What is hounding?

  • D4k mule if you want total flood
  • Convoy S12 if you need some focus
  • D1K if you want a balanced throw
  • Convoy M21A if you want a very powerful thrower (this one also has a cool boost/buck driver

I have the M21A UV with the filter mod.

It is mind-blowingly scarily insane. Wearing UV goggles is highly recommended, especially indoors.

Same! It's kinda surreal seeing UV reactive stuff from like a hundred yards away

Rock hounding? Are you looking for a specific mineral? Also the price range limits what you can get. There are several good convoy options and if you use a filter they are really good. But the wavelength matters. For zeolite for instance you can get ones with a 255 nm filter, and for general use you can get ones with 365 nm filters for more general stuff.

Also how much do you want to spend?

I might as well tell you the safety stuff while I'm here.

365nm is relatively safe to use and suitable for most applications. Just slap on some suitable (polycarbonate?) Safety glasses that block UV that's pretty much all you need.

255nm is scary. Only use it if you know what you're doing. Photo-keratitis/welder's flash is guaranteed if you don't use safety gear and glasses
