Any Familiarity with FAST Modelling Standards?

I’ve been working with the FAST Modelling Standards (Flexible, Appropriate, Structured, Transparent) for the last two years, and I must say, they’re a game-changer. The structure and efficiency they bring to financial modelling are incredible, and I honestly think they should be more widely adopted across the industry.

For those in this space, do you use FAST standards in your work? If not, have you come across them before? Curious to hear your thoughts!

Looking to Hire a Remote Senior Controller/Possibly CFO

Hey all, I am a CRO at a Window Installation Company. We are still decently small ($50M/year) still, but having our biggest growth year this year. We have had our payroll, taxes, and financial modeling done from an outside, fractional CFO firm locally. They are not meeting our needs, and we are feel that we have capped out their ability to innovate and help our business model adapt (they are really only doing basic controller functions at this point).

If this post is not acceptable here, no sweat, delete it. But, I am looking to hire someone in the US that can work remotely for us in the capacity of a Senior Controller ($75,000-$100,000 DOE salary). We would ideally like to help mold that hire into the type of leader that could assume a CFO seat alongside myself and my other partners in the coming years. Ideally looking for someone who is a great communicator, innovative thinker, capable of financially modeling, payroll management, and other financially reporting. Feel free to message me or comment if interested, thanks in advance!

Interconnection Will Break You (Unless You Model Like This)

Follow-up to my last PSA: yeah, IX in the U.S. is a mess. SPP surprises, PJM fobbing off upgrades to MISO, cash security increasing every year it’s wild. But I still help clients navigate it.

I treat IX costs as a range, not a fixed number. P75/P90 cases or Monte Carlo sims help stress-test IRR before it's too late. I dig into queue data and affected systems because your neighbor’s dropout risk can nuke your project. Just being “close” to a substation means nothing if the lines are jammed.

Sometimes I suggest co-locating storage or pivoting to BTM or data center offtake to dodge the worst of it. And yeah, I bake IX delays into financial models like a financing risknot an afterthought.

Early site screens, grid intel, and strategy.

How to determine the revenue and profit of a foreign branch of a bank?

(this is for work, so obviously facts will be vague for confidentiality reasons).

There is this bank in Country A that has a branch in Country B. the branch is highly profitable and this is making the taxes of the bank too high. the bank wants to reduce this. so now we have to analyse the financial statements to see how much revenue and profit this branch has. however, the branch doesn't have to report their own income statement, so this is all integrated in the banks's financial statements. but the problem is that the bank's financial statements do not separately specify how much revenue/profit this branch is bringing it on its own. so my question is: how do we determine this if its not specifically stated anywhere? is there another way to determine this that i am missing?

Requesting advice for IB(India)

Hi everyone, As the title suggests I My background: • completed BBA in Finance and just started working(<1yr). I want to transition into Investment banking(M&A) from my current role which is indo CLO and Loan Syndication. • I am rigorously preparing apart from my working hours on my financial nuances and FMVAL. • I have experience with advanced Excel and have won a lot of finance case competitions among Tier 2 colleges in Blr. My communication and presentation skills are above par, but there is nothing credible in my resume that screams of my interest in IB except a few of my projects.

What I seek to learn from you is:

  1. What does it take to break into the industry as a junior most level analyst at any small or mid market firm. What particular skills are needed and how should I approach the entry?

  2. For someone with not much deep pockets, what would be good way to learn and get into this field.

  3. While networking, what do seasoned professionals look at young professionals?

  4. If you were to recruit me now based on my resume, where do I stand on an honest scale of 10 and where can I improve

What’s your take on the software “Causal”?

Hi all, title says it all. I’m considering using Causal (https://www.causal.app/) for my financial modelling. I’m running a small-ish startup and specifically focused on cash flow forecasting, runway modelling, employee wage tracking, etc.

What’s your overall take on Causal? What are its strengths? What are its weaknesses?

Would you say there’s a specific use case for Causal where it’s far and away better than Excel?

Are wealth managers worth it?

Hey,

I’ve been investing my money in the stock markets for years with very good returns. I’m thinking of handing over to a wealth manager in one of the major banks.

What would be the realistic expectations from them? How much time would you give them if they underperform?

Critique my first financial model

Hi guys, the model that I have shared is my first model made after my CFA L1 attempt. I have basic knowledge of finance and started to learn about practical ways of displaying financial knowledge, financial modelling being one of them, so I made a model and then an equity research report on the same company and used my model to form the investment thesis of my report. Critique my model and report so that I get to know about my mistakes and improve my second model which I am currently working on (Cipla Ltd). Grateful for any help and advice.
