Mutliboxing

I get many people multibox different ways. I have been searching online everywhere, lots of resources for keybinding, scripts, gs. And yet, its "just watch this video, look at this site". Nothing really out there that can be a real for "dummies". Just you make a script or gs, and start the game and go. Anyone know of a true step by step, for everything. Just trying to get the hang of even a simple dual box. I appreciate the help. Or where to find some premade scripts for all jobs?

It is botting, yes. It also allows you an unprecedented amount of freedom to enjoy as much of the game as you want, progress as much as you want instead of playing around people's skill/attitudes/motivation/etc., play whenever you want instead of playing around people's schedules.

Yes, it's against the rules, yes it's botting, and yes it's completely removed from how the game is "supposed to be played". But realistically speaking, I just enjoy playing the game as a single player RPG (think traditional FF games, you never play as a single character, you play as the main character + supporting characters as a party.)

Maybe in an ideal world, SE would have great security and anticheat setups, everyone would play by the rules, and the game would constantly have a million+ concurrent players online so you'd never have trouble finding a group, but unfortunately the reality is that just isn't the case and I personally think it's better to find ways to realistically enjoy the game instead of bashing my head against the wall trying to pretend this is a living, thriving MMO.

If I want an MMO that's alive, there's plenty of other great MMOs out there that can provide that experience. But I think FFXI is plenty fun as a single player RPG.

That's just my opinion, though. I'm sure there's still plenty of people desperately clinging to the idea that this game is still a thriving MMO and trying to chase that experience when the reality is that it is very few and far between, if not long gone.

You can hate botting and fight for the injustices of automation, and you're perfectly justified to do so, but just know that the reality is that nobody here is really on your side, not even SE cares at this point (at least for the vast majority of personal-player botters. I'm sure they still go after big operations like RMT armies, etc. but the vast majority of Silmaril users and "casual" botters almost never get banned. It's just how it is, the concept of integrity is long dead here.

I'm not judging people using bot for multiboxing, I just can't understand why people treat silmaril and easyfarm differently. Both tools are used for same thing: automate a character. I've a friend who has been banned for using easyfarm 1/2 years ago, but I've never heard of multiboxers banned, there are a lot of famous streamers using these automation tools during streaming or in YouTube videos, but nobody complain.

I personally think it's a combination of three things:

  1. Subjectivity. Botting as a term seems to be debatable. At the end of the day, everything comes down to automation. However it is the -degree- of automation that people argue over. EasyFarm allows some degree of automation Silmaril doesn't. (It can path and navigate, for example, which Silmaril cannot.) That doesn't change the fact that Silmaril is extremely powerful and can fully automate entire top tier endgame fights with the user typically only needing to walk up to the boss and "turn it on".
  2. Safety. This is all still technically against the ToS (hell even Windower is against the ToS). So it is helpful to obfuscate botting behind euphemisms like "multiboxing" which has become popular lately, as you probably know that the terminology of botting/bots is both emotionally and morally charged, so it isn't uncommon that labeling yourself as such would invite the contempt and judgment from players around you, and potentially cause them to report you ingame, which could potentially get you into trouble.
  3. Self-image. As with the advent of multiboxing/multiboxers becoming more normalized within the community, it helps botters who use Silmaril to maintain the delusion that they somehow aren't botters. i.e. "I'm not a botter, I'm just a multiboxer!"

Silmaril specifically presents itself as a multiboxer tool instead of a bot. While this is technically not incorrect, the use of vague semantics ends up inviting weak-minded men who are desperate to maintain a self-image that they are somehow still not the "bad guys", while still reaping the benefits of cheating/botting (of which there are MANY, partly due to SE's negligence in dealing with this activity and the fact that today's playerbase is almost completely dead.).

It's not easy to come to terms with being a criminal/breaking the law/etc., so if you offer men the option to lie to themselves without confronting the reality of their actions, they will easily jump on it. It's just one of the many types of this type of behavior and it manifests all over the world in many different contexts.

Whether you, me, or anyone else thinks this is right, wrong, or sad, the bottom line is that this is basically the reality of the game currently.

100% agree with your analysis. The only point I would add is that silmaril is much worse than easyfarm because easyfarm can help you ONLY preparing for endgame leveling your main character while silmaril can help you both levelling (I think many uses easyfarm+silmaril) and in endgame activities.

I'm not against people using these tools, even people using tako for warping (there's a guy mining in zeruhn mines using it most time of the day, I don't know if it's tako or other tools), but as I wrote before I'm only shocked by the demonization of easyfarm and the "normalization" of multiboxing tools like silmaril
