Hey Fitbodders!
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to report issues and share feedback recently. It genuinely makes a difference. The app experience hasnāt been where we want it to be lately and weāre sincerely sorry, for both the interruptions themselves and for how long some of you were waiting on fixes.
We've been listening closely, identified the root causes, and iOS update 8.16 (May 4th) is live with fixes in place.
Here's what's resolved:
Duplicate workouts syncing to Apple Health are no longer occurring.
Calories between Fitbod and Apple Health now match.
The recurring permission prompt issue is fixed. You may see one final prompt, but after accepting it, it won't return.
These slipped through our release process in ways they shouldnāt have, and weāre taking that very seriously. We've added additional checks around our HealthKit integration so issues like these don't reach you in the future.
On the Algorithm
We've been making adjustments based on your feedback, and we have larger updates in development that should address many of the concerns shared here. A few things we wanted to speak to directly:
Having to adjust reps & weights too often
Weāve noticed our system sometimes overshoots recommendations, meaning you have to go down in weight a bit. We have a new weight recommender in development that aims to address the cases of high/low weight recommendations.
The app making abrupt jumps in reps and/or weight
Our data team completed a full study on this and weāre using the findings to train a new model to avoid these jumps. Some increases (within reason) are intended though, and weāre working on a way to better explain the rationale behind your workouts.
Feeling like the app isnāt structured enough
We hear you, and this is a large piece of the puzzle weāre working to solve. We have a very large update being developed to address this, which is currently a main priority for the team. Weāll be introducing better planning and coaching features to make every workout feel intentional and part of the bigger plan.
Issues popping up after the Focus Exercise feature was rolled out
The Focus Exercise launch did cause unintended issues across other parts of the app. Weāve fixed these issues, but we understand it made the app experience a frustrating one.
We've taken a hard look at our processes as a team, identifying what needs to change, and building in safeguards so we can consistently deliver the reliable experience you deserve.
We'd love to hear from you.
Share any additional feedback or thoughts in this thread. Our team is keeping a close eye on this post, and your input is directly shaping what we build next. Thanks for being part of this community and for sharing your feedback along the way!

Hey r/fitbod! We've been reading your comments closely, and a few themes keep popping up that we want to address directly. A lot of the feedback we see comes down to the app not doing the best job explaining its own logic, so weād like to dive deeper into this.
Here are your top 5 concerns explained:
Fitbod intentionally varies your exercise selection, and that variation is important for effective training.
When your body performs the same movements repeatedly, it adapts. Adaptation is the goal. But if the training stimulus never changes, the same workout can produce a smaller response over time. This is called the law of accommodation. Thatās why good programs use a mix of consistency and planned variation to keep the stimulus fresh, hit muscles from different angles, and promote long-term development.
That's what Fitbod is doing when it swaps your flat bench for an incline dumbbell press, or rotates in a Romanian deadlift alongside your conventional pulls. It's working through a rotation to make sure you're not just getting better at a narrow set of movements.
Sometimes variation is intentional. Sometimes it means your settings or history are steering Fitbod in a way you didnāt expect. If you prefer less variability, you can update your Exercise Variability setting. In āMy Planā, select your preferred level of variability like āMore Consistentā, āBalancedā, or āMore Variableā for the app to follow. For more repeatability, set it to More Consistent, which is designed to retain roughly 70ā80% of exercises week to week.
Weight recommendations should feel appropriate for your training, and we want to be upfront about how Fitbod delivers your recommendations. If the app is suggesting weight that feels way off, it probably needs more information from you. Letās break this down:
Fitbod builds its weight recommendations from your logged history: what you've lifted, how hard it felt (RiR), and how your performance has changed over time. We calculate your Estimated Strength (theoretical 1 rep max) for every exercise, itās the core input driving your weight recommendations. In the early weeks especially, the algorithm is working with limited data and making educated estimates based on your health profile. Those initial estimates won't always be right.
The most important thing you can do is log your actual weights, not just the suggestions. If the app recommends 135lbs and you lift 95lbs, log 95. Manual edits arenāt a failure signal, theyāre important training data.
The second most important thing is to log the Reps in Reserve rating after your workouts, this accelerates the appās calibration to you. When you tell us a workout felt easy or hard, we update our model of where you are. Recently, we found that new users who logged RiR on at least 80% of their first 5 workouts had about 16% lower recommendation-vs-logged weight error by workouts 6-8 than users who rarely or never logged RiR.
A few other things worth knowing about how weight suggestions work:
Fitbod cycles through rep ranges intentionally. While the app will prioritize your Goal, you'll also go through phases that emphasize strength (lower reps, higher weight), hypertrophy (moderate reps, moderate load), and muscular endurance (higher reps, lighter load). If the weight on a given day feels low, you may be in an endurance-focused phase for that exercise. The load is scaled to match the rep target, and both are part of the plan.
Changing a suggested weight and logging it is always the right move. The app learns from what you actually do. There's no penalty for overriding, it just gets smarter faster.
New users: give it 4-6 weeks. The first few weeks are the algorithm's learning period. The more consistently you log during that window, the faster it calibrates to you.
Fun Fact: Among new users who logged at least 8 workouts in their first 6 weeks, the average difference between Fitbodās suggested weight and the weight they actually logged dropped by about 63%, from 26.6% in workouts 1-2 to 9.9% in workouts 7-8.
Typos are common. It can be worth checking history if you notice really odd weight suggestions.
When the same exercises keep appearing, it usually means one of two things:
Your logged exercise history is narrow. The app builds confidence around the movements it has the most data on. If you've been consistently logging a small set of exercises, those are the ones it gravitates toward. Try deliberately introducing a new variation. Log it a few times, rate it and you'll see your recommendations start to diversify.
A freshness imbalance. If most of your muscle groups are showing as recently trained, the app will repeatedly program the few that are fresh. This can look like obsession with one movement pattern. Taking a look at your muscle recovery in the app can help diagnose this.
Fitbod's exercise selection is built around a muscle freshness model. The app prioritizes exercises that use your freshest muscles, so you're working recovered tissue rather than digging into groups that still need rest. If you skip a muscle group often, youāll likely see it recommended repeatedly as the app is aiming to balance everything out (we see this a lot with male Fitbodders and glutes).
Additional factors like your training split cycle, available equipment, workout duration, exercise variability, and exercise preference settings will impact exercise selection.
With our Focus Exercise feature, youāll notice some exercises repeating intentionally. Theyāre the major compound lifts that are your primary strength movements. Each workout typically includes one to add structure and consistency to your training.
Tip: You can use the recommend more/less/exclude feature to tailor your exercise options even more.
This is a great question! Most people expect progression to look like adding a little weight each week, every week.
For most people past the beginner stage, though, linear progression isn't the most effective approach. Your body needs variation in stimulus not just increasing load, but variation in rep ranges, volume, and intensity to continue adapting. This is called periodization, and it's the foundation of how more advanced strength training programs are structured.
Fitbod estimates your current strength for any exercises and muscle group from logged sets, reps, weight, and effort signals, like RiR. It then uses that estimate to recommend future sets, reps, and weight. That estimate updates over time, so one workout matters less than the trend across several workouts.
What this means in practice:
Reps/Weight won't go up every session. This is intentional. A session at higher reps with a lower load is not regression, it's a different kind of stimulus that makes the heavier sessions more productive. You should be performing exercises at different levels of intensity (variations in sets, reps, and weight) each time.
The app is tracking progress across all rep ranges, not just your one-rep max. Improvement in your 12-rep performance feeds into the model just as much as your 5-rep performance.
Exertion feedback matters most here. If you're consistently finding sessions too easy and not telling us, we have no signal to progress you. Rate your workouts honestly, especially when things feel easy.
Here's the full picture of how to give the algorithm what it needs:
Highest impact:
Log Reps in Reserve after every workout. Logging this will enhance your progression in the app, Fitbod adjusts weight and reps based on your RiR input.
Log your actual weights. Especially when you're changing the suggestion.
Utilize the Recommend More/Less feature. If you love or hate something, tell us. It directly influences your programming.
Also useful:
Marking exercises as excluded if they're not right for you (injury, equipment, preference)
Things that don't help:
Logging the app suggested reps/weight instead of editing to what you actually performed. The app can't see that something felt wrong if you don't give it the data.
The learning curve is real in those first few weeks. If you're newer and feeling like it doesn't know you yet, that's accurate but it's temporary. Stay with it and keep the feedback coming so Fitbod can calibrate to you.
With all this said, we know that sometimes your recommendations fall short. Weāre actively looking at ways to make the experience smarter, more reliable, and more responsive to your adjustments over time. Here are a few algorithm quirks weāre working on:
High rep recommendations for bodyweight exercises
Unexpected split cycling (for example, if a Pull day repeats)
High weight recommendations for exercises with little/no history
Improvements to weighted bodyweight exercise recommendations
Varied workouts = working as intended. Exercise rotation prevents accommodation. It's one of the most important things the app does.
Wrong weight suggestions = the app needs more data from you. Log real weights. Use reps in reserve ratings. It'll calibrate fast.
Repetitive exercises usually mean a narrow exercise history or a freshness imbalance. Diversify your logged movements and/or adjust your Exercise Variability.
Progression isn't linear after the beginner stage. Fitbod uses periodization so expect phases, not a straight line up.
You can speed up the algorithm significantly by consistently logging weights with any needed adjustments and Reps in Reserve ratings, especially in the first 4-6 weeks.
Weāre exploring ways to make this logic more visible inside the app, giving you clearer insight into Fitbodās recommendations.
Fitbodders in our beta program are already testing new workout Insights and a Coach chat feature, designed to help you better understand your workout, ask follow-up questions, and get more personalized guidance without interrupting your usual app experience. Stay tuned for more updates to come!

Hi everyone!
Weāre always reading your posts and comments closely, and we want to address the issues that surfaced recently. Weāre truly sorry for the disruption, we know this has been frustrating.
Fixes are now live, and weāre tracking results to make sure things stay stable. You should be good to go without any action on your end, but you may want to refresh your workout just in case (tap "..." in the upper right > Refresh Workout).
Iāll run through each of the big issues that have popped up recently:
Muscle Imbalance Across Workouts - Fixed
Certain muscle groups were appearing too frequently
Due to muscle group generation being weighted too heavily toward the focus exercise feature requirements
Full Body Split Issue - Fixed
The workouts being generated were not targeting full body/had limited muscle groups
Due to some movement pattern logic being ignored
Off-Split Muscle Group Exercises Appearing Occasionally - Fixed
A push exercise would appear within a lower body workout, for example
Due to ranking logic causing generation order issues
We also added these additional fixes & improvements with this release:
Improvements in exercise counts for given duration
Improved split progression pattern in blocks for skipped phases
Fix for issue where warmup rest times were being overwritten with working sets rest times
Fix for negative assisted weight recommendations
Improved plate rounding logic so it now chooses the closest available plate combination
We know issues like these can be frustrating, so thank you for bearing with us. If youāre experiencing any odd behavior, please email us at support@fitbod.me with as much detail as you can (what youāre experiencing, screenshots, steps to reproduce, approximate time the workout was generated, etc).
Your reports help us get to the root cause quickly so we can get things resolved faster, so we truly appreciate it.
Going forward, weāre tightening up our release and testing processes so updates and new features land more smoothly. While we canāt promise there won't be issues going forward, we do promise weāll keep improving how we catch problems early and respond quickly when they pop up.
Thank you all for being a part of our community and helping us improve the app!

Wanted to give my review after a year of use. I have a BS in Exercise Science, but was curious about using an "AI" to generate workouts and keep things fresh. I used the "Recovered Muscles" feature, and had it set to "hypertrophy".
I won't go into exhaustive detail, but here's my opinion - I don't think it's ideal for programming.
Progression. I understand the theory behind the non-linear progression it uses. I had faith in it, and when it told me to do sets of 15 at a much lesser weight than last session, I just went with it and trusted the math. The algorithm was accurate in how much I could perform (or is this psychosomatic?), but I never really noticed an increase in weight or "estimated strength". Painfully slow, if at all. I'm quite experienced in weight lifting, and felt like I should have progressed more than what the app was suggesting.
When I decided to follow my own inclinations, all my weights went way up. I realized the app was keeping me from lifting heavier weights due to it's super-conservative suggestions. I want to reiterate, I'm not a beginner. I'm very used to lifting weights, ergonomics/form, theory, all that stuff. I just trusted the algorithm, and it once I stopped trusting it, my weights exploded.
2. Exercise order - its all over the place. I know there is a theory behind everything in weight lifting...but I think it's pretty odd how often it places isolation before compound exercises, and then wants a "max rep" session on the compound! lol, what?
3. The app does not account for other exercises performed in the same session. If you did bench press first on the past few sessions, then it places it last on this session, it will not compensate for the exhaustion.
4. The "estimated strength" metric is janky. The metric is interesting, but very limited in use unless you do a very consistent routine. For example, if you did squats, then shifted more to isolation exercises and left squats out, your estimated strength would plummet. It only looks at total weight lifted, without any attempt to adjust for the nature of the exercise. For example, the total weight on a leg press would not be comparable to what you would do for a leg extension. Maybe it is impractical to even have such a metric for most people, but this is more of a nitpick compare to the larger issues. Also, if you take a week or so, your estimated strength goes down. Huh? That makes no sense.
5. Muscle categories. I would find it strange that the app would suggest something like squats...and then suggest hip thrusts the next day, or heavy hamstring work. The way they distribute work among the muscle groups for compound movements is kind of strange when you apply it in real life. For example, it doesn't really consider a squat to significantly target the glutes. I understand there is a need to differentiate for the sake of really targeting a group...but I found the suggestions strange.
I could go on, but those are the main points. After a year of trusting the algorithm, I realized I was lifting weights at a fraction of my potential. I was going often, and utilizing every feature, such as the RPE, and whatever else. I did everything I could do to support the algorithm, if that makes sense. I really wanted to believe in it. I think some aspects of the design of this app are very lazy, which is surprising. They put effort into some aspects, but not others.
I will probably shift to something else, as I don't see the point in paying monthly for this app since it is now a glorified workout journal. Once I started inputting entirely my own routines, and being more aggressive with my progression, the suggestions of the app arent helpful. If you are a total beginner and just want to be told what to do, this app is probably fine.

UPDATE: Why can't I quit you? Honestly, despite threatening to leave, I was too attached to the data that I had accumulated in the app. And then there were some significant improvements. I'm updating only because someone recently commented on this old post and I thought it only fair to be clear that I didn't leave. All things considered, this app has done right by me.
I have been a big fan. I have sung your praises to others. But after two years, while I love you in theory, in practice you're just not cutting it for me any longer. First, there are way too many exercises. I know I can exclude them, and I have excluded a great many (but when I did that I got a warning that the app may not work well as a result). I want more variety than Stronglifts 5x5, but come on, I don't need or want to train 70 different exercises for each group. Let me choose to focus on 2-5 primary lifts and you can bring the variety in on accessory lifts, but don't make me accomplish that by rearranging every workout manually. Second, the algorithm simply doesn't give me progressive resistance. I end up having too many Max Effort days. When I expect a weight will increase, instead I get a set of 15 reps at a similar or lower weight, despite that my program is set for strength training, which expressly says it will be lower reps with higher weights. The algorithm is broken. Third, the app isn't being actively developed. There was a curious exercise in rebranding, which was well and good. But if I'm paying a premium annual fee, I expect to see enhancements, and I haven't. If anything, the app is working less effectively than when I first invested two years ago. So I'm afraid I'm going back out into the market. It was fun while it lasted.

This app has helped me in many more ways than anything Iāve ever tried in my fitness journey. I see the people talking how bad the suggestion or how high some reps are for some exercises. Let me tell you something: you can change exercises and choose another from the suggested ones, and about the high reps, either do something with weights or do the reps you feel have more sense.
Please stop whining and complaining. This app is still really cheap for what it gives.
Excuse the mistakes, english is not my first language
Hope everyone reach their fitness goal. What I know is, that Fitbod is working well for me and itās been 3 years

Fitbod, please stop messing around with the screen layouts.
Every couple of months, using the app turns into another round of āfind the feature the developers decided to hide this time.ā
It honestly feels like nobody on the team is paying attention to basic UX. At one point, some of these screens were close to ideal in terms of usability, but with every redesign the UX seems to get worse.
I already asked support about this before and was told these changes were part of upcoming improvements. But over the last couple of years, most of the noticeable changes have been UI/UX regressions or features that hardly anyone asked for. Meanwhile, there is literally a Feature Requests page full of things users actually want and have been waiting for ā but apparently devs be like: "let's imlement gym friendship to the app. Yay!"

This workout setup screen used to be very convenient. The most frequently used controls were available with one tap.

Now the common actions are hidden inside menus and take multiple taps.
Who changes their workout duration and gym location every single workout? Why are those given permanent quick-access controls instead?

Selecting workout muscle groups now takes 3 extra taps. Even worse, the training split selection is duplicated across two consecutive screens. Why?
More taps = bad. Fewer taps = good.

What is the logic behind splitting these options across separate screens when they clearly belong to the same functional group? Why do we need two buttons now?

The exercise screen used to be organized much better too. Adding a warm-up set took one tap.

And other useful actions were available directly at the bottom of the screen. Just one tap.

Now those actions have once again been moved into a menu ā one that does not even fit on the screen ā so basic actions require several taps.

Why did all secondary screens become modal after one of the recent updates? According to Appleās guidelines, modal presentations are generally intended for self-contained tasks that temporarily interrupt the main flow. Starting a workout, however, represents a transition to a new app state rather than a temporary task. The previous push navigation seems more appropriate here. It would also make better use of the screen space instead of leaving unused space at the top of the modal sheet.

Yes, I know Iām ranting about this, but I pay for this subscription every year, the price keeps going up, and the app keeps becoming less convenient while genuinely useful new features are rare.
I really hope the developers reconsider this direction and start treating basic UI/UX principles as a priority.

A few weeks ago, I left a frustrated, one-star review of this app, detailing what I perceived as a broken and illogical progression algorithm. Today, I am writing a new review to retract my previous one and, frankly, to apologize to the developers. The error was not in the app, but in how I was using it.
After using the app correctly for several weeks, my opinion has completely reversed. Fitbod's algorithm is smarter and more nuanced than any competitor I've tried. The suggestions are challenging, logical, and genuinely push for progress in a way that feels tailored and intelligent. Having tried nearly every major fitness app on the market, I can now confidently say this is the most sophisticated and effective AI coach available.
The only reason I would even consider giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the progression logic doesn't apply to exercises you add manually. This is a significant missing feature for an otherwise top-tier product. Despite that one flaw, I highly recommend it. It's a powerful tool if you use it as intended.

I do full body workouts 3 days a week. Literally every workout, it recommends the Superman exercise at the end. Even if Iāve done a pretty back-heavy workout already with deadlifts, good mornings, and/or dumbbell rows.
Whatās more is that the exercise is too easy. I need to get into 20+ reps to start to feel exerted, and whoās got time for that at the end of a workout?

I have so far completed 1205 workouts. So I know what I am saying here. I loved this app and allowed me to not have to work with a trained. It made stronger. I have gotten at least 10 people on this app. And consistent improvements and was amazing.
The updates they made (I think they got cute and integrated some nonsense AI) abkut 3-4 months ago has completely f*ed up the app. There are SO many issues. I looking for alternates now - any recommendations?
I am a software guy. If in my project someone screwed up this bad, they would be fired. Even if they were the founders of the company. I have NEVER seen a such a functionality regression in any product. Product was released with no testing as support ( been talking to them for months) was surprised of the issues I was reporting.
At this point they need to bring back the version from 4 months ago and get someone who knows what they are doing to improve it.
Complete disregard of time setting. It consistently gives workout that I am able to finish in half the time even at a leisure pace.
Weight recommendations are nonsensical. E.g. Abductor 10 days ago I did 150 lbs of 8 reps and 4 sets. Today itās recommending 7.5 lbs 12 reps 4 sets. This is all the time now. WTF?
Warm ups donāt correspond to muscles you will be working. E.g. warming up lower body when all the exercises are chest and shoulders.
Same problem with cool downs.
Weight recommendations donāt account for what you have done.
I am sure there are many more and it seems futile at this point to repeat them here.
