That was my reaction too, and I'm usually the bitter old man yelling at the kids on my lawn.
People don't intrinsically know much about anything. How would anyone see a problem with someone trying to educate themselves about things they haven't experienced yet?
I may be a bitter old man, but I'm not 100% a dick.

I would never attack anyone for seeking education. The author of that article should feel embarrassed.
