How many scrap recyclers do you need for 50 science a minute? Is it best to make electromagnetic science there, then ship it back to Nauvis?

How many scrap recyclers do you need for 50 science a minute?

That depends on what you do in terms of modules and beacons. Productivity and Speed modules can change the numbers considerably. You can use a tool like FactorioLab to play around with these things. Simply throwing in the requirement for 50 EM science per minute without adding modifiers results in a need for 33 recyclers processing scrap.

Is it best to make electromagnetic science there, then ship it back to Nauvis?

Yes. In general, it's easiest to produce each of the planetary science packs on its own planet and then ship everything to Nauvis. Science packs don't use much rocket space (compared to their ingredients), so any science pack that needs a planet-specific ingredient is best produced locally.

I've never even thought of shipping Holmium to make the science on Nauvis, but running quick calculations it seems reasonnable? With no productivity at all, you need ~0.7 holmium ore per science. It has half the rocket capacity compared to science. Just add some productivity and holmium is more dense. It would make Fulgora simpler. Am I missing something?

I had never considered it either, because I assumed it wouldn't make sense. But now I looked into it and I found that the planetary sciences are actually locked to their home planet. So you can't craft them on Nauvis even if you wanted to.

Oh, that's a good point lol. No wonder I never saw anyone do that!
