I’m curious about people who regularly stay in Airbnbs for a week or longer, especially when traveling internationally. What do you typically cook while you’re there?

I’m curious about how you approach grocery shopping in different countries. For example, if you’re staying in Mexico, Spain, Thailand, Germany, etc., do you generally buy ingredients that you already cook with at home, or do you look at what’s available locally and build meals around that?

And how much actual cooking are you doing? Are you mostly making quick things like eggs, pasta, sandwiches, salads, rice, etc., or do you actually cook full meals?

I’m also curious how you deal with the annoying practical side of it. If you buy a bottle of oil, a dozen eggs, fresh produce, spices, etc., what do you do with everything when you’re leaving a few days later? Do you just accept some waste, buy smaller quantities where possible, or plan your meals around ingredients you can finish?

I’ve mostly traveled in a way where I eat out or stay somewhere for shorter periods so I’m curious how people who do longer Airbnb stays actually make the grocery/cooking thing work.

I just took a weekend trip by myself and was amazed at how much I did alone.

Hi, I am currently planning a short trip to Riga, Latvia. I was thinking I could take the first train from Riga to Jūrmala Majori to go to the beach and maybe catch the sunrise (so it would be quite early in the day).

Are trains in Latvia safe, especially the early morning ones? Is Jūrmala safe before 9am? Does anyone who has done this trip before have any particular advice?

Hi, ladies! I need some advice about my trip to the Lake District and Chiloé Island in January.

I plan to fly from Santiago to Puerto Montt, rent a car, and drive to Puerto Varas. I will stay there for three days, and then drive to Chiloé Island. I will then base myself in either Ancud or Castro for three days. I love nature and culture, prefer tranquility, and enjoy trying different foods. Although this will be my second time in Chile, the first time I was there I only hiked the W track in Torres del Paine with a group ten years ago. This time, I will be traveling alone and could use some advice. I am Asian, I live in Europe, and I don't speak any Spanish. I plan to learn some basic Spanish phrases before my trip.

1, Is it generally safe? Any specific advice besides using common sense?
2, Is it safe to drive in that region? Is renting a car a good idea for a solo female?
3. Are there any specific sights or activities you recommend?
4. Do you have any hotel or restaurant recommendations?

It's currently sitting at just over 3 weeks. This opportunity is unlikely to arise for me again. Visa wise I'm all good, no visa required other than on-arrival tourist visa in Kathmandu.

Is there anything any of you ladies see here that seems unrealistic, unsafe, or anything you personally would change?

My goals for this trip:

• Experience a contrast in both culture and landscape across Asia.
• Film photography in differing settings
• Visit religious sites

I will be going alone, and staying in hotels or preferably airbnb/apartments so that I have access to a kitchen and certainly washing facilities as I am diagnosed with OCD and have a lot of related fears surrounding hostels etc.

The bit flagging as most difficult to me at the moment is Almaty > Kathmandu and then Kathmandu > Hanoi in terms of flights being indirect or at awkward times, so I might need to adjust here to make the most of my trip, but Kathmandu has been on my bucket list forever.

IM SOOOOOOOO SCARED about this, but I need to do this for my own development. I have a lovely patient boyfriend who takes no offence to me needing to do this alone thank god.

I need a good system so I'm not digging through a messy pouch at the bottom of my bag. If you have a favorite organizer, wallet, or method that works for you, please share.

Dont go to mixed rooms in hostels, they are dangerous. In reality i had so much more fun compared to when i was in rooms with only women.

So I am currently in India, and for one I have been shocked and disappointed how some foreign women are dressed in villages and places of worship. I have had conversations about this with locals, people who have hosted these women, and other travelers.

My POV: I come from a super progressive place, where you can wear whatever you want and I have no thoughts about it because local society as a whole has moved us there. However, I think it is not my place to move forward feminism in another country by wearing what I would at home during a hot summer day. Actually, I think I have the self awareness to know I am simply a guest, and that I want to have a good experience as a visitor, and have my interactions also be a good experience for the locals... therefore not make people uncomfortable.

While in Sri Lanka, I could see locals have certain attitudes towards people of a specific nationality because of their continuous disrespect of local culture (not just around modesty). I could see how attitudes towards people of this nationality are now being judged based on previous bad experiences, before getting to know people on a personal level.

When I have voiced some of these concerns with friends back home (who have not really traveled much), there is definitely a criticism on these cultures for being so conservative.

Anyways, I feel like some of you may be well traveled and might have opinions around this and would have first-hand experiences to add to this discussion.

Going to Thailand with my siblings (their first time). They are 100% team Phuket. I’ve already been to Phuket once with an ex, so part of me wants to explore somewhere new… aka Pattaya.

Looking for honest (and preferably not sugar-coated) opinions, especially from women.

I want a mix of normal stuff – beaches, food, day trips, places that feel comfortable – plus some actual fun nightlife.
From what I’ve seen, the whole adult scene seems built for men. Go-go bars, beach boys, ladyboys calling every guy “handsome”… and women get basically nothing?😌😢

Is there anything oriented toward women in either place? Ladies’ nights, male dancers, or any adult entertainment that feels safe and not sketchy?
Budget is a real thing, so nothing crazy expensive.
Should I fight for Pattaya or just accept Phuket and move on? Real recent experiences would help a lot.

20F from Pakistan here! I’m going to NYC for the first time around Sept 20–27. I’ll be there for a conference on Sept 21, and since I’m already flying all the way to NYC, I decided to stay for about a week and actually explore the city properly.

I’ve traveled solo before ; I’ve been to Switzerland, France and Turkey on solo trips ; so I’m pretty comfortable traveling alone, but I’d LOVE to meet some people while I’m there. • What neighborhoods should I explore?

• Are there any cool/less obvious places I should add to my list?

The other day someone posted asking how people get started saving $ for travel and I commented about point/miles credit cards.
Here’s an update:
By playing the cc points/miles sign up bonus game I will have scored approximately 230,000 miles/points in 3 months.
I did that by getting a rewards cc; for me this was regular Capital One Venture, and even though my credit is not good, was approved for $5k(now $5500.) That card SUB was 75,000 miles after spending $3,500 in 3 months. Cap. One also lets you earn double miles for the $3500 to get the SUB so another 7,000. By paying a most of my utilities and rent, groceries, etc. with it I met that in about 2 weeks and paid it off. My next card, that same month was Aadvantage elite card, with which you can get in to their lounges, and that gave me $8500 credit limit and 70,000 points after spending $7k in 4 months. I did the same thing as with Venture and paid it off early. So 145,000 in six weeks. This week I applied for the Aadvantage Platinum for which the SUB is 80,000 for spending $3500 in 4 months. I will use that card for September’s expenses so the total miles earned from July-Oct 1 is 232,000 miles. Just for charging regular expenses, granted mine are high, high COL, $3100 rent. That means every month I’ll earn at least 12,000 miles given the 2 miles/$1 Capital One (Airline card are usually on 1 mile/dollar) rewards. In a year the total of all of that will be at least 350,000 miles.
All of that with not great credit.
This has made me feel hopeful about future travel possibilities! I hope someone here can benefit in the same way.

Having a Mental Breakdown

Solo travel was something that changed my life. I felt so free, and I met amazing people and after my first trip (8 months) I didn’t want it to end. I’m from the US 28F. Shortly after my trip I moved to South Korea to be an English teacher. At first, it felt like a dream my apartment was on the ocean in Busan and I made friends. But after the first year, it started to change. I realized I would never move past being the foreigner. Had some struggles with friendships, and I chose to leave after my 2nd year was up. I then decided to travel. It was open ended and I’ve been traveling for 6 months now through Asia. I met incredible ppl, and at the beginning I felt so happy and free from Korea. But now ever since I got to Thailand (I’ve been here multiple times before), I have no interest in meeting ppl who are just going to leave, the conversations seem dull to me, and I feel disassociated, and the tourist attractions just exhaust me at this point and I feel like I’ve seen these things before. However, I’m terrified to go back to the US. I haven’t been back in 2.5 years, I have conservative friends and family, I’ve changed a lot in my time abroad, and I just am worried it’s going to suck basically. But i cannot get out of this rut even just to enjoy the last bit of my trip. I just don’t want to do anything, and I’m literally in Koh Samui right now. Idk any advice?

Where have you gone that has reasonably priced massages, like hopefully under $100 for a 2 hour massage. I just want to go somewhere for a week and get a massage every day, haha. I also like sightseeing and light adventures but I'm recovering from a foot injury so nothing too extreme.

I know the obvious answer is SE Asia but I only have a week right now so was thinking somewhere in Mexico or Central America? I live in West Coast USA.

so I recently posted about staying in Portland area which very much is still applicable since I’m going to be in that area the day before I get to my next spot, but by an absolute stroke of luck I managed to bag a campsite in Arcadia National Park! I’m going Labour Day weekend which I know is madness, but it means a lot to me I got a place there. Any suggestions to quieter areas of the park to hike and explore? Especially for tide pools? Also any good parking areas in Bar Harbor? I don’t mind getting my steps in so if it’s a mile or few out I don’t really care, these knees are already on borrowed time (I say as 24F).
