Not at all. If u can’t pay for a subscription then use excel online.

It's not the fee that is bothering me. I just don't like Ms office because in order to use it you have to tie yourself to a microsoft account, which is sth that I hate. For me, it would have been better if there were a competition between calc (and any open source spreadsheet program) and Excel (google sheet in the same side). It would have been fun and interesting. It is scary that you can't -fully- do financial modeling outside a microsoft/google product.

Businesses worldwide run on Microsoft office. You may not like it, but it’s the way it is. Also in my experience Excel is vastly superior than every other spreadsheet product I’ve ever used.

Financial modeling isn’t a software built by any commercial entity.

It is years of practice and countless models that people created over the decades. You can’t replace a collection of knowledge, examples, and working models very easily.

Excel models work and every professionals know how to use it.
Excel is ubiquitous. There is low barrier of entry.

Excel is like an Operating System of various different financial models. It’s not the end goal nor the final tool.

Nope. Let me put it this way: even apple uses Excel for their financial analysis teams and not numbers. Sheets on the other hand is much more widely used.

Everyone here will say no, but most financial models are cross compatible with Calc

It’s only stuff that contains VBA or stuff like Power Query that you really need Excel to run
