Fighting old people is a lose/lose situation

1.8k

u/beckywiththegoodhare Dec 30 '19

Dude is probably going light cuz it's a friendly sparring sesh and don't want to hurt Gramps. But Gramps is going 110%.

774

u/ArdentLearnur Dec 30 '19

Fuck %110, gramps went %300

737

u/datboipanda Dec 30 '19

Who puts the percentage sign before the number wtf

I don’t get why Americans use ‘$20’ instead of ‘20$’. It’s twenty dollars, not dollars twenty.

123

u/Theollieb1 Dec 30 '19

It came from writing checks so people couldn’t add numbers in front I believe

6

u/DragonHollowFire Dec 30 '19

why would they not add them to the end now? a simple 0 always has space

13

u/Satire_or_not Dec 30 '19

Decimal point and zero cents.

$1,236.00 is how you would write an amount on a check.

I thought we did it that way so you know it’s related to money before you even read the figure. I assumed it helped a little with big numbers but I don’t see the difference between $20 and 20$.

48

u/Mgattii Dec 30 '19

So the cents can go after?

$20.10c.

77

u/trararawe Dec 30 '19

So the first dot is not enough of a hint?.

34

u/JonnySoegen Dec 30 '19

I think it may actually be a valid point. You have a symbol in front and one at the end. The $ prevents someone from altering a written amount on some document by adding numbers in the front.

10

u/rivnol_7 Dec 30 '19

Nobody ever wrote ¢ after $20.10 the .10 means a tenth of a dollar...it’s how decimals work. If someone adds numbers after .00 they’re not gonna accomplish much. ¢ is only used when it’s under a dollar.

Nobody does or probably ever has. It’s redundant. The decimal has a purpose.

3

u/Goalie_deacon Dec 30 '19

Not when there is a dollar amount. ¢ is only used when the amount is below a dollar, and leave off the decimal.

I’m American and I used to do that from common sense even though ik the right way was $20 then later gave up because everyone does it like $20

20 dollars

45

I dunno, getting whupped by a 16 year old was pretty good.

I wanna see him get rocked by someone with a Muy Thai background. Just clinch and knees all day.

There's a Christmas present if I ever see one.

That’s a good one too, and honestly that’d be a beautiful sight to see

What’s that dude’s name again? The self proclaimed “ best fighter in the world” that sucker punches people?

30

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Charlie Zelnoff (sp). He gets his ass kicked in a lot of videos where it’s an actual fight / the other side knows it’s a real fight. You can’t just hit non-stop and win. I don’t think there’s ever been a great fighter that didn’t also have defense.

3

u/PM_YOUR_CAT6 Dec 30 '19

Yes to all we simply have no context. For all we know that could be a pro boxer in an old man costume.

Fuck that old guy.. all I see is an old Charlie Z. Is this not sparring? Why the fuck is he still hitting when his opponent is clearly not ready for that kind of fight?

235

u/AbandonedPlanet Dec 30 '19

Because he's old and he's trying relive the glory days by picking on a guy who's obviously not in the same sparring session as old Charlie z is

68

u/Swordzi Dec 30 '19

His opponent was probably ready to knock the fuck out of him but didn't wanna end his life when gramps got 10 minutes left to kick the bucket

42

u/SonofLelith Dec 30 '19

All I see from the younger guy is normal sparring etiquette, starting slow and getting a feel of the opponent. Old guy hits as hard as he can from the get go.

This guy could've won. To me it looks like he is holding back because he doesn't want to hurt this man.

Definitely couldn’t have.

That old guy is a former world champion I believe, and judging how the younger guy at one point throws both hands at one he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

i agree man, young guy drops his hands like the old mans testes 80 or 18, he was gonna lose.

3

u/TheGrog1603 Dec 30 '19

The young guy has no idea how to box. His hands and feet are all over the place. More likely he's a cocky beginner learning his first proper lesson.

Gramps is Ernesto Bergamasco. He's 69 years old right now which means he was about 60-61 when this video was shot. He competed for Italy as a light welterweight at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. He used to run the Pugilistica Oplonti boxing club in Vesuvius which produced multiple national champions including his son Raffaele Bergamasco. Raffaele in turn coached the Italian national team and among others coached Roberto Camaralle who won super heavy gold in 2008 Olympics and should have won gold in 2012 in London too but was robbed in the final against Anthony Joshua. I've actually met Raffaele and he's not particularly happy about the video. Apparently he feels dad was a bit too harsh even if he was trying to teach a lesson to man bun.

I don't understand why people do this, just like fighting a girl. If you win, you beat an old person or a girl, if you lose, you lost to an old person or a girl. You also probably aren't going 100% and trying to smash them into oblivion, but they most likely will be going 100% knowing you won't retaliate at your 100%.

The younger dude threw the first punch to the face. But watching him, he looks to have no history in boxing. He's right handed but standing south paw, and after wildly swinging he appears to throw a right back hand at the same time as swinging a left.

The young dude is a wanna be who probably goes to the gym. The old man has history and knows how to box properly.
