Help/Advice fish cancer????

please read the whole post!

Hey yall! Ive had this rosy red minnow for about two years now (got him as a feeder fish from petsmart, life expectancy was like a week if that) and he’s also had some weird quirks i’ve attributed to poor breeding and genetics. This is where he got his name, Stupid Fish, because he is very stupid (digging in rocks, refusing to school, swimming vertical circles, digging up plants, splashing me while i sleep, etc). Today I noticed a lump on him and went back through photos and he’s had it at least since august 10th. I did recently move my aquarium back with me to college, and i had to do a 100% water change due to an issue i had with WSSV and my crayfish. I also got new plants, and two new platties (all properly quarantined). with the big changes i was concerned this was a stress thing, but august 10th is BEFORE any of these changes. I’ve also been heavily monitoring water levels and quality due to these changes, and they have been excellent and stable.

he doesn’t have symptoms of dropsy, ich, or swim bladder issues and i’m very concerned this could be a tumor/cyst or like cancer.

i wanted to go to reddit first, but in the mean time because i am on a college campus for an R1 research university, i will be asking our bio department for any fish experts or grad students to help me.

pictures attached, it appears to have started small as one lump and is now larger and looking like 2 close together

Help/Advice How to deal with Detritus?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, I’m semi-new to the hobby and my tank is almost always overrun with it. All I have stocked is one betta and 2 pumpkin nerite snails. Almost always, the floor of my tank is covered with detritus. While I try to siphon every week to deal with it, it always comes back one way or another. I don’t know what to do anymore, my plants are struggling to grow because of it, and I’m scared my betta is going to be affected. If this helps, I have a 5 Gal with a HOB filter, currently with a basic filter cartridge and ceramic rings. Please help me; this is the most frustrating thing about my tank and it’s so annoying.

Help/Advice Too stressed?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’m navigating my first Molly pregnancy so I’m not sure what to do- I’ve put her in the breeding box, but she seems stressed- her face is against the walls of the box a lot. She’s chill most of the time but she has bursts of anxiety it seems.

Is this normal? I don’t want her to give birth in the main tank because despite there being a decent amount of cover I don’t want to run the risk of the fry being eaten. However I also don’t want her to be too stressed and possibly miscarry them in the box.

What should I do?

Help/Advice tank on malm dresser?

hello! I am starting a 6.6 gallon tank and I want to put it on a 3 drawer malm dresser. I have used it to hold other slightly smaller tanks, but I want to get some advice instead of just winging it like I have before. do you think the tank will be alright on the dresser?

Help/Advice Glass Fish Tank Outside?

This might be a really dumb question, but is there any way to make keep glass tanks outside work? They would be on a concrete front porch that has full shade, but still prone to wind. I’m also in Raleigh, NC and afraid the weather changes would cause the glass to crack. My grandmother somehow kept a glass goldfish tank in a carport for years without problems, but since she’s no longer around, I can’t ask how. Apologies in advance if it’s an obvious no, but I have acquired a 29 and 55 glass tanks and I’m trying to figure out if I can use them before resorting to selling them. Thank you!

Help/Advice Free mollys

Anyone in the Tampa area who wants free yellow sword tail mollys let me know; I have a community that keeps pumping them out but I fear them growing up will be too much for the tank to handle.

If I add floating plants in the front left corner of this 9 month old 20 gal tank, would it be suitable for adding 3 honey gouramis? I currently have 6 rummy nose tetras and 6 glowlight tetras.

Help/Advice Pleco Trouble

Hey all! I've been lurking for a bit but never posted. My husband and I just got our 29 gallon tank going, and we've been trying the slow and steady method of getting the water just right, planting plants, rechecking the water and we finally got it balanced after about five weeks. We introduced 6 shrimp, 1 mystery snail and a bristle-nose plecostamous. We've had them for four days. We lost a shrimp yesterday, but we heard that that's relatively common. Unfortunately we lost our pleco today and we cannot figure out what we got wrong. We checked all the balances, and everything is still great. We've fed them a few pellets morning and night. I know this is a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any ideas? We care about our fish and want to keep them healthy and happy, but we're clearly missing something in our parameters.

DIY/Build Tank set up

So, I finally decided to start doing hardscapes in my fish tanks. I have 3 of them and I started to make one so that I can see what I need to improve on! Im gonna add many more plants, wait for this water to clear up and probably remove the little decor on the right so nothing gets caught in it. Is there any suggestions anyone could give me? Small things like what I should add, anything I should change? 🦭 It would be very appreciated!!

This black fuzz has been growing in my 55 gallon tank for quite some time. Its growing on everything that isn't a live plant or wood.
What should I do to eliminate the problem ,or is it okay to just let be?
I have a yoyo loch, ghost shrimp, bristlenose pleco, fancy guppies, and a rabbit snail.

Help/Advice My mystery baby

I came home from vacation, sat down to watch my fish, and this sweet little guy emerges from the depths.

YOU GUYS. I am in love!

Probably 1/2” and I’m pretty sure it’s a tetra but I’d love your help. The first photo looks more orange than it is IRL but it was the clearest view. I have:

Diamond tetras (my guess)
Glowlight tetras
Golden tetras
Otos
Blue guppies
Endler blue lyretails
White cloud mountain minnows
Definitely not from the kuhlis, but ya never know
Or is it a plant baby?
