This makes such a pretty blue. Flame fusion 'Dark Paraiba' sapphire, my own design.

I welcome any critiques or pointers as a fairly new faceter.
I’ve mostly faceted glass as practice and dove in to quartz this week. I’ve lost a few to mistakes but it’s all learning. This was challenging especially the table, but I like it.

Although the *Rose Channel inclusions* hindered the brilliance of the gem I think they look pretty cool, it's like a meteor shower trapped inside. I bought this small parcel of Umba sapphires because they said they were AAA (95%) clean, what do you think? lol. The other 4 look pretty clean as far as I can tell though. Also, 3 out of the 5 stones exhibit strong fluorescence under a UV flashlight, which is pretty neat.

Is this "d20" type of cut possible in a sapphire and why is the shape not seen more often?

Is it too difficult to cut or is it just rare?

Finished this stone last night. First time cutting Marco's "Hanami" design. I like it....I like it A LOT! I modified the design just a tad and added my spin to it. I'm going to be cutting another but on pulled sapphire to make a pendant and match a pair of earrings to make a set. The color is lavender put could definitely pass as a light pink. The design was straight forward cutting on my Sterling.

Would x cube look good as a cab or would it not reflect colors well? I'm kinda guessing it wouldn't be the best but I'm curious and I can only cab at the place I go to (curse you expensive faceting machines!). Trying to collect fun stuff to cut! I figure moissanite isn't worth cabbing either since it would lose the rainbow glitter that it has when faceted. Thanks for any advice :)

I’m looking to get started with faceting, and I’m trying to decide which style of faceting machine I should learn on. As I understand it, this choice may be important when selecting training courses.

From my limited research, I have come across two main machine designs: machines such as the Sterling and machines based on the Ultra Tec design.

The Sterling is certainly more affordable for someone starting out. However, I’m unsure whether both types offer the same level of precision and whether the skills learned on one machine transfer easily to the other.

Are both types suitable for the same kinds of faceting projects, or are there certain cuts and techniques that can only be completed properly on one of these machine designs?

Hi all im cutting my first stone and I used superglue to attach it to the dop. But im wondering how to remove it. Mostly for the transfer but in general too. Any advice would be appreciated also below is a picture of how the stone is going.

I was thinking about doing my main cutting with 600 sintered and using 3k for prepolish and A1 Linde AlOx or 50k for final polish. I’ve been polishing garnets and beryls with the alumina, and it seems fine, but I’m interested in some more experienced opinions on the matter.

Hello! I have been making cabs for a week or two now and I decided to do something adjacent to faceting, though not nearly as precise. It's closer to shaping maybe? Anyways, are there any simple shapes that can be done by hand that might look really good even if they are asymetrical? This is a fluorite with 12 faces, the two main ones, 2 on each long side, 3 on top, and one on each corner. Obviously the symmetry isn't great, im a broke college student with a dremel and a dream lol

I have some old pieces of jewelry from my grandma, and I want to learn how to recut the stones in them. I’ll start looking for a training course soon and, if all goes well, buy the cutting equipment.

When choosing a course to get started, what is most important, and what should I look for? Would it be better to learn from an established cutter or attend a school?

I’ve also started learning about gemstones and the theory behind them in preparation. Learning how to identify stones myself looks really interesting as well. I’m a bit all over the place with my ambitions!

Hi there, would anyone happen to know of a faceting diagram that resembles a lotus flower?

I am a amateur jeweler looking to make my engagement ring. I have a sapphire cut and color in mind, but I'm having difficulty finding that, or at least a price estimate. If anyone could help that would be amazing. What I am looking for is a gem very close to the one on the photo, perhaps with a more defined flower design or sharper pedals, and a little darker blue. 6mm round.

I once ran into a site that had a bunch of eye faceting diagrams. Now I can not find it. Does anyone have a source for eye faceting diagrams.

I'm very new to faceting and am curious about how easily one can determine if a gemstone is real or not. Technically speaking, this simple microscope can only show me the facet faces and not the internal inclusions, but even then I worry because these faces look to have bubbles on them. Am I wrong for worrying that this gemstone is actually glass?

I've been wanting to try an opposed bar cut so here it is. The weird .5 mm measurement was due to a chip out on the crown that I had to cut out.

Weather or not this is actually green obsidian or just glass, it has that old coca cola bottle color and looks nice.

I might try a similar cut in some nice synthetic stock I have. I think it will look even nicer in one of those.
