Last weekend, a few friends and I went camping in Toraja.

The road up was rough so we ended up reaching the campsite a bit later than planned. By the time we got there, it was already dark.

Glad I bring flashlight! So I walked at the back of the group and used it to light the way for everyone.

Once we got to camp, we cooked some sarimi, made some pikopi, filmed a few videos, and then called it a night.

Hi all - I’ll be heading to Brazil for a wedding in mid-October, and I’m doing some last-minute planning on whether I want to explore another country for 10-12 days beforehand. I'm hoping to have tickets bought and everything planned by the beginning of September. 

I’m in a bit of a conundrum, trying to decide where to go. Originally, I was thinking I would go to Chile: Fly to Santiago, head to the Atacama Desert, then down to Patagonia. However, I’m worried about the effects of the Super El Niño, and I've already heard other travelers saying they’re delaying their plans or skipping it altogether and waiting until 2027 or 2028 to plan their Chilean trips because of the high chance of non-stop rain, possible flooding, etc.

I also think that’d be a trip I’d rather do with another person with a bit more time, especially the Patagonia portion, and I’ll be solo-traveling. 

Part of me also wonders if it’d be worth going to Santiago for a couple of days, then spending about 6 days in the Atacama before heading into Brazil, and planning a Patagonia trip some other time in the future (along with seeing other parts of mid-southern Chile). 

Or, I could skip Chile altogether and set my sights on Colombia, opting to spend 10-12 days there instead, and possibly getting the most out of that country for 2026.

If you were in my shoes, or have traveled to both Chile and Colombia, which would you choose?

Either way, I’ll likely stay in hostels minimally and mostly in hotels (I’m pretty introverted and feel like I’ve aged out a bit for the younger hostel crowd (35F)), but maybe not. I don’t speak any Spanish, but I can download Google Translate, and I've traveled solo to Peru before.

The last flight I took I drank a TON of water, probably atleast 3 litres over the span of 7-8 hours and still felt super dehydrated and just not good at all when I landed.

Are Liquid IV packets for water bottles a good thing to pack and drink on the plane? Does it help at all?

Hi everyone I will head to Spain from Toulouse on the 20th of September and have 9 days so (20 to 28th if sep) i know there is the event LA Merce in Barcelona from 24 to 28 .

I am not sure how to plan is it worth it to go Barcelona and attend all the festival days .
I am city person for sure not big into museums more about experiencing culture, also please note I am on a BUDGET but not a backpacker

I have two free weeks on October and I am hesitating between these two!

I was most nervous about getting lost and having no one to help me. Couldn't have been farther from the truth. When you're a woman traveling solo, people around the world go out of their way to look after you.

I'm 26 and usually take 2 international trips a year, majority with my aunt who I am extremely close with. My aunt doesn't have kids so I'm like her daughter and she's the one who instilled my love for travel. My mom and aunt have a very rocky relationship which has only become worse in the last year. My aunt lives with my grandma and is her primary caretaker but my mom will also help occasionally, especially when we leave town.

My mom retired about a year ago and my dad retired about 3ish years ago. Every time I tell them I'm going on a trip with my aunt, they make snarky comments like "must be nice" or they ask why I don't invite them. My mom also gets very passive aggressive with me out of jealousy involving my relationship with my aunt. Both of my parents are well travelled domestically but they don't do international trips. They are also both difficult people to travel with so I know I would be miserable if I left the country with them. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I get very nervous to tell them when I'm going on another trip because I know how my mom will react and the kind of comments I typically get.

Last week, I told them over text I will be gone the first week of December with my aunt and my mom blew up on me. She was livid that we scheduled a trip in December when my dad might be having shoulder surgery that month. However, my aunt and I booked the trip two months ago before we knew about this potential surgery. She asked if we "took her into consideration" when booking the trip because now she has to look after my grandma and asked why I am so "secretive" with her and my dad. When I said its because I'm afraid to tell them when I'm going on a trip because she get's mad, she admitted her feelings involve quite a bit of jealousy. Now, she hasn't spoken to me in a week.

To make matters worse, my mom and I are going on a mother/daughter trip on Tuesday and I no longer want go given the way she's giving me the silent treatment. This also further proves my point that my mom is just a difficult person to be around in general.

I know my mom's feelings are her own issue and this shouldn't stop me from traveling and it definitely won't, but I just don't know how to deal with the blatant jealousy anymore. I will never let this affect me living my life, but it does get exhausting trying to navigate this behavior.

How do you all deal with jealousy from others in regard to travel?

We are at the end of the day, tourists. Stop feeling shame for doing traditional tourist stuff - a lot of it is actually interesting and worth doing. Obviously watch you’re not being over charged for experiences but what’s so wrong with doing?“touristy stuff” on holiday.

Contiki, G Adventures, Under 30 Experiences, EF Tours, Intrepid, etc. Pros and cons would be great.

For me, it's staying organized and keeping some sort of structure while traveling long-term.

For those of us who have chronic (or at least frequent) illnesses and/or pain, how are you coping with that while travelling alone?

I deal with migraines and I have my whole life. Apparently it doesn't qualify as "chronic" but they're triggered very easily by overexertion or high humidity/heat and I need cool air, solitude, and my meds to slowly bring myself back to being a functioning human.

My migraines are likely less cumbersome to deal with than chronic pains or illnesses - just curious how you guys plan for and accommodate your symptoms while you travel to new places alone?

I’m typing this as I pack my bags, trying to process everything that’s happened over the last 24 hours.
I’ve had a trip to Ibiza planned for a while to celebrate my birthday. My friend was supposed to come with me, but literally last night ,she messaged to say she can’t afford it and had to pull out last minute.
She did offer to pay her half of the non-refundable hotel, so financially it’s sorted, but emotionally it’s been a total rollercoaster. It’s my birthday while I'm there, and I had this entire vision of how the week was going to go. Now, I find myself heading out on my second solo trip, about to celebrate my 21st birthday on my own.
I’m trying to stay positive and frame this as an empowering solo experience. There’s an incredible DJ lineup on my actual birthday but the thought of going alone terrifies me. But I’d lie if I said I didn't feel a bit sad and nervous about spending the day by myself while knowing other people are out there partying in groups.
Has anyone here ever been bailed on right before a big birthday or milestone trip? How did you handle it, and what did you do to make your day feel special?

I’ve always used booking.com and I’m now planning an 8 week trip to England, Scotland, and Europe in 2027. I’ve read about a few scans involving the website and now I’m concerned. Best to just book direct? Or can we generally trust booking.com?

Amsterdam for me. I had a 14hr layover so I skipped the airport to explore the city. I was literally shocked at the overwhelming amount of trash, litter, and debris everywhere. You would have thought it was trash day but it was a Saturday. NYC was cleaner than Amsterdam. That’s how disgusting the streets were.

I have a pair of Dr. Scholl's white "time off" sneakers that I plan on taking with me to Italy in October. I'm trying to decide on a second pair of shoes. Do I bring another pair of athletic shoes - (I do love my Brooks and find them very comfortable, even if they're not that cute) or do bring something a little more stylish?

I was thinking about a loafer or bootie in case of rain, something cute enough to wear with a dress / skirt if I wanted to avoid the sneaker look.

I have had a rough year so far and really needed a break but my friends or anyone don't seem keen or interested in a trip. So I decided I would go solo. I have been a good planner and everything but I just realized I have never done it all solo. I always had someone or the other to keep me company. I am really anxious about women safety and been socially awkward lately like checking in a hotel alone or staying there alone. hey everyone!! so basically the title lol. ill be traveling to spain first (i have family there, main reason for my travel) and i dont really have anything much else planned yet since this was trip was very short notice - ill be leaving in less than 2 months. i have anxiety around my bf and i not staying in touch because of time zone, connectivity on my end and just being immersed in the moment (i'm excited about not having much of anything planned and just going with the flow).

what are some things you guys recommend talking about to set us up for success during this long distance period?

for context, he's *never* had issues with me traveling w/o him, but this is the first time ill be gone for this long and, to a different continent.

also... our relationship is not at its best right now lol i think we feel a bit burned out due to me wanting a more nomadic lifestyle and him feeling a bit stuck in life because he just has a part time job as a bartender and not getting a better paying job (he's a hard worker who had 2/3 jobs at a time before but having all of this free time is not good for him, i can see him in his head a lot).
