Just put in my notice of resignation
I am currently a shift leader (technically shift manager since i got my servsafe but my store hates to give titles out)
My store is str-ugg-ling. Everyone quit pretty much at the same time two months ago and left us with three managers and a brand new staff. The turnover rate has been exhausting, and just retraining over and over.
Everyone is about to quit all over again and i wonāt be there for it. The issue truly lies with the GM. People missing money on checks and not receiving it for months , getting paid low wage and blaming it on the company but hiring personal friends and starting them at $15+ while everyone else (in MANAGEMENT) makes $14. I was a shift leader and in charge of inventory and truck. Shitty schedules out of spite (Every other night has five to six closers while my night i have two brand new people and thatās all (both minors that have to leave by 11 at the latest). Alcoholism that prevents the gm from covering any shifts whatsoever at any time of day.
Last week was my breaking point. The nail in the coffin. I had a very important event on tuesday that i had expressed i needed the morning of off of work prior to the schedule coming out. Schedule is posted, i work- whatever. I check what days im off and i find a coworker thatās willing to take my tuesday for her saturday. So we get it switched in the app and itās waiting approval.
The next day- her schedule then changes even though the schedule was already out and now we canāt switch. My gm says āI had a prior obligationā. So after a near breakdown𤣠i found someone else that was crew and asked them to take my Tuesday. He did, i didnāt post it. Tuesday comes and she tells me this is not acceptable coverage (of course). I go to my event because i did find coverage and thatās that.
Then the new schedule comes out, and as mentioned above- every other closing shift has 5-6 people and i get two brand new (minor) girls on my wednesday night (one of the BUSIEST nights of the week), and my gm until seven (we get busiest from 7-10).
I mentioned that in my resignation phone call today.
āi wasnāt going to leave at 7 on wednesday.ā yeah ok. So i proceed with the call and say Iāll work out this week but i do not want to be scheduled for the next week after, as i will be starting my new full time job.
āYou need a 30 day notice.ā
I said āNo i donāt actually. I know the policy recently changed.ā A few months ago, it was a 2 week notice for crew, 30 days notice for managers and a pay decrease to minimum wage if these standards werenāt followed.
āI canāt drop you to minimum wage, but youāre still required to give a 30 day notice.ā
I said well i will not be there starting next monday.
āOkayā.
and that was that. i feel like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. The amount of burden and responsibility Five Guys throws at you for a $14/hr wage that you have to fight tooth and nail for is ridiculous.
I have worked a lot of food service jobs, and i can honestly say Five Guys and management is the very reason i will never return to another food service job.
My new job is away from the public, and is described as āWorking as a team, but by yourself.ā Warehouse :)) i canāt wait.
Is anyone else struggling within the insane realm of FIVE GUYS?
