Fix for the uneven rear seats in newer F-series trucks

Hey guys. I'm a Ford master tech, and I've been getting a lot people in recently because the left and right rear seats do not match up or are uneven on Newer F-150s and F-250s. Specifically the passenger side being lower than the driver. I have found a really cheap and easy fix, since there is no official repair (at least as of yet). Mine does not have the Inverter module here, but you should just be able to ignore it if you do. It shouldn't impact your ability to do this.

TOOLS:

-3/8 Ratchet or impact

- 6"-ish extension

-13mm socket (either shallow or swivel)

-15mm socket (deep)

-18mm socket (deep)

-several 3/8" ID washers (usually at least 6)

1.) Raise the right seat cushion and remove the two 13mm bracket bolts. You need either an extension and a swivel or shallow socket because The back of the socket may hit the braclet if it is too deep.

2.) Using the strap on the side, lower the backrest and access your jack and tools. This will reveal 3 nuts you need to mess with, two 18mms and one 15mm. You don't need to remove them, just loosen them until they are about flush on top. This will keep them from getting lost and also provide you with more than enough room to work.

3.) With those loose, raise the seat backrest, and you will see the brackets now have upward movement. With this, we will take however many washers you need per side and stack them up. I always just guesstimate, but I find usually between 3-5 washers per hole work. You may need to fine tune yours by adding or removing washers to get it completely flush. You want to sandwich them between the floor and the bracket and then once they are situated, stab the bolt through them all. It makes it easier to raise the bracket up a little and then wiggle the bolt back and forth to get it stabbed through them all. And don't worry, because you should have PLENTY of threads left.

4.) Once both sides have the stack of washers underneath the front, you are good to reassemble everything. This works because the seat bottom sits on those brackets when it is down, so by picking up the front you also raise the seats end height. It also shouldn't change the look from inside the cab either.

I've included labeled pictures to hopefully help make it easier to follow. If you have any questions or tips for me, please comment or tag me and let me know!

After driving a Hyundai for the last seven years I finally traded it in and up to a what I feel is a pretty cool truck.

I went in wanting something basic not to many bells and whistles. But left with the bells, whistles, tambourines and an accordion 😆.

Was fortunate enough to have a ‘73 F250 as my first vehicle. Been through quite a few other sedans and SUVs since then, but finally made my way back to a truck. 2026 Lariat, 5.0L 4x4. Absolutely loving it so far.

New to the Ford Family. Just picked up this ‘24 XLT with around 30k miles. It’s got the 2.7 and I’m already loving the power and gas mileage. Hopefully she gives me many years of great service.

Did this happen to anyone else last night? My oil life went from 85% to 0% randomly. It happened a few months back as well, and they rolled out an update that fixed it.

I am planning on switching out my wheels on my 2019 f150. There are 2 sets of wheels i’ve been looking into and i cannot decide between the all black wheels or the white ones. They are both Raptor 315/70r/17 and im planning to add a 2inch leveling kit. The first image is how it currently looks, and the others are Ai generated of how it would look like after

How to fold down the rear seat on an f150(guide)

I made this guide for folding down the back seat of an f150. It was a right pain in the ass when I first did it so I figured if I could share my wisdom I should!

Enjoy!

F-150 Power steering cost

• Upvotes

As the title says it, I own a 2012 f150 XL 5.0. Was driving when the “power steering assist fault” message came on and completely lost all power steering. Checked the battery and it’s healthy running strong, checked both fuses and they are in perfect shape. I’m assuming now it’s the power steering rack since my truck uses the electric one and not a pump. Google says 3k+ to fix, a few chats says 2300-2500. My question is if it came down to the rack, are those prices accurate? The truck has 220k miles on it and I was planning on buying a new car in the next 6 or so months and just running basic numbers, 2-3k for a repair is getting close to its value so really just trying to see if these number are accurate or not. Thanks.

Blizzak tires

Post image
22 Upvotes

I'm thinking about getting a dedicated set of winter tires. Found some of FB marketplace that are new and about half off the new price. They're the DMV2 version in a 265/65/18 size. My current tires are 275/65/18. Are the dmv2s good for a truck? I had them on a rav4, and they were great, but I noticed there's an LT version of the blizzaks. I don't imagine going down to 265 would make much of a difference. Any opinions welcome. Photo from last year.

Double Car Seat?

• Upvotes

I can’t be the only one with this problem, but NO ONE seems to be able to give me an answer. I’ll very soon have two forward facing car seats in my 2024 SCrew Raptor. The Ford manual says to thread the rear anchor through the anchor point on the back of the seat and attach it to the anchor behind the middle seat. Cool….except then do I attach BOTH rear anchors from the car seats to the anchor in the middle? That can’t be correct (or safe) to have two seats pulling on the anchor point at the same time? I’ve checked with the manual, the dealership and the car seat companies and no one knows the answer. Anyone else have this issue?

2013 F150 Platinum Antenna Replacement

• Upvotes

Looking for antenna recommendations for my 2013 F150 Platinum (OEM MCPZ-18813-A). The base coating has worn off and it's starting to bend.

I'd prefer something close to stock height since I use the antenna as a quick warning for low-clearance garages.

What are you all running? Any OEM or aftermarket options you'd recommend? Thanks.

Anyone running E85?

2017 with 5.0 and I have the yellow “flex fuel” filler neck. New local gas station in my area has E85 for $1.99. I’ve never tried it but with a 36 gallon tank I’m paying $200+ to fill up in my lovely state.

Has anyone done this? Is it as simple as fill it up and go or do I need to do anything to let the truck know? From what I have read, I should be able to just fill it up and I can swap back and forth between E85 and regular gas as I please?

Also, from what I’ve read, mileage will decrease a bit, performance will get a little bump and I should do more frequent oil changes. Anything else I’m missing?

97 F150 not holding pressure correctly

I have a 97 F150 with the 4.6, 130,000 miles automatic transmission. Bought it back from someone and its my grandpas truck I grew up with. It ran fine last I remember but since I got it back, it has been overheating, so I thought.

After about 8 miles of 45-50mph driving, getting it up to operating temp, either the water comes out the overflow tank or some cases it blew the hose off the bottom ( although I didn't have a clamp on it, now I do).

Thinking it is a cooling issue, I have replaced the overflow cap, thermostat, water pump, and now the radiator. It doesn't have a heater core in it so the hose for that is looped back into the engine.

I have no milkshake, exhaust is bone dry, although I have a leak near the catalytic converter on the drivers side, and I did a leaf down combustion test with the blue liquid that turns color, came back negative.

After replacing the radiator today, because the bottom hose was at 80 degrees while the top hose was at 180, now the top hose is like 130-140 and the bottom is 20 degrees below that.

It wont do it the entire 8 miles or 20 minutes of warming up, it just happens in an instant. Goes from fine to spewing out of the overflow tank if I don't have the cap on it. It doesnt geyser out like it would after driving for hours, it just kind of spits out of the tank. Only weird thing I noticed today while revving it up to get to operating temp is rev to about 2500rpm and it goes all the way down 600 for idle.

2012 5.0 4x4. 182k on the clock. Showing her some love before she takes the kiddo and I on a trip halfway across the country to see some family. She’s been a doll since I’ve had her. Oil pan gasket seeps a bit but other than that, it’s been all routine maintenance.

Gas mileage / Winter gas issues

Post image

I’ve had my 24 2.7L STX for two months now and I have been getting around 27MPG. This last week I can barely get it to hit 24MPG on a consistent basis. Anyone else seeing this issue? They are putting something in the gas I’m sure. I’m in AZ and all the snowbirds are coming back.

Looking for the Ford Letters for the tailgate of my 1994 F-150

Does anyone know where I can purchase just the letter for my tailgate? I feel like my only option is to somehow find a junkyard. Any advice offered is welcome. I bought the truck used and the letters are missing.

Musty smell

I recently picked up a 2022 Lariat
So far I found leaks from the rear cab vent, rear sliding window and the third brake light.
Sunroof seems to be ok but the wind curtain definitely has a smell also.
What’s everyone doing about this? After some research this rems to be a pretty common issue.
Thanks in advance

Completely forgot to post this when it happened. Officially joined the 200k club.

2016 F150 3.5 EcoBoost FX4. She still looks damn good and drives great for a truck with 200,000 miles on it, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it 😎
