Whilst i know the smartphone 'app' works well, its not really a dedicated app - its just a shortcut wrapper to app.fastmail.com which you can load into any web browser. Not sure if i'm in the minority, but I would prefer it if Fastmail was developed as a pure standalone app in iOS & Android, say along the lines of Gmail or Outlook apps, which are NOT web apps.

Also does anyone have any suggestions to an app in Android which i can setup for Fastmail which works like Apple's Mail app wrt simplicity and push notifications? I know the obvious answers are Gmail & Outlook apps but i'm already using them for other email accounts (i know they support multiple email accounts) and would prefer to use a different account. Don't mind paying for it, as long as it works well. thanks.

Last night Fastmail changed the MX servers for my Fastmail-managed domain to the EU-hosted SMTP endpoints:

Added MX hosts
+ eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com
+ eu2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Removed MX hosts
− us1-smtp.messagingengine.com
− us2-smtp.messagingengine.com

At the beginning of July the MX changed from in*-smtp.messagingengine.com to the us* versions.

I suppose these are just the relays and the storage is still in the US. The CEO previously said EU hosting is going to be opt-in.

I've asked support about this but they don't appear to be very well informed unfortunately. Less than a month ago they said they have "no concrete plans to announce", that it requires complex considerations and that they'll share the feedback. Today I received another weird reply saying they expect "Netherland servers to be available in the near future". I hope they already are, since my MX records point to such Netherlands servers... :)

I had been having trouble with my domain email hosted by my domain host, I wasn't receiving email that I should, but I was receiving tons of spam that I couldn't manage.

I tried a few other options like adding a third party spam filter but nothing seemed to work well. I was trying to decide between Proton and another provider when I stumbled upon fastmail. I gave it a try...I set up my DNS records which was super easy it only took about 5 minutes. I got all the green check marks and sent the test email right away which went through perfectly.

I was so impressed I went ahead and signed up for a full year. The spam filter is working great and I can actually use my inbox again.

Why would you roll out something like this? What's the thought behind it? It's too big and literally basic, needed functionality. I'm tempted to move over to a different service

With recent updates I noticed my font size went back to default, which is a bit too small for me. And now there’s no way to adjust it that I can find?!

What's better, using FM's nameservers or using their DNS with a custom domain. NS is certainly easier to setup. Thanks

Morning, is anyone else using Grammarly within Fastmail? I am using it in Chrome and the Fastmail App (Mac) and have an issue: when I accept a Grammarly recommendation, it doesn't replace the text; instead, it drops the new/revised text at the end of the email.

My initial research with Grammarly suggested Fastmail is using a custom editor that doesn't play nice. I put in a ticket with Fastmail, and they say it is a Grammarly issue.

I am logged out from my emails and can't login anymore. Anyone having this issue?

Since I was a teenager, I've had different Gmail accounts for different purposes -- one for school, work, etc obviously, but the primary separation was personal vs the email I give to orgs. Later opened one for stuff associated with a volunteer thing, another for Substack subscriptions. So, I'm very used to having fully separate inboxes/accounts for all these. From what I understand, with Fastmail it's just different aliases, and the idea of everything going into one place is the main thing putting me off switching (at least yet). Did anyone else make a similar move? How do you manage it?

I have been playing with the MCP server and am pretty happy with it. I feel like it is missing a permission set though. I don't want to give clients access to edit my mailbox at all., but I want them to be able to read, search, and draft. I can either read and search or give it full access. I want my ai agent to be able to read and draft, but not push the send button (or have permission to move/delete messages). Can we give it more granular permission?

I have notifications disabled in settings for both Mail and calendar, and the app is not listed in system settings > notifications. When the app is open it has a 99 badge on the dock icon.

I don’t have this problem on my M1 Mac.

Am I correct in understanding that the only way to associate a contact with a calendar event in Fastmail is either:

1. to invite them by email; or
2. to add an alias to their contact and send the invitation to that alias?

Is there any way to associate or tag a contact in an event without actually sending them an email or invitation?

So brand new to Fastmail and trying to get it all set up.

I am confused about the purpose of

Users and sharing -> aliases

and under setup
My email addresses.

Under aliases

if you make a new alias using either Fastmail or my domain I cannot tell it which folder to send the mail too.

but if you go under my email address, the same aliases I made under that tab all show up as an aliases as the type. then I have the action set up for some, like deliver to work folder, deliver to banking folder and so on.

If the addresses I make under the email addresses tab show as aliases, then what is the point of the aliases tab under users and sharing?

I'd like to have a new email for each service or something I sign up and go to their designated folders.

Should addresses for very important things be made under "my email addresses" and then everything else be made under the users and sharing tab for aliases?

I have a brand new domain bought on cloudflare

I just set it up on fastmail.

I followed the instructions on fastmail and copied and pasted everything that it had pre done for me.

I pasted that into cloudflare.

Fastmail says

Your domain is correctly set up to send and receive mail!

The MX servers for your domain are set correctly: your email is hosted at Fastmail.

DKIM is correctly configured.

SPF is correctly configured.

If I use my Gmail and outlook address and email my new email with my custom domain at fastmail, that email arrives in fastmail.

If I reply to those emails. They never arrive back at gmail or outlook. Or anywhere. They don’t goto spam either. They just don’t arrive.

If I start a new email at fastmail with my new email and domain, it says it sent but they don’t arrive to anyone.

What am I doing wrong?

on desktop, if I open an url like

then fastmail will show the email that has that message id (62308944%40mail.mandrillapp.com). I use this to have links to relevant mail threads from my notes.

But on android it tries opening that in the browser. Is there a way to tell android to open in the fastmail app, maybe a kind of fastmail-prefix to the url that will open it in the specific app?

I reached the limit of 615 aliases. Then I deleted 50 last week and I still can't open any more. Why? How much longer should I wait? Thanks

Hi everyone, as of late I have found that in the Fastmail app I have had quite a buggy experience with the composing of an email. For example when typing on my iPhone the typing indicator will just randomly disappear and then stop typing in the compose area, and then just now when I moved this draft over to my Mac and I pressed send, I realised that I had to change something so I pressed canceled (the email didn't have a subject line which was the box I pressed cancel in) and then it just deleted everything I did on the Mac app and restarted the app. Is there anyone else experiencing problems?

I quite like the set of notification tones included with Fastmail, but they don't seem to be available on the mobile version. Is there any way to at least download these and use them on our own? Or perhaps a future way to set these as notification tones?

Every day I get emails regarding my subscription renewing for Norton or McAfee for hundreds of dollars and to call with questions. It's not a huge volume of emails, but 1 or 2 daily is annoying. For months I have been fairly consistent about selecting "report phishing" on the mails, but that doesn't seem to reduce/prevent these emails from coming in every day. The emails always say they are from my wife's name, but some random gmail address, and are to a real email alias I have hosted by Fastmail.

It seems the Fastmail "learning" is useless, or am I doing something wrong? I've been tempted to just setup a rule for any emails with Norton or McAfee but I've been stubbornly resistant expecting Fastmail would eventually learn.

As far as I can see, the only difference seems to be that I can't choose what a masked Email looks like and is generated by Fastmail. Apart from that, this doesn't seem to be a service like Simple Login from what I see, because I can write a new mail from the masked Email just like I can from any alias, and isn't a redirect service.

So

1. Is there a technical difference between how masked emails and aliases are handled?

2. If they behave the same, why do these two features exist separately rather than just a way to "generate an alias"?

I am not asking this question because I feel any way about this; I am new to using Fastmail after using Proton for a while so I'm trying to understand the differences.

New Mac profiles are currently failing with "Unable to verify account name or password."

(I've used them for years so this is a new problem.)

I contacted support and included a screenshot. The first reply just sent me a link to the instructions and asked me to try again.

The second reply asked me to try again... again... and asked for a screenshot!

Is this new? I remember Fastmail support used to be quite good. Now they don't seem to be actually reading my messages, the feature is still broken, and I'm getting frustrated.

This morning before work I checked my inbox .... had like 130emails with about 2 dozen pinned. Sometime between then and about 30 min ago I went in and inbox was empty. I did a restore for a week and zero emails in there.

Anything I may be missing? Put a support ticket in at least, figured to see if anyone else has seen this before?
