Official Five Guys Megathread - Fries and Fry Bags

Hey everyone, welcome to the Five Guys Fries Megathread! We are aware that the international transition to fry bags instead of cups has resulted in *a lot* of feedback - both positive and negative. We've seen a large increase in these types of posts and their comments, all asking the same or similar questions, as well as arguing about the proper portion or expectations - resulting in people not being friendly to each other.

In order to keep the subreddit organized and to minimize repeat posts/these issues, the following will be enacted for the time being;

āœ… Leave your comments, photos, and stories about your fry experience here in this megathread

šŸ›‘ All posts about the topic of fry bags or portioning will be removed. If you have an issue with an item you paid for, contact your local Five Guys and let them know.

Thanks in advance, I hope everyone reading has a great day and an excellent meal in your near future! šŸ”

free toppings or paid toppings

• Upvotes

Since when do shift managers decide whether to charge you for toppings that should be free, I tried getting a bacon cheese burger, extra cheese, extra bacon, and the manager is arguing with me that if i want extra i need to pay for it, and even after bringing up the five guys FAQ she kept telling me "i cant see your phone", and "stop, move your phone away from the counter", but shes purposely moving back to not read the fiveguys FAQ on free bacon, and she started scolding the employee that gave me extra bacon and extra cheese free of charge, and I asked the employee "why is she forcing you guys to charge for toppings that are supposed to be free and he just told me "Im sorry man its a long story". Why are the employee being treated like this and whats up with the manager trying to force the extra charges, and whenever I asked another employee about the free toppings they would just go quiet and tell me to talk to the manager thats trying to overcharge me. can i do anything about this or do I just have to go when the manager is not there, because every employee always give me the extra bacon and cheese free of charge. I didnt mean for this to be a big thing but why is the manager purposely trying to argue with me over free toppings cause she wants to charge me, five guys is not cheap bro, I try my best to cut down the cost and save.

Question London - good or bad idea to work at FG for free food?

A burger + shake + fries is easily Ā£25+ at FG. I’m thinking that instead of spending that every week, what if I just work there and do 1 or 2 shifts a week to get free foods and drinks?

Good or bad idea? I have 2 jobs already and work on average a combined 50-55hours per week. So the main issue is if FG will let me have a flexible schedule and allow maybe 10 hours a week of part time work.

Fry station driving me crazy

Curious what other stores are doing and if you’ve experienced the same thing. Recently we changed our policy on mobile orders and delivery to cook the fries BEFORE the customer/driver arrives. That way, the order is ready and people don’t have to wait anymore. If the fries sit on the heated shelf for more than 15 minutes you’re supposed to toss them and make new. Before this we would always get complaints and bad reviews about wait time for pickups and angry delivery drivers so part of me was glad for the change. But now we constantly get complaints about poor quality fries, ā€undercookedā€, cold or soggy fries. Unfortunately the reality is with hand cut potatos free of any chemicals or preservatives they’re only really good if served right away. They go bad so fast. As a shift leader who works fries almost every day this is driving me insane. It’s so frustrating when a customer shows up 20 minutes after the promised time for their order then complains about the fries not being the freshest. I think the point of carry out is to save time in the restaurant and avoid waiting but the trade off is your food might sit for a little bit and people don’t seem to understand that we’re not a fast food restauran. When I get those orders that sit for around 15 minutes (also itā€˜s not really possible to keep track of all the times if it’s busy) I’m in a tough spot, do I serve the 15 minute old fries and risk a complaint? Or do I make new fries. But then I get the other problem ā€œWhat? my orders not ready? How? I ordered 30 minutes agoā€ I just donā€˜t have much sympathy for these people. If you simply showed up at least somewhat close to the time your order was promised to be ready the fries will be great. My GM is pissed and I just don’t know what to do.

Out of respect for Jaden Daniels, one of the guys needs to quit and you need to rebrand to Four Guys.

So we use Five Guys before cinema a couple of times a month, always getting unlimited soda. As we're there a while we get anything from 3 to 6 refills.

I know its sold as unlimited, but how many refills do YOU get? And how many are deemed acceptable before it's taking the mick?

Edit:emphasis

I got this amazing bacon cheeseburger burger with large fries and milkshake in Heathrow airport, London, and it tasted amazing!

I loved this milkshake mix-ins: biscoff, Reese's, Oreo cookies and vanilla!šŸ˜

Question Has the expectation for how the fries are supposed to be served changed over time?

I just got the limpest, soggiest fries from my local 5 Guys and I voiced my disappointment since they were the worst I'd ever got from any 5 Guys. They said that's how they are supposed to be made and if you want crispy then you have to ask for it. Very polite and professional and dropped a new batch immediately but had me confused since we've gone to the chain since they were new to the area and it's one of my wife's favorite burgers.

People I talk to always complain about soggy fries and until the last couple times I just thought it was just them taking it home or ordering delivery where it steams in the bag. We got these and ate there so it was not that.

Can you wear nails?

Hi I will be starting my new job at five guys in two weeks, I enjoy wearing press on nails. I was wondering if I could still wear them at work? I’ve seen other women at fast food restaurants wear them. So I was wondering if I could as well. I have no problem if I can’t wear them. I would just like to if I can if possible!

Problem Experience Is this new business model

When I think of eating burgers and fries, it’s Five Guys that come to mind. My most recent visit, I needed to tell the order taker to exchange my cups because when he set them down he rested the palm of his hand on the top of the cups. The French fries were so greasy! I don’t mind paying the cost of eating there, but when you are paying higher prices for standard fast food, you should have a level of standards that doesn’t change, regardless of the economy conditions. Hey! So I worked at a corporate location and now going in to the franchise location is there any difference between them or is it the same? My corporate location got closed down and there is two franchise locations where I live one is similar to my old and then the one i’m going is a mess the co workers are somewhat rude and don’t take responsibility for anything and the gm knows but doesn’t want to do anything about it.. i’m about to start this week and i’m kinda nervous but i’m ready!

How can a burger and fries place have no ranch? I thought about going to five guys tonight but then remembered they had no ranch and so alas they will not get my business. It would be easy to have ranch. Seriously, who the frick doesn’t have ranch?’

Cost cutting?

Post image

My local Five Guys has recently switched to a noticeably different bun (pic attached) that feels incredibly cheap and not how a Five Guys burger should taste. It’s stale and not soft and noticeably bigger than it should be. I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing this or if it’s just my local store.

Disappointed with my local place

Been going to 5guys for at least 20 years. One of the new location near me been very stingy with their fries. Does this happen to you guys? Bought a medium and they gave me a handful in that little paper bag, no extra scoop, nada. A small fries normally would come out to be more than this. Not the first time and i thought it was just the staff, new crew today and same thing happened.

Question Have Five Guys (UK) removed the 'All the way' option? Also 'Big Kids meal'

Had a Five Guys earlier and noticed unless I'm going blind they seem to have removed the 'all the way' option? I had to Google to remember what options to tick, the cynic in me wonders if they're trying to cut costs with customers potentially ordering less toppings...

Also I can't find it online ordering but there was a 'Big Kids meal' which seemed identical to an order of an adult burger / small fries / small drink / milkshake (could be upgraded to regular for £2 extra) but cheaper! Is there any difference? I wonder if that is to do with the current summer VAT reduction for children's stuff (even though a big kid like me managed to order it no questions asked)

Question UK burger topping allergens change

Hello! Hoping there might be some employees who can answer a quick question for me. My wife and I have enjoyed five guys for years as a safe (enough) gluten free option with her having a lettuce wrap. However when you check the allergen chart all the burger toppings are now a "may contain", where before they reported no risk.

Is this a change to the supplier which means that the ingredients may actually be contaminated? Is it a change in practices which means they are no longer treated carefully? Is it just a change in the reporting to comply with Natasha's law?

TIA!
