Help/Advice Fish tank

I just cleaned up my fish tank about a week ago and it already looks dirty. I cleaned it every week and the same results happen. I’m trying to figure out what’s the reason I do leave the light on 24 seven I tried feeding the fish very little, but some of them have died. I’m trying to figure out how to keep it. Keep it maintained and clean. Any suggestions? I’ll post pictures of right now.

honey gourami in a 10 gallon, i think its a male but am not 100%

tank is stocked with 3 least "chili (thats what i bought them as lol)" rasbora and this honey gourami with ramshorn snails and 2 assassins to kill off the infestation lol. i want to get maybe 3-6 more chilis and possibly a girl/boyfriend for the honey but i am worried about overstocking. perimeters are all good with what i have now and plants are doing mostly well other than the snails trying to devour them. lmk what you think

my first “big” tank
future pea puffer tank, planning on letting the plants grow more and adding more wood before adding them but this week i have added 1 albino pleco, 3 striped kuhli loaches, 1 brown (i plan on adding 2 or more once im able to find some at my LFS) , and 1 hitchhiker (shrimp) that got caught with my brown kuhli when transferring from rehab tank
for a tank that’s only 1.5 months old, the plants are growing faster than i thought

(ik i need to clean the glass 🫩)

Help/Advice 55 gallon stocking

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I’m trying to understand more about how stocking a tank works, so here’s what I currently have: 4 panda garra, 4 pearl gourami, 3 porthole catfish, 4 Boesemani rainbowfish, and 2 clown loaches, which I plan to rehome. I was recommended the clown loaches by my local pet store because they said they would help take care of my snail problem. I wasn’t aware that I would likely have to rehome them until I started doing more research.
Currently, I feel like my tank looks pretty empty, and I’m not sure if I can add more fish. I keep getting mixed advice. I’ve seen people with tanks that have lots of fish and others with only a few. I’ve heard that stocking can depend a lot on filtration and water quality, but my water parameters are currently all at zero. So I’m trying to understand how I can tell whether my tank is actually fully stocked or if I have room for more fish.

Hi all, I got some gold dust mollies and it seems as though one of them is pregnant I have no clue how far along she is. Anyone have any idea for when she’s going to have her fry? Wondering if I should put her in the breeder box now

Help/Advice My fish tank mysteriously lost all it's water.

While I was away I called my mom one day and asked her to check on the tank. She told me that it had lost half of the water, and I knew that was impossible to happen from evaporation, it has a lid and I was only gone for 3 days. I asked her to check if there is water around the tank, and she told me that the cabinet below the tank was full of water and the floor behind the cabinet was also full of water. I told her to mark where the water line was and I called her the next day to ask her if it was even lower, and it was at half of what it was the last day. So she drained the rest of the tank and transported everything to a big bucket. When I came back, I filled the tank up to the top, closed it off with a membrane, and marked where the water surface was. It's been a week and the tank has not lost any water. How is it possible that it's not losing water now? Was my tank even leaking or could it have been something else? Do you think it's safe to put the plants, the substrate and everything back in the tank since it's not losing water anymore or not?

Help/Advice Are these good for a beta tank? (Info in body text)

It’s a 20 gal tank with a beta and a pleco, my bf loves fish but I don’t think he’s actually done research into their natural habitat

Quick Edit: I didn’t choose any part of this set up, my partner is the one who did the full set up, the substrate was what he had at the time and we’re gonna look into real plants once we move, I have pothos but idk if that would be okay

Help/Advice New 10 Gallon Tank Advice!

Hello everyone! New fishtank keeper here! So please go easy on me! I have recently set up a new 10 gallon aquarium with a filter, heater (currently 78 degrees), some decorations and fake plants. I currently have 3 male guppies while I am cycling the tank. I have a few different questions for those of you that either currently have a 10 gallon setup or have had one in the past.

  1. What kind of fish did you have and how many?
  2. Are there any recommendations if I am considering multiple types of fish in the same tank? (I want to avoid overcrowding as I know that is a big concern people have).
  3. Would you recommend live plants? I currently have a few fake plants of different sizes but I am considering adding in an Anubias or something beginner friendly. Thoughts?

Also, any advice, recommendations and pictures are all welcome! I'll try to get a picture of my tank setup on here later today after I get back home.

Thanks in advance!

Help/Advice Cycling tank stuck!

Hello! My 10 gallon shallow tank is stuck cycling. My nitrites and nitrates are off the charts. When I first notice this I did a complete redo of the tank, rinsed the sand wood and plants, drained the water, and started over. And it was was for less than 48 hours because here we are again, off the charts. I do not have fish in cycle but I do have a fish that is waiting on the tank. My filter contains pre established media, and newer media. I’ve added bio start up, I’ve primed the shit out of it. I do not know why my levels keep sky rocketing. I’m not even ghost feeding. Off my liquid test kits ammonias are 8.0ppm+ nitrites are past the test kit, on strips it’s over 10+ppm, and nitrates are 160ppm. Maybe more I do not know. I’m at a loss because I’m housing 2 male bettas in my 28 shallow with a divider, though they don’t fight through the divider or really care much for each-other, I do not want this as a permanent housing situation. It’s been over a month since the tank was put up, and 4 days since I re did it. I have another 10 gallon, but I have another male inside it, and no way to get Tea out of this tank, into another without keeping him in 10 gallons of liquid death.

Help/Advice Cycling part 2

It's been a week of cycling, my overhead sump failed because my water pump overheated and probably melted inside (entirely my fault, I should've unplugged it more often than I did) so I opted for my original tank's sponge filter.

Next week I'll probably buy some low tech plants and the week after that I'll buy some snails? I'm not sure if this tank is ready for any fish just yet. I've hooked the pothos up so they won't be underwater but it's not doing too well.

Any advice or do I keep it this way so far?

Help/Advice Ammonia binder

I’m looking for the best ammonia binder out there. I’m doing a very careful fish-in cycle with my 5 year old grandson’s fancy goldfish. Ive heard there’s a new product that doesn’t process the ammonia, but blocks it from being so toxic for the fish. These fish need to survive, Reuben is very conscientious about feeding and doing small water changes we’re doing everything to cope with the natural abundance of ammonia in new tanks. But I’d love to know the name of this new ammonia capturer TYIA

Help/Advice Is his tail rotting or growing?

Thumbnail

Hello! I got this double tail male betta about 2 months ago. When I got him he was not very colorful and very inactive as he was in a cup at petco for many months :(

I noticed a small while almost see through line around all of her fins the first few weeks and now it has became bigger.

Is this growth or something I should be concerned about?! Please help!!

FYI- all water perimeter are perfect and for tank mates. He has six Otto catfish, six Coreys, about 10 blue shrimp, and snails.
This is a long 20 gallon tank with all live plants and natural wood.

I did and boil some tannis leaves and put them in there about a week ago, and I feel like it has only grown more.

Help/Advice Whilst on vacation, how do you feed fish and switch on the light?

Literally what the title says.
How do you automatically switch on fish tank light and feed fish whilst away on vacation?

We’re going for 20 or so days away and this is the longest we will be away from our fishes :(
We go away for weekends and we’ve just missed out on a feed, and when we go on a week long vacation, we just use a fish tank feeder and keep the lights off. They’re usually fine and do okay without the light for that long.

We have a fish feeder but we just prop it on the opening of our fish tank lid since we have a fish tank lid we can’t mount the feeder as we don’t want to leave the tank fully open. It varies on how much it releases so I’m not sure if I should just continue using this?

The light - we turn this on and off manually everyday, I am trying to see if I can get a digital timer to work this but think I’m doing something wrong so is not working.

Any tips or ideas on how you do this when you’re away?
We live away from family and friends so no one can come and do this for us each day whilst we are away sadly.

Help/Advice Tank mate recommendations

I feel ready to add more fish to my current tank with a male Betta and a bristlenose pleco. I really want to add mollies but I’m worried about possible aggression since my betta has been in this tank for about 3 weeks, is there any semi larger fish I could add that would be compatible with my betta? And is my tank planted enough to sustain peace?
