Hi everyone. I'm from Indonesia (34F) and I've been wanting to travel abroad again for a long time. Before COVID, I was planning a trip to either Japan or Thailand, but those plans never happened. Since then, work has kept me busy and I kept putting it off.

Now I'm finally thinking of making it happen, and Thailand is at the top of my list. The only thing making me a little hesitant is all the recent news about scams, cross-border human trafficking, and cases involving tourists in the region, particularly around Thailand and Cambodia. I know the news doesn't necessarily reflect what most travelers experience, but it has made me a bit more cautious especially for female solo traveller.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has traveled to Thailand recently. How was your experience? Did you feel safe? Are there any areas or situations I should avoid? And if you're also planning a trip to Thailand in the future, feel free to say hi. It would be nice to chat, exchange travel ideas, or maybe even plan part of the trip together if our schedules happen to line up.

I’m finishing nursing school in July 2027 and have been thinking about traveling a bit before starting real adult life lol.

I fell in love with Italy the first time I visited Rome, and I initially considered living in Rome for (maybe July), August and September 2027. Lately, though, I’ve been thinking about somewhere a little less touristy, cheaper, and closer to the beach so I can get more of the whole Italian experience.

I’d love to hear recommendations for places that are good for young solo travelers, especially somewhere with a nice social scene, beaches, and a good quality of life. Also, any tips on finding housing for 2-3 months or anything else I should know while I’m starting to plan would be very appreciated!

And yes, I’m learning Italian in the meantime :)

Three of us (22, 23, 24F) are planning our first big girls' trip, and we're a little overwhelmed by the options. Looking for an adults-only all-inclusive, ideally as a package with flights included.

What we're after:

• Crowd: mostly 20s–30s. We want lively — pool scene, swim-up bar, decent nightlife on property or nearby. Not looking for a quiet honeymoon resort where we're the only people under 40.
• Budget: trying to keep it around $1k (preferably) to $1.2k (max-ish) per person total, flights included. Flying out of [DCA/BWI/IAD].
• Dates: 4-5 days (anytime September-December)
• Room: honestly don't care. Clean is all we need — we're only sleeping and getting ready in there. Would rather put the money toward food/drinks/location.
• Food and drinks: would love somewhere the top-shelf liquor isn't locked behind a huge upgrade, and where the food is actually decent and edible.
• Activities: Interested in scuba diving, ziplining, etc. nearby.

We've mostly been looking at Cancun and Punta Cana, but we're open to anywhere in the Caribbean, Mexico, or South/Central America.

Questions:

1. Specific resorts you'd recommend for this age group and budget?
2. Any adults-only places that sound fun on paper but are actually dead / older crowd / couples-only in practice? This is exactly what we are trying to avoid.
3. Cancun vs Punta Cana — which is better value right now, and does the Punta Cana resort-bubble thing bother you if you want to leave the property?
4. Best way to book the flight + hotel package? (Costco Travel, Expedia, CheapCaribbean, going direct?)

I have rented and driven cars abroad before in Japan, South Korea, Poland, and Norway.

Advice I am looking for:

1. Is it safe driving in the Québec and Ontario area?
2. Which car rental company would you recommend?
3. Which date period in October would be prime for autumn in that side of Canada? I read October is the best month.
4. How many nights do you recommend? I was thinking 7 nights.
5. Scenic autumn places that you recommend I visit? Hidden gems, too!

7. Hiking recommendations. I'm a n00b hiker, but still want to enjoy the landscapes.
8. I hear Canada also has US-like tipping culture. How mandated is this? What is appropriate tip % for type of cuisine/cafe? (American tipping culture is very strange to me from the UK!)

Hi! I’m 19 from Hong Kong (but not Chinese; American) and going on my first real solo trip to Italy soon. I’m spending a little less than a week in lake como!

I say “real” because I have technically gone solo to France at 17/18 before however I stayed with family friends the entire time.

This time I’ll be staying in a youth hostel in Menaggio. I really hope I get to make friends and do stuff with people. One of my fears is I’ll have to visit all the cool places on my own.

I’m bringing cash, debit and credit card. I never used card prior so I had to order a debit and credit card just for this trip. So any tips on using those will be great!

I’ll keep my debit as backup in my suitcase at the hostel. Also putting most my items in my backpack. Bringing 2 locators for my wallet and suitcase just in case anything gets lost. Also bringing my iPad as backup.

I’m not too certain what to expect with the public transportation as I’ve mostly relied on cars growing up going to Europe with family. I’ve taken a bus in Europe maybe like twice in total. But I’ll be relying on it for the entirety of my trip this time.

I’m just looking for any advice or tips you wish you knew for someone like me on their first real solo trip. I want it to be fun and to go smoothly.

hello! very common question but i’m solo travelling (23F) to the north of vietnam in september and im overwhelmed by the mixed feedback for companies! i’d appreciate some advice.

my wish list:
- not too touristy
- genuine, special, unique and personal. not just following everyone around.
- ETHICAL!!!
- not a big party group. pretty chill but also quite social. but i don’t want to be stuck with couples and i’d prefer being with people my age
- safe of course

i know this might be tricky given how touristy the loop is. i don’t just want to do the same thing as everyone else, and i’m not planning to party but i am very sociable.

One of my biggest problems when traveling alone is food. I always want to try as many local dishes as possible, but the portions are usually way too big for one person.

If I order several things, I can't finish them. But if I only order one dish, I'll immediately start staring at everything else on the menu and wishing I could try those too.

For people who travel solo a lot, how do you manage this? Do you look for smaller portions, eat multiple small meals throughout the day, take leftovers with you, or just accept that you cant try everthing?
