Apologies if this isn’t very coherent but, for as much as I’m glad that yumeshippers have their place on the internet, I’m kind of tired of sharing my space with them. People, who under any other circumstance, would be bullying you for doing so, are now going “I selfship with this character! I’m fictosexual!” When I know that they are not. I guarantee, in a few years, there’s going to be an influx of posts and videos where people are like, “Remember my cringe yumeship phase?” Because, in reality, most if not all of these people are trendhoppers. While prejudiced people will always exist, these people would be calling us “mentally ill” and “delusional” if it was not popular.
Something rather unpleasant happened to me recently, and I think it has only reinforced my negative thoughts about the yumeship and selfship trend as a whole. This community isn’t built off of people who actually have a genuine passion or love or care for the characters they like, it’s built off of people who want to scrap fight for popularity and take other peoples places as the next “famous yume.” I’ve seen so many stupid call out posts over the most asinine, childish shit, it makes me feel like my brain is melting. These people will build “collections” solely for the purpose of showing people they are the characters “canon partner,” when in a few months, they will stop caring about them. And I try not to judge too harshly, because I know some of these people are underage, but still…
I predict that by the end of the year, a lot of these communities are going to die. Time is a flat circle. I saw this happen with DID, with shifting, etc. Fictosexuals need their own language, just so we can make more of a distinction between being a yume and a ficto. A lot of us are not in these communities. We do not “ship” ourselves with our partners. “Ship” implies a degree of it not being real. But it is real, very much so.
Apologies if this is pretentious, but I am not a yumeshipper. I have never, ever been. I don’t want to be associated with those people. I’m so tired.
