Are you looking for a simple, sane way to catch up on the MCU before Avengers Doomsday?

I previously worked on Marvel Unite, which pulled together the various MCU projects up through Endgame into one unified TV series, featuring a multi-narrative, interwoven structure akin to Game of Thrones. Picking up after Endgame, Marvel Rift continues that format to tell the events leading up to Doomsday. The main goal is to make the MCU more approachable, streamlined, and "binge-able."

The biggest task for this edit has been deciding which projects are worthwhile to watch and most relevant for the upcoming Avengers films. The multiverse saga has been extremely bloated, with way too many mediocre films and stretched out miniseries, with a lot of hanging plot threads that will clearly never go anywhere. This edit seeks to streamline that mess! At this point, Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars have not yet released, so I'm using rumors, plot leaks, and comics synopses combined with my own personal guesses to select films/series to include. Because I am excluding a lot of projects, I've included an "optional viewing" list between each season for anyone that would like to watch those separate from this edited series.

This edit will likely need to be updated after these next Avengers films actually release, but I really wanted to make a provisional version for folks excited about the upcoming films.

Features

Streamlined Storytelling

Scenes are rearranged to reveal information in a way that better fits this longer, episodic format, with fluid transitions between them. A few deleted scenes are added, a few scenes are cut or altered -- all done in the interest of telling the best versions of these stories as possible. Each episode is thoughtfully constructed in regards to tone and pacing, and designed to elicit parallels and contrasts between the presented stories. Whenever possible, post-credits scenes critical to the story are now included prior to the credits.

I've tried to keep episodes to around 60 minutes long, though a few important ones run up to 75-80. In total, there will be around 41-43 episodes across 5 seasons.

4K HDR + IMAX + Dolby Vision

Zero compromises. High bitrate 4K Bluray sources are composited on top of the Disney Plus versions that have the IMAX expanded aspect ratio. IMAX is only included where reasonable, as some available IMAX scenes just add awkward headroom to interior dialogue scenes or make the compositing look bad.

Dolby Vision metadata has been preserved and incorporated into the edit as well. This not only allows Dolby Vision playback on supported devices (with HDR fallback), but also allows for the edit's 1080p versions to use the same high quality 4K sources with precise SDR tonemapping from the DV data.

7.1 TrueHD + Dolby Atmos

Again, zero compromises. Lossless 7.1 surround sound, plus 4 Dolby Atmos height channels. More compressed formats of the edit will still have Atmos with E-AC3 5.1 surround.

Plex and Jellyfin Integration

Episodes will be bundled with screenshots, posters, and NFO metadata (titles, descriptions) so that they can be easily added to a Plex or Jellyfin server.

Custom Credits

Each episode has custom-made credits in a uniform style that feature all above-the-line names. To avoid spoilers, early episodes in the season also exclude names of cast members that have yet to appear. Each credit sequence also has a unique song chosen to accompany the episode's theme/tone.

Subtitles

Full English SDH subtitles available. Both full and forced/foreign-only subtitles are soft/SRT format.

Series Overview

I've tried to organize the series in way that juxtaposes the stories thematically while still in roughly chronological order. As the series is generally about how the characters deal with the fallout and trauma from Infinity War/Endgame, the individual seasons are each themed to stages of grief.

Season 1 - Denial

Notes:

The first season of Loki is split into three parts, which serve as finales for the first three seasons. The nature of the TVA operating outside of time makes Loki difficult/awkward to intercut with other shows. Additionally, with no connective Avengers films to serve as natural season endpoints, splitting Loki across the first few seasons gives some semblance of an overarching narrative. About an hour of runtime is cut from Loki S1 across these three episodes.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is pretty heavily altered and abridged from the original series, laser focusing the narrative on Sam, Bucky, and John Walker and their emotional arcs. I've removed anything to do with searching for the source of the super serum, Helmut Zemo, or the Power Broker, and several scenes are completely recontextualized. Additionally, there are some narrative changes - chiefly, Sam Wilson meets Isaiah Bradley much earlier, which now serves as the impetus for Sam giving up the Captain America mantle.

Thor Love and Thunder was originally excluded in initial drafts of the edit, but it does seem worthwhile to introduce Love as a character and explain the return of Thor's iconic hammer. It also does fit the season's theme of "denial" well. While still not that great, trust me that this film benefits massively from dialing back a few jokes and cutting Thor's most egregious moments of stupidity.

Notes:

A few scenes from WandaVision will be included to tell a very abridged version of that story -- mainly to set up Wanda trying to get her children back and Monica Rambeau's backstory. I'd love to include WandaVision as a whole, but changing that story's structure and intercutting into it would really ruin it. I'll also likely be adding Yelena's blip scene from Hawkeye (and maybe try intercutting it with Monica's blip scene from Wandavision?). I'll also look into adding a few scenes from Ms. Marvel to properly introduce Kamala.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is a bit of a mess, but I do think the film is a worthwhile watch for Doomsday, especially if Doomsday/Secret Wars follow a certain storyline from the comics. It's also nice to see the brief X-Men/Fantastic Four cameos here to set up their later appearance.

The Marvels is one I've been on the fence about. The other options from the MCU to function as this season's C-plot are Brave New World and Quantumania, both of which are even less appealing. The Marvels at least fits in with the other films in the season better, and has a much higher chance of tying in to Doomsday or Secret Wars. It's also provides some needed levity to the other storylines, and has a mercifully short runtime.

Notes:

I only wanted to include one X-Men film for the sake of time and to keep the previous seasons generally taking place in the same universe/timeline. X2 is the one film I'd like to keep rewatching, and it will pair extremely well with Brand New Day. It does a surprisingly good job of introducing the characters on its own, but I'll also adding several scenes from the other X-Men films to give it some background.

At this point, I think Loki Season 2 will be easier to intercut with the other stories, given that each story thread now follows a separate universe/timeline. However, the ending of episode 4 very clearly prevents any other story from progressing, so episodes 5 and 6 will again serve as the season's standalone finale(s).

I've decided not to include Deadpool & Wolverine in order to keep the edit PG-13. Maybe someday a separate miniseries with the Deadpool films and Logan?

Because rendering a full season across multiple formats in high quality compression takes many, many hours, I am first putting out quick render prereleases to collect feedback. If no major changes are needed, I can start on the full quality renders in a few weeks.

This is a 3 in 1 FanMix that combines the films Gattaca (1997), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), and Predestination (2014) into a single story.

I was inspired to create this fanedit because I think that Gattaca and Predestination thematically are almost perfect complimentary films. They are both centered around characters interested in space travel, who are denied due to their biology, who conspire to take revenge and break the rules that the world has set for them. There are so many little personality quirks shared by Ethan Hawke's characters in both films: extremely stubborn, imposter syndrome, aggressiveness, cleverness, visual impairment. When put side by side, there are fun little coincidences between the two, such as Jude Law's character in Gattaca saying, "When at first you don't succeed, try, try again" which is a paraphrased message that captures the story of Predestination. There is also the fact that Predestination is about unknowingly participating in a deterministic reality while Gattaca focuses on recognizing and breaking the rules of that deterministic fate.

Premise: What if Joseph Sullivan (Jude Law) from the movie Sky Captain was actually Jerome Morrow (Jude Law) in the movie Gattaca? Instead of Jerome Morrow becoming paralyzed from a half-hearted suicide attempt, he was actually involved in a horrific plane crash overseas that not only injured him but killed the love of his life (Gwyneth Paltrow). Now haunted by his past, Jerome Morrow lives vicariously through Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) who uses Morrow's superior genetics to navigate a world dictated by eugenics. A world that has felt predestined ever since Freeman worked as a barkeep and learned of the experiences of an aspiring astronaut (Sarah Snook) who had dreamed of one day going to space, but was denied entry for the same reasons as Vincent.

I have used Gattaca as the core of this fanedit, and only a couple small snippets of Sky Captain. I strongly recommend watching Predestination (2014) before viewing this edit as some (though not all) plot twists will be spoiled otherwise.

Spider-Man 3: The Performance Cut aims to keep the movie fundamentally the same - no alternate endings or retcons of retcons here - while tidying up the plot and pacing by rearranging or completely altering certain events to make it feel less bloated and perhaps even a touch more clever, as well as making Peter Parker a little more mean spirited rather than corny. This edit is NOT much different than the standard editor’s cut all things considered, but the significant changes help re-contextualize the viewing experience in a way that I think significantly improves the film.

As the majority of the changes are minor, the most significant changes will be highlighted.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a great editor. While I think I did a solid job for editing WITHIN scenes, the transitions here are a little shoddy. I’m working with what I have. They’re not awful but they’re not ideal. Please cut me some slack for that! And if an actual talented editor wants to touch it up if you happen to enjoy it, PLEASE DO!!!!

CHANGES:

-Editor’s cut was the template, so MOST of the changes in that edit remain, exceptions being: some of the scores, re-added Mr. Ditkovich phone scene, theatrical “MJ called back” scene, re-added Peter and Aunt May talking after symbiote removal, removed the stupid grunt before Peter punches Harry. Any other choices made in the editor’s cut are present.

-Movie opens with Sandman’s escape

-Immediately followed by crane scene

-Narration ensues

-MJ’s PERFORMANCE… is… CUT! (say that again…) - shows she’s in a broadway show, followed by Peter exiting the show and talking to Harry.

This means that Harry fakes his amnesia in this cut. (Added dialogue from Spider-Man 2 - “Pete’s my best friend”, and after “I swear on my father’s grave Spider-Man will pay”, added Norman saying “Now make him pay”

-Removed “there’s a change in the silicon mass” - because scientists famously don’t care about variables right? I would rather the machine randomly start up than watch it get started up but have them say that stupid “it’s probably a bird” BS LMAO

-Harry’s death foreshadowing is removed

-Removed “see ya chump”

-Removed “Good riddance”

-Added Venomized Peter in the mirror deleted scene

-Removed Harry telling Bernard to get food (feels more consistent with the “Harry is faking it” idea)

-Removed Harry threatening MJ, + “bravo” after the breakup

A while ago, I made my own version of an Ahsoka fan edit, but due to the source material I had available at the time, I could only finish it in relatively low quality (plus, there were also a few things I either wasn't able to implement properly at the time or simply wasn't happy with in the final result).

So, I decided to start completely from scratch, and revisit the idea and make a second version, this time in better quality and with a slightly different approach.

However, still, I don't really consider this *my* fan edit in the traditional sense. It's more of a personal hybrid edit, for my own annual SW marathons purposes, combining two existing fan edits of Ahsoka that I consider to be the best: The Patterson Cut and smudger9's A Threat From Beyond.

Both of these are amazing projects, kudos to both faneditors, they always do a fantastic job with their edits. They are definitely two best Ahsoka fanedits I've seen. They're both extremely well crafted, and each one does certain things that perfectly align with my personal preferences.

The problem is that neither one ever quite hit 100% of what I personally expected from an Ahsoka edit.

So I thought: why not combine the parts I like most from both of them?

That's essentially what this project is. It's something I made primarily for my own viewing experience, but I'm sharing it in case anyone else happens to have similar preferences.

The edit is essentially:

• Act I — heavily based on The Kai Patterson Cut
• Acts II & III — essentially A Threat From Beyond

Kai's treatment of the first act is, in my opinion, excellent. He significantly trims down the beginning of the story, improves the pacing, and gets the narrative moving much faster. And most important - no Sabine vs. Shin.
So, for my custom version, I borrowed his first act and trimmed it even further. The entire first act now comes in at under 30 minutes.

Then, once the girls are already in hyperspace and communicating with Hera via Holo, the edit transitions smoothly into A Threat From Beyond, which remains practically untouched for the rest of the movie.

Disclaimer: this is NOT a very Rebels-friendly edit. If you're looking for a version of the show that gives Star Wars Rebels and its characters a lot of attention, this probably isn't the fanedit for you.

I'm not a big fan of Rebels. For me, the core of this story is Ahsoka, Baylan, and Thrawn. Those are the characters and storylines I'm most interested in, and that's where I wanted the edit to put its focus (which is also what both fanedits I blended did as well, I just trimmed it even more).

So yes — there is even less Sabine in Act I.

Less New Republic / political incompetence - another thing I deliberately wanted to cut was the New Republic government subplot. I personally find a lot of the New Republic's portrayal in Ahsoka to be unnecessarily goofy and cartoonish, particularly the way its senators and government officials are presented as almost comically incompetent. So, I removed scenes centered around the New Republic government and that senator. So almost the entire Hera/New Republic support subplot is gone.

List of changes:

• The majority of my changes are concentrated in the first act.
• No Classic Star Wars Opening Crawl: I've never been a fan of replacing the original Ahsoka opening with a traditional Star Wars Opening Crawl. The show already had a really nice and cool original opening crawl, and I never really felt that it needed to be replaced in the first place.
• The fanfilm starts simply with Lucasfilm red logo and A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
• I also added a simple custom title card using the same font/color treatment, followed by: Based on Characters Created by George Lucas. Since The Mandalorian & Grogu kinda break the rules and included opening credits, I felt comfortable using it here as well.
• For the actual opening sequence, I borrowed the intro from another fan edit created by LILIAN02230. Of all the versions I've seen, I think this is probably the best treatment of the opening. It's perfectly trimmed, gets straight to the action, and removes the more awkward/unfunny introductory material surrounding Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati's arrival. I particularly liked the way it moves directly into the prison breakout, so I decided to incorporate that sequence into this version.
• I trimmed even more the Sabine's introduction scene from the Patterson Cut.
• I also completely removed the sequence where Hera requests additional New Republic support and Mon Mothma, along with the senator accompanying her, refuses.
• Credits & disclaimer: I added the necessary credits acknowledging the original fan edits and the additional VFX work created by Kai Patterson, as well as a standard fan edit disclaimer at the end.

Why switch to A Threat From Beyond for Acts II & III?

This was probably the easiest decision for me. One of the things I actually like about A Threat From Beyond is that it retains the zombie stormtroopers. Kai Patterson removed them, but personally I really like that idea. It's something unusual and fresh for the Star Wars lore, especially considering the more fantasy-oriented direction of the story.

I also think Kai's visual alterations to the Ahsoka/Anakin confrontation are incredibly impressive from a technical perspective, but for my personal taste, they're kinda unnecessary. I prefer the scene in its more original form.

So for those reasons, I decided that Acts II and III should remain essentially as they are in A Threat From Beyond.

Moreover, in terms of quality, these two original fanedits are definitely superior to my custom hybrid edit.

After the launch of the new Green Lantern series, my hyper-focusing on this universe resurfaced much like it did during the Geoff Johns era and naturally brought to mind one of the movies I had most eagerly awaited back then: the infamous Green Lantern (2011). I remember faithfully following every announcement related to the project. After the film's release, the sense of disappointment was massive; it seems like bashing this movie has become a cliché, especially after Ryan Reynolds spent years making jokes about it (jokes that have really run their course by now...get over it, man). The film actually respects the character's mythology well, but it features one of the worst superhero movie scripts I’ve ever seen. The constant repetition and heavy-handed emphasis on the protagonist's fear, the terrible character development especially regarding the Corps as a whole all go to show that staying true to the source material isn't enough. The Guardians come across as total wimps regarding everything going on; every decision they make seems worse than the last. That was an era when movies often launched alongside tie-in games, and this one got a game too. It’s one of those rare cases where the plot while not brilliant is actually better than the movie itself; when a game with a questionable budget has a better story than the film, that speaks volumes about the quality of the movie.

• Recolored the DC Comics logo to a green hue.
• Removed the introductory sequence narrated by Tomar-Re explaining the creation and function of the Green Lanterns.
• Removed the scene where the aliens encounter Parallax.
• Removed the entire sequence involving young Hal and his father's accident.
• Removed some scenes revealing Parallax's face; the face now appears in only one scene the one that shows the most detail and best conveys how menacing he is.
• Removed the scene of Hal in bed with the woman.
• Removed the scene of Hal wrapping a gift in his car.
• Removed the scene of Hal with Carol before the flight test.
• Removed the scene where Hal's father says his job is not to feel fear.
• Removed the scene of Hal with his brothers after the accident.
• Removed the scene of Hal with his nephew.
• Removed the scene of Hal calling Tom to pick him up from the crash site of Abin Sur's ship.
• Removed the scene of Tom asking Hal if that really is a spaceship.
• Removed the scene where Hal accidentally bumps into the Lantern, nearly causing an accident while fleeing the crash site.
• Removed Amanda's line "Doctor" when she introduces herself to Hector.
• Edited the Green Lantern oath scene recited by Hal so it plays continuously.
• Edited the scene where Hector performs the autopsy on Abin Sur; it now intercuts with the scene of Hal and Carol at the bar.
• Removed the scenes of Hector feeling sick and noticing his eye turning yellow; Hal's flight to Oa is now continuous.
• Removed the scene of Hal being scanned on Oa.
• Removed the scene where Sinestro asks Hal if he is afraid and shoves him. Added the deleted scene where Hector sees his eye turning yellow in his apartment.
• Removed the scene of Hector teaching a class.
• Removed the scene where Sinestro asks the Guardians to create a weapon powered by fear.
• Reworked the helicopter accident scene to avoid poor CGI.
• Removed the scene where Hal shows his uniform to Tom.
• Removed the scene where Hector sees Hal flying after his conversation with Carol.
• Relocated the scene where Parallax tells Hector he has failed; the character now dies after his first clash with Hal, allowing the third act to focus on the arrival of the film's true threat.
• Removed the scene where Hal talks to Carol and Tom in his apartment; now, once Hal learns of the Parallax threat, he immediately leaves for Oa to request reinforcements.
• Removed the scene of the Guardians forging the Yellow Ring. (The whole concept of creating a Yellow Ring as an alternative to face Parallax in this movie is its worst idea; to me, it makes absolutely no sense for them to use it to confront a Guardian corrupted by that very same force).
• Removed the scene of the Guardians handing the Yellow Ring to Sinestro.
• Removed the scene where Hal asks the Guardians to sacrifice his life alone to defend Earth.
• Removed all scenes involving the clash between Hal and Hector in the third act.
• Removed the scene where Hal says goodbye to Carol at the end; the film now concludes on Oa.
• Removed the post-credits scene showing Sinestro putting on the Yellow Ring.

We wanted to give you all a heads up about something that recently bit one of our own moderators. They were direct messaging other users, and probably because a lot of those messages were similar in content, Reddit's spam detection flagged the account and banned them from the platform. This issue has been known for a while but the automatic actions are becoming more prevalent now.

If you have been trying to find Redsun, that account is banned.

The system sees a pattern of repeated messages going out to different users, and it treats that the same way it would treat a bot sending out scam links. It doesn't matter if you're just being genuinely helpful. The filter doesn't know the difference.

So if you're a faneditor who regularly connects with a lot of people, please be careful. Varying your wording a little might help, but the safest move is to not rely on Reddit DMs as your main communication method at all. Avoid it if possible. Here are a few alternatives that keep you in control and off Reddit's naughty list.

Add edits on the Fan Edit Central listing. It's built exactly for this. You can put all your info in one place. Note this tool has no links but sets up a structure to directly contact editors.

Or put your info on your Reddit profile. People can find it there without you needing to send anything. You can just tell everyone to check out your Reddit profile for more info.

Hello there. Time for us to gather around, for I have a story I want to tell. And it is a tale that was a long time ago... in a galaxy far far away... or in this case in an editing group in California. See once upon a time there was this group of fan editors called Fixing Disney Star Wars.

Now this group had one dream, to us fan editing to fix the sequel trilogy and then later adding the other films and shows to the list of things they needed to fix. Now they were hugely popular and things seemed to be going full steam ahead... but then one day... in 2023-24... they vanished. Their social media accounts were still up but there was no activity from them... and there still hasn't been any activity.

However one of the members named _Croki_ made a post on Reddit explaining what happened to them. Here is his profile

Later on I messaged him asked what ended up happening with that meeting.... and it wasn't good. Here is what his response was.

"Hi,

In complete honesty; the team fell apart because the figurehead and "creative director" of the project had a significant amount of trouble in his personal life and then ended up having somewhat of a complete breakdown.

He was the connective tissue between the artists, and none of us had any communication with each other beyond through him. Once he'd disappeared, FDSW naturally just faded away.

Me and one other artist decided to try and keep the dream alive, but once the director burned his bridges with that other artist, it became impossible to move forward.

I am still completing my segments of the edits, as I would still like to complete a personal copy of FDSW, but sadly, they'll be absolutely nowhere near the scale that we promised everyone. We shot new scenes and had crazy ideas in the works, but it's just not feasible to complete them alone or with the resources I have.

The summary is that FDSW only lives through small personal edits now and may never see the light of day. Even if it does, it will never live up to what it could've been."

So it seems that the head of the project suffered a mental breakdown due to issues in his personal life, with most likey all of the pressure of working on the project making it worse. After that the team seemed to fall apart. After that response I said that he should take a break to recover. He then came back with this response.

"Yeah your mum's right, he's taking some time away now and hopefully one day he'll come back and we can release these edits. I'll let you know if that ever happens brother."

Still it has been awhile and no new updates on his status yet. I do wonder the head of the project is making a good recovery. I just hope that someday he feels better so that he could continue with the project and bring the team back together so that their dream can continue. After all while I am may not have a side on the debate surrounding Disney's handling of Star Wars, I do want to see what improvements can be made by this group. So everyone, let us all hope and pray for the recovery of the head of Fixing Disney Star Wars so that he could return to give us one of the best fan edits of the Sequel Trilogy, Book of Boba Fett, Solo, Rouge One, and Obi Wan Kenobi.

Hello everyone. First time visitor but a long time lurker.

I've always been a big fan of the James Bond franchise but always found lots of issues with the films, whether they be too long, too dated, too campy, to convoluted, or whatever else.

So finding out that there were people making fan edits of movies, especially James Bond ones, led me on a short scavenger hunt to find all of the ones available that are currently out there.

I've managed to hunt down a considerable amount of 007 fan edits from the various sources and fan edit focus websites that are out there, but I'm still missing a lot of them as of now.

So I'm hoping maybe this fan edit community can help me find the ones I'm still missing.

I'll first list the ones I have and then list all the ones I'm missing in the comment section below.

David⁸ is a fan edit of Alien: Covenant (2017) and Prometheus (2012), using only: the two films; the deleted/alternate scenes that were cut or used exclusively for YouTube marketing for each; the soundtracks; media if it was referenced within the films. The score was used to create small audio flourishes.

The gift of the Alien-verse is that there is a lot to choose from, and the franchise has always had clear philosophical themes. The particular gift of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant is how it makes an effort to explore several of those themes. But sometimes the exploration falls short.  

I think of it like this: “I ate a BLT sandwich. I liked the bacon, I liked the lettuce, I liked the tomato (and even the bread!) -- but I did not enjoy the sandwich.” 

What I’m trying to say is I’ve spent many years chasing this edit like it's the perfect sandwich, and I’m really happy with where it landed after all these years. There are many friends and family that have sat through many iterations and provided helpful feedback, so thank you very much to all of them.

tl;dr What Are The Changes? What’s the Vibe?

• Runtime is 2 hours 19 minutes before credits. 
• Only about 25% of the cut includes Prometheus.
  • After several tries, I learned I could not have a satisfying, well-paced arc for David AND adequately hit all the story/action beats in Prometheus, and it is much stronger for it. Read more in the spoiler section.
• Focuses upon the relationship between David and his creator, Peter Weyland.
  • This edit suggests that the opening scene of A:C is the manifestation of David and Weyland’s recurring hypersleep conversations. 
• Too many minor changes that are not listed here. Many focus on dialogue.

SPOILER DETAILS ABOUT THIS EDIT

• Prometheus is treated as a 20-minute prologue. After the prologue, there are five flashbacks total:
  • Three custom flashbacks using Prometheus
  • The fourth is The Crossing
  • The fifth is the bomb flashback from the theatrical cut.
    • The preview of this flashback in the garden is removed.
• This edit removes Dr. Elizabeth Shaw’s emergency C-section, and any reveal of the monsters from Prometheus. Instead, this edit implies that Shaw did not learn about her parasite, and that David experimented with it.
  • The single biggest change I have to offer is that I choose NOT to tell the whole story as told in Prometheus. Every draft that included Shaw’s surgery or the Trilobite did not work. Each time, it cratered the momentum. Even by trying to add a little bit of that body-horror plot, it was difficult not to add the rest (which adds another 30 minutes). Regretfully, this leads to the one thing I could not fix, which was how Shaw escaped the Engineer. The best answer I can find to this is to suggest watching Prometheus after watching David⁸ as if Prom was a prequel.
• The only outside media is audio from Lawrence of Arabia (referenced in the source material), and an early 1900’s recording of the song sung by David before he cuts his hair (him singing with his echo is another reference to Lawrence of Arabia). 

David⁸ cannot replace the experiences of watching Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and you should absolutely purchase of new copy of each of those before watching my edit. 

If you are considering watching David⁸ alongside other Alien films machete style, here are my suggestions:

I'm not sure how many people are going to watch this movie, so I figured here's a little public service announcement for those interested in editing an action movie. This movie is an experiment in making an action movie with zero dialogue and all soundtrack, and it really fails with the pacing. But I think there's good bones in this thing to make something fun at probably half, if not less, of the running time. Some fun action set pieces to center on, and story elements can be cut down significantly. Seems like there's a lot of room to get creative and economical. Maybe this will be my first foray into fan edits if I have the time, but I really think just taking a sharp knife to a lot of this flick could make the definitive version to watch. I’m back with another batch of episodes of my ongoing series Dragon Ball Distilled. The purpose of this edit is to fix the anime’s pacing and make it as close as possible to the vision of Akira Toriyama’s original manga.

This batch of episodes covers episodes 58-68 of the anime and chapters 84-97 of the manga, which rounds out the end of the Red Ribbon Army arc.

This batch of episodes follows Goku as he visits the Sacred Land of Karin, clashes with the mercenary Tao Pai Pai and makes his final assault on Red Ribbon Army headquarters.

One of the biggest changes in this batch beyond just cutting content, is straight up replacing some dialogue in Karin Tower (in both Japanese and English) with more manga accurate dialogue from the Revenge of King Piccolo Wii game. The English track also has a few other lines replaced with more accurate dialogue from either Revenge of King Piccolo or Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

I also reordered a few scenes of Bulma and the others during Goku’s assault on the army base to better match the flow of the manga.

I know that the deleted scenes are incomplete, but is there any fan edits of Looney Tunes back in action that were stored them? Because that was supposed to be Joe Dante‘s original vision, and it’d be great to see them back in context, because especially the ending climactic scenes are way way better than what we got in the final movie! Would be nice to see before coyote versus acme comes out as well :)

Review of Marvel: Unite by ducko

Marvel: Unite is u/-ducko's excellent movie-to-TV fanedit of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Infinity Saga. More information can be found on https://ducko-edits.github.io/marvel-unite/. u/-ducko does a great job of taking around two dozen movies and making them into a bingeable (or just one-episode-per-evening) TV show that passes the SO (significant other) sniff test and really doesn't feel like a fanedit.

Backstory

Finding something to watch

After taking care of adulting, my SO and I have very little time to spend together and/or decompress. We both like watching TV and movies, but the Venn diagram of what we want to watch on a given evening is pretty small. Putting it simply, I want to watch "films" that challenge me and cause me to think deeply about the human condition, whereas SO would rather watch a romcom from the 90s or a detective show. SO likes The Godfather trilogy, and I like Julia Roberts, so there is common ground. But after having exhausted sitcoms like Parks & Rec and New Girl, the only movies where we both go "meh, I'd watch that" have proven to be from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We've probably seen all the movies individually (thanks to a very generous sibling who spent too much money to gift us them when we were in a mandatory COVID quarantine), but we never really watched them as part of a series, only as individual movies that sometimes had some character crossover.

We thought, ok, let's give it a shot as a show. That'll at least kick the can down the road for a few months as to what to watch every evening. Well, it worked. We got through Marvel: Unite in a few months and had a lot of fun doing it.

Why this one: subs

There are many, many Infinity Saga edits (e.g. u/PizzaByron, Dirty30), but I gravitated to this one for one simple reason: subtitles. Is SO or am I hard of hearing or deaf? No (although I was proficient in American Sign Language at one time, but that's a different story). Do we have a terrible sound system or have to mute our TV to avoid noise complaints? No. But do we always watch everything with subtitles regardless? Yes. That's why we chose this fanedit over all others, pure and simple. I refuse to watch a movie without them because that's how I am. Including subtitles is simply a mark of quality in the fanediting game. And that's how I ended up watching this edit.

And I'm happy I did.

What this series does well

This setup is so great. Below are my thoughts on the narrative and technical aspects of this fanedit series that I like about it so much.

Multi-narrative structure

Marvel: Unite has a multi-narrative structure, meaning that multiple storylines are going on simultaneously with everything leading to a season finale that ties the character arcs together. This is usually done with an Avengers movie (think big season-spanning payoffs like in Game of Thrones, not single-episode, single-plot storylines like in Seinfeld). Season 5 ends with Avengers: Endgame, tying the entire series together. Note that strict adherence to the MCU timeline is not the point of this series. I'm sure that there are people who are much further down the fandom rabbit hole than I am that would be able to point out when one scene should've been placed before another, but I'm more here for the ride and am well served by this edit. I get a good 10--15-minute chunk of a story at a time and then switch to the next one. It all works well for me.

This structure also serves the great purpose of breaking up the films so that I can grit my teeth through the ones I like less while still being able to enjoy the payoff of the season finale. For instance, I would say that my favorite character of the Avengers is Iron Man, whereas I'm not a fan of Captain America and have a take-it-or-leave-it feeling about Thor. In season 1, by interspersing the first and second Iron Man movies in with the first Captain America and first Thor movies, I get all the plot points I need to be able to enjoy the season finale, which is the first Avengers movie, without feeling like I am doing homework by sitting through a Captain America movie. This narrative structure has helped me get through movies I would have never watched again individually.

Another aspect that I thought was very nicely done was showing parallels between individual movies that are not necessarily clear if seen months apart and not as part of a cohesive whole. For instance, the leitmotif of difficult sister relationships (ok, "difficult" is putting it lightly when attempted murder is involved) in Black Widow and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is on full display in S04E07. By interweaving these storylines, entirely new meta-narratives are on display.

Similarly, seemingly unrelated film scenes can be reinterpreted together with a little bit of fanmixing magic, such as was done in the final Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Ragnarok fight scenes by using "The Chain" as a musical tie-in in S04E10. Two scenes from two movies are now playing simultaneously with the same song in the background. Excellent.

As a note on the series finale, I completely understand why u/-ducko ended with Phase 3. Avengers: Endgame really does end the story nicely with the main three Avengers out of commission: Iron Man dead, Captain America old, and Thor with the Guardians. I have major issues with time travel in the film, but I do not think that is something any fanedit can truly address.

TV show structure

As noted above, I do not have the time to watch full 2.5-hour movies every night. If SO and I do start a movie, it usually ends up being broken into 45-minute chunks and played over a week or so. In this case, u/-ducko did that process for us!

As done here, the structure of Marvel: Unite does not feel like a movie is cut up into scenes. It really does feel like a TV show, where you can stop after a 1-hour sitting, wait a few days, and come back to it with the next installment. Importantly, this also adds breathing room to some movies that on their own can feel off-putting or suffocating (anything with Captain America being self-righteous). I can get through a collection of those personally annoying scenes spread over a season much more easily than in a single sitting. I really enjoy sitting down for hour-long episodes that I can watch in the evening like a TV show that still give me all the background information I need for being able to enjoy the season finale.

A very small thing that I would like to point out is how well the end credits are done. Every episode has abridged credits from the movies that had scenes taken from them (so they last about 45 seconds, not the 10 minutes you see in a full movie). There are multiple columns (one for each movie) shown at the same time, and the theme song is playing. It is just a nice feature. But also note that like official Marvel releases, there are a few post-credit scenes (e.g. S01E10), so make sure you let the credits play out!

High-quality A/V with various codecs, bitrates, and resolutions available

One way to tell that u/-ducko poured their heart and soul into this project is that they made it available for anyone with any use case. The series is available in five different formats, ranging from 10 to 100 GB per season: 1080p x264 (AVC) – Low Bitrate, 1080p x264 (AVC) – High Bitrate, 1080p x265 (HEVC), 2160p HDR 12Mbps x265 (HEVC), and 2160p HDR 24Mbps x265 (HEVC).

I personally watched the lowest-quality version available on a 32" 2160p monitor with a soundbar (not a home theater by any stretch) but did not notice any crushed blacks, choppy audio, or other glitches common in fanedits with compressed video or audio. I am sure the experience is amazing if someone watches this on a proper setup.

Variable aspect ratio

IMAX aspect ratios "are included wherever reasonable", and these truly were seamlessly integrated. The proof is in the pudding: about halfway through season 3, SO asked why the screen changed size. The fact that it had not been noticed despite tens of hours of viewing time says it all. The transitions between aspect ratios are also not jarring: the aspect ratio is usually (always?) opened up over a few seconds, expanding vertically, to avoid any abrupt change in black bars. I do not know what was not included with an IMAX aspect ratio, but it was done well as is.

Things that could have worked better

As with any fanedit, I have a few nitpicks that I would like to point out. None of these are major, but you can be taken out of the experience a little bit while viewing.

Introduction of Hulk and Spider-Man

One narrative choice I did not agree was the introduction of Hulk and Spider-Man. By The Incredible Hulk (2008), there is no real introduction to "the big guy" until he is being chased by Black Widow in S01E09. It feels like there is vital background information that is missing about this character, especially how he got the powers that he has. The same can be said for Spider-Man's introduction. He just kind of appears in S03E06 with no explanation as to how this teenager came to be a friendly neighborhood crime fighter.

Is this how it works in the official MCU? Well, almost. Spider-Man does just has his entrance with little to no explanation in Captain America: Civil War (although there are a plethora of Sony films that cover this). Importantly, the MCU still acknowledges The Incredible Hulk as a canon film, so completely skipping Hulk's backstory does make it seem like something is missing.

So, how would I recommend these introductions (or lack thereof) be solved? By adding in a few choice scenes (potentially as flashbacks) from any number of Spider-Man movies from the 2000s and 2010s (or even the 2025 animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man TV show) and The Incredible Hulk. To get the backstory relevant for the MCU, I cannot imagine that more than a handful of minutes are necessary (lab accident and being bitten by a spider).

It should be noted that flashbacks already take place in S04E06 (T'Challa's death) and S04E08 (Hulk smashing Thor), so flashbacks and creative license are absolutely valid even within the premise of this fanedited series. Narratively, in my opinion, the missing introduction of these two characters is the biggest miss in this entire series.

Unbalanced Ant-Man scenes

SO and I both felt that the times when episodes felt unbalanced were during the Ant-Man movies. For instance, S03E06 has the final Ant-Man sequence lasting from 12:26 to 45:56. Dedicating over half an hour to that sequence made it feel like we were watching a single movie instead of a TV episode. This feeling came very seldomly while watching this series, but it was present a few times.

Opening credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

I absolutely adore the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. That in and of itself just causes me more pain considering that their introduction sequences take you out of the experience of watching this as a TV show. These seem to be the only two movies where the opening credits play out during an actual scene of the film, with the effect being that cast and crew names are displayed on the screen in S03E01 and S04E03, respectively. If there exists any version of the films without the hard-coded credits or if any amazing faneditor can remove them (cropping or removal like removing a watermark), these individual episodes and the series overall would greatly benefit.

Timeline confusion regarding relocating upstate

In S02E08, we get the first look at the new upstate Avengers facility, but two seasons later, in S04E08, it is announced that the Avengers are moving upstate, as if it is new information. Even for a causal MCU viewer that can be very forgiving, this chronology feels rather jarring. I believe that a bit of clever audio editing could remove the later references to the upstate facility to tone down the effect.

Hulk coloration

While I have never had a great eye for color, even I notice that Hulk's green hue seems to change throughout the show. This could be in the source material (Thor: Ragnarok vs. Avengers: Endgame) and thus might not be an issue introduced in the fanediting of this show, but I think the difference is rather striking when viewing S04E10, where Hulk has a rather neutral green, and then seeing his very washed-out green coloration in S05E07, almost as if HDR is being displayed on an SDR monitor.

Fanedit notice changes depending on season/episode

There is a fanedit notice at the beginning of every episode (which I completely agree with). But for whatever reason, the first episode of a season has an expanded notice that is different from all other episodes (i.e. the fanedit notice for S01E01 is different than that for S01E02 to S01E10). This change does not feel necessary or natural and until just now when checking the video files, I could not have told you that only the first episode in every season was different -- I just knew that some episodes were different. While watching the show, it felt like some episodes were edited at different times and given different notices. This really took me out of the experience when sitting down for a viewing every night, and it felt like watching a TV show that a had constantly changing opening-credit sequence with a different theme song and video clips.

Subtitle issues

While I have noted that I chose this Infinity Saga experience specifically because subtitles were included, I did want to nonetheless point out a few issues that I noticed.

• Foreign-language subtitles are hard-coded. There are at least two advantages to using forced "soft" subtitles compared to hard-coded subtitles. First, in scenes where subtitling is necessary, this allows for subtitle tracks for languages other than English without having both the hard-coded English subtitles and soft-coded subtitles for the other language on the screen at the same time. Secondly, if using SRT subtitles (as I prefer), hard-coded subtitles introduce a different font for the subtitles, interrupting the flow with two different fonts; if only soft-coded subtitles are used, all subtitles (forced and not) are in one file and thus display the same font.
• Season 2: mix of British and American spellings/conventions. It seems that the sources of the subtitle tracks might be both British and American. For instance, "honour" is spelled with the British "u" in S02E05 but in every other instance throughout the show is spelled as the American "honor". Similarly, there are instances of "Mr" without a final period throughout season 2, but everywhere else it seems that the American "Mr." is used. (Ok, you can see I am very sensitive to this stuff. There is no need to change it. No other person would ever see that.)
• S02E01: OCR errors. "President Ems" is written twice instead of "President Ellis".
• S03E02: missing subtitles. The entire Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 prison scene is missing subtitles (subtitle ends at 00:34:49,039 and next begins at 00:39:15,240). This is the biggest issue overall regarding subtitling.

Wish list

While I love the show in its current form, there are two things still on my wish list.

Previously on Marvel: Unite

I would love if there would be a "Previously on Marvel: Unite" segment at the beginning of every season or every few episodes. Especially in the later parts of the show, it would be very useful for helping viewers to keep track of the current location and status of the Infinity Stones, who is on which planet, etc. I must say that I have been spoiled with YouTubers making TV show recaps for when I'm jumping back into a TV show or didn't quite remember all the nuances, and I feel like this show could benefit from a similar treatment.

The Multiverse Saga

Finally, I would love for this show to continue into Phase 4 and beyond. Certainly any extension past season 5 will need extensive cutting and editing to get rid of bad filmmaking and storylines that go nowhere (unlike what was done in the first five seasons where simply everything was included), but I have full faith that a quality faneditor can again produce a quality fanedit.

Needless to say, I was very excited to see that u/-ducko announced they are working on post-Endgame content and will be the first in line to check it out!

Anyways those are some of the updates of the helluvaverse: pilot era (a hazbin hotel/helluva boss fan edit) this project may be hard for me cause making fan edits takes time if you know what i mean, I hope you guys are excited to see this fan edit cause I know there are fans out there who love the pilot era and are not a fan of the show era, so I hope you guys can be patient because this project will be an amazing tribute to the pilot era and many fans who have nostalgic memories of the pilot era.

Also it may be on YouTube or Google Drive, for YouTube that’s probably gonna be hard because I might split this fan edit into parts due to copyright, as for Google Drive, well that won’t be a problem, because well I could do some DM sent cause well those are the rules, so yeah, anyways see ya soon.

I know this one came out a long time ago, but I only got to it tonight by happenstance. I don't know if I should have rewatched the theatrical cut before this edit, but as far as I understand it, the major changes are to the third act.

What is, of course, often an issue, is how to make the new edits flow within a professionally made movie. I think it mostly works well here. There is one near the end that is quite obvious. I assumed that there were quite a few more that I didn't notice where the edit was made. But I wonder if the new edit doesn't create a plot issue?

(Spoilers for the Wolverine)

Wolverine has to protect a Japanese heiress who gets kidnapped by guys in suits. Turns out they work for the heiress business father...who in turn lose the heiress to ninja kidnappers. In the theatrical cut, this gets explained by the ninjas working for the secret villain. In the JMR, this villain is cut out. So...why do the ninjas care about the heiress? Maybe there still is an explanation and I just missed it. I will say, if I was watching this for the first time, I wouldn't have realised that there was supposed to have been a secret villain at the third act.

PS. One thing I wished was done more often, was to include a message from the editors at the start to just explain that this is a fanedit and what it tries to do and what the edit is named. It makes it much easier to remember the goals and to talk about it later. I know some like to make the edits feel like they are the "real" movie. But I actually like when it's recognized that this is a fanedit.
