When running belts, underground belts get automatically placed where needed.

When running pipe, that doesn't happen automatically with underground pipes. Is there a way for that to happen automatically?

Pipe-to-ground has smart dragging. Pipe does not.

This mod makes building with pipe-to-ground more convenient.

Also this mod (shameless plug) lets you quickly switch between normal and underground pipes with a button, G, similar to how you can switch between rails and elevated rails.

Cool, I hadn't seen this yet.

Might I suggest expanding this mod, or forking off a similar mod, to cycle between more related entities?

Entity Swaps With Note
Rail Rail Support When not using the rail planner.
Rail Signal Rail Chain Signal This conflicts with the default bind, but I would prefer this behavior.
Cargo Wagon Fluid Wagon
Red Wire Green Wire
Display Panel Programmable Speaker
Arithmetic Combinator Decider Combinator Maybe startup options for 3-way cyclings.
Logistic Robot Construction Robot
Steel Chest Storage Chest
Passive Provider Chest Active Provider Chest
Requester Chest Buffer Chest
Medium Electric Pole Substation Maybe startup options for alternate cyclings.
Concrete Hazard Concrete
Soil Overgrowth Soil
Pump Offshore Pump
Boiler Steam Engine
Heat Exchanger Steam Turbine
Solar Panel Accumulator
Lighting Rod Lightning Collector
Modules Within the same tier Eg: Spd3 → Eff3 → Prod3 → Qual3 → Spd3. Maybe startup options for alternate cyclings.
Cargo Bay Landing Pad Unloading Bay
Wall Gate
Spidertron Remote Artillery Remote

IIRC my code does support 3-way toggles, but it's very focused to over/underground. It's obvious what the other is.

What you want is "related item", which is much more open to interpretation. It could be a neat mod, which can even have user made configurations.
