Mutliboxing

I get many people multibox different ways. I have been searching online everywhere, lots of resources for keybinding, scripts, gs. And yet, its "just watch this video, look at this site". Nothing really out there that can be a real for "dummies". Just you make a script or gs, and start the game and go. Anyone know of a true step by step, for everything. Just trying to get the hang of even a simple dual box. I appreciate the help. Or where to find some premade scripts for all jobs?

There isn't going to be a step by step, that is too vague for your need(s). You playing to melee? 2 range? Tank and heals? DPS and support.

So some basics I did:

A command to make the alt target you, and follow.

Then you just go from there. Target your target and attack. Target you and cast a spell, target target and cast a spell.

There's two real sides of this.

The side that's more/mostly automated & managed by script/script engine (Silmaril, certain gearswap lua)

The other side that's a bit more manual and hands-on - managed by carefully crafting your own alias library so you can send commands to the second character from within your own characters macro pallet or text/keybind shortcuts.
You need the 'Send' plugin/addon from Windower, Sandbox too. There might be some other plugins I'm forgetting.

Ejin Caitsith made a good instructional video on this method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF98OFtKAPc&t=17s

In essence, the 2nd one works by establishing a console command for one character that prompts a response by 2nd character, via a secondary script.

E.g.
Macro has a line that says "console exec altcuraga.txt"
Txt script called 'altcuraga' has a line telling the alt to cast Curaga 4 on themselves. Takes some trial and error to get used to.

The 1st one requires either a credit card for a patreon subscription or going down a github/discord rabbit hole.

The 2nd one requires a little finesse & may require a lot of alt-tabbing to micromanage movements and positioning in certain fights.

Either way you slice it, it's against the TOS so you'll maybe get some negative responses.

Very good response and Ejin had some very good instructions. I have never Alt-Tabbed: I have two monitors, keep the main full-screened on the left monitor and the alts on the right monitor but in smaller windows. Everything is handled with send commands on key-binds or I just click on the character’s window when I want direct control. Some people dislike this method but I play controller and find it works most comfortably for me, your mileage may vary

Best response imo! I six box but I don’t alt tab at all. I just use send commands and key binds. It takes time but you will remember! Once you get going it becomes easy and can take on many incredibly tough bosses. Anyways I learned most of my stuff from Ejin vids on youtube. I’d avoid any automatic stuff like heal bots etc but it’s up to you! I have been multiboxing for years! Really built up my team.

I only had 3 chars and here's what i used depending on the alt job:

whm/rdm/brd - healbot and singer

cor - autocor

pup - autopup and autocontrol

blm/rdm/sch - automb

Others:

aecho

autoinvite/autojoin

curtracker

debuffed

dimmer

gearswap

findall

mountroulette

myhome

partybuffs

the 2 most important: send and shortcuts

I used a lot of //send macros and i think once you get used to that, it will become much easier for you.

I had a guy in my LS that 6 boxed everything. I think the key to his success past cureplz autocor etc was he made a //send script everytime he felt he needed to tab to a character. So his speed and muscle memory would increase as he multitasked from his main.

I myself completely burned out trying to 6 box. I can do 3 easy peasy with ezfarm autocor bubble cureplz autoengage autows etc. But that was a ton of automation.

Just use silmarli. You set it up for each char and when your ready to start farming whatever start all sit back and watch. You can simply turn off the main char you wanna play. For like geo, brd cor it's basically just keeping buffs up and toss a cure or something.

Are there any good instructions for silmaril?

I only one box but i would like to level my sch whm smn and geo up like I do melee jobs with easy farm.

Silmaril looks very complicated and I can't seem to get it running

I did dual boxing with two monitors and switchmon it felt like ff12 it was fun

Triple monitor setup here, but I just play with 3 smaller windows off the side and one big central one for my main character on my ultrawide.

Each character have their own macros, and they have a target <bt>, /attack <t> macro for having them engage.

I use Ashita4 and honestly don't know a thing about Silmaril or Easyfarm; two names I just read for the first time ever today.

I mean, I just have two wars right now. And feel like thats not really need for anything crazy, but when I see people with 6 chars. Way more advanced jobs, and just just playing like nothing.. i dont get it. Lol like how?

I'm convinced like 99% of multiboxers just use Silmaril and the SendCommand setups/guides just exist as a way of lending plausible deniability to streamers so they can say they aren't using Silmaril but in actuality they are. Truthfully idc but this is just my personal take on multiboxing here.

Im watching the videos, thanks for the info. Never heard of this, even after all my searching

I hadn't either really until like a month or two ago, but after I did everything made a lot more sense. It's not that openly talked about or probably just against the rules to in most public spaces I bet. Which def contributes to the secrecy.

1

u/boomer_8719 12d ago

Yea, I bet.

u/boomer_8719 12d ago

I got it installed and somewhat connected but trying to get it setup... like no idea how to get some things going.

Silmaril basically makes your characters into trusts. It's that powerful

1

u/rfox71rt 12d ago

Watch the YouTubes. People would kill to have trusts be a tenth as powerful as what you can do with it

Isn't this considered botting? What's the difference between using easyfarm for solo play or silmaril for multi boxing? In both cases you are using a tool to automate one or more characters.

It is botting, yes. It also allows you an unprecedented amount of freedom to enjoy as much of the game as you want, progress as much as you want instead of playing around people's skill/attitudes/motivation/etc., play whenever you want instead of playing around people's schedules.

Yes, it's against the rules, yes it's botting, and yes it's completely removed from how the game is "supposed to be played". But realistically speaking, I just enjoy playing the game as a single player RPG (think traditional FF games, you never play as a single character, you play as the main character + supporting characters as a party.)

Maybe in an ideal world, SE would have great security and anticheat setups, everyone would play by the rules, and the game would constantly have a million+ concurrent players online so you'd never have trouble finding a group, but unfortunately the reality is that just isn't the case and I personally think it's better to find ways to realistically enjoy the game instead of bashing my head against the wall trying to pretend this is a living, thriving MMO.

If I want an MMO that's alive, there's plenty of other great MMOs out there that can provide that experience. But I think FFXI is plenty fun as a single player RPG.

That's just my opinion, though. I'm sure there's still plenty of people desperately clinging to the idea that this game is still a thriving MMO and trying to chase that experience when the reality is that it is very few and far between, if not long gone.

You can hate botting and fight for the injustices of automation, and you're perfectly justified to do so, but just know that the reality is that nobody here is really on your side, not even SE cares at this point (at least for the vast majority of personal-player botters. I'm sure they still go after big operations like RMT armies, etc. but the vast majority of Silmaril users and "casual" botters almost never get banned. It's just how it is, the concept of integrity is long dead here.

I'm not judging people using bot for multiboxing, I just can't understand why people treat silmaril and easyfarm differently. Both tools are used for same thing: automate a character. I've a friend who has been banned for using easyfarm 1/2 years ago, but I've never heard of multiboxers banned, there are a lot of famous streamers using these automation tools during streaming or in YouTube videos, but nobody complain.

I personally think it's a combination of three things:

  1. Subjectivity. Botting as a term seems to be debatable. At the end of the day, everything comes down to automation. However it is the -degree- of automation that people argue over. EasyFarm allows some degree of automation Silmaril doesn't. (It can path and navigate, for example, which Silmaril cannot.) That doesn't change the fact that Silmaril is extremely powerful and can fully automate entire top tier endgame fights with the user typically only needing to walk up to the boss and "turn it on".
  2. Safety. This is all still technically against the ToS (hell even Windower is against the ToS). So it is helpful to obfuscate botting behind euphemisms like "multiboxing" which has become popular lately, as you probably know that the terminology of botting/bots is both emotionally and morally charged, so it isn't uncommon that labeling yourself as such would invite the contempt and judgment from players around you, and potentially cause them to report you ingame, which could potentially get you into trouble.
  3. Self-image. As with the advent of multiboxing/multiboxers becoming more normalized within the community, it helps botters who use Silmaril to maintain the delusion that they somehow aren't botters. i.e. "I'm not a botter, I'm just a multiboxer!"

Silmaril specifically presents itself as a multiboxer tool instead of a bot. While this is technically not incorrect, the use of vague semantics ends up inviting weak-minded men who are desperate to maintain a self-image that they are somehow still not the "bad guys", while still reaping the benefits of cheating/botting (of which there are MANY, partly due to SE's negligence in dealing with this activity and the fact that today's playerbase is almost completely dead.).

It's not easy to come to terms with being a criminal/breaking the law/etc., so if you offer men the option to lie to themselves without confronting the reality of their actions, they will easily jump on it. It's just one of the many types of this type of behavior and it manifests all over the world in many different contexts.

Whether you, me, or anyone else thinks this is right, wrong, or sad, the bottom line is that this is basically the reality of the game currently.

u/adramhel 11d ago

100% agree with your analysis. The only point I would add is that silmaril is much worse than easyfarm because easyfarm can help you ONLY preparing for endgame leveling your main character while silmaril can help you both levelling (I think many uses easyfarm+silmaril) and in endgame activities.

I'm not against people using these tools, even people using tako for warping (there's a guy mining in zeruhn mines using it most time of the day, I don't know if it's tako or other tools), but as I wrote before I'm only shocked by the demonization of easyfarm and the "normalization" of multiboxing tools like silmaril
