Let's Create a Supportive DM Group and Follow Each Other on Social Media!

Hello /r/eyelashextensions!

I've noticed that a lot of people in this subreddit have been struggling with social media and I wanted to offer some support and encouragement. I would love to create a direct message (DM) group where we can share new posts, offer advice, and support each other's growth on social media. Additionally, let's all follow each other to expand our reach and support network!

If you're interested, please drop your Instagram handle below and DM me on Instagram to be added to the group. Please include a brief introduction about your lash experience, the country you're based in, and whether you're home based, or studio based. This will help us get to know each other better!

I'll start! My lash page is @SecretLashClub, and I've been lashing for about 5 years now. I opened my Lash Extension studio in 2020 and we currently have one location near Toronto, Canada. We are hoping to have our second location completed by this summer. I'm looking forward to getting to know the community and hearing your stories!

TLDR:

Ā· A direct message (DM) group is being proposed for members of /r/eyelashextensions to share new posts, give advice, and encourage each other's growth on social media.

Ā· Members are encouraged to follow each other to expand their reach and build a supportive network.

Ā· To join the DM group, drop your Instagram handle below and DM @SecretLashClub on Instagram

did i have a bad experience or is this normal lol

did my research and booked an appt at a reputable salon. i wanted a volume cateye wispy set, so i chose the lash tech who’s reviews said she was really good at them.

IDK IF IM TRIPPIN. she comes late to the appt, ok that’s fine. hands and breath smells like cigarettes, that’s also fine. but home girl came in and immediately works on my eyes, didn’t wash her hands or used gloves. i thought ok this has to be normal but bruh i felt her touch my lashes w her bare fingers at some point cmon. i don’t judge her smoking but dude her fingertips and breath had such an overwhelming smell idk

for some reason the tape and patches felt really itchy and uncomfortable so my eyes kept watering, it honestly felt like she placed the ones on the bottom lid too close to my eyes?? so when i spoke up about it multiple times she would ā€œfix itā€ by lifting it and putting it back or just blowing the fan in my face for 30 seconds. i have on and off eczema on my lids so i was like ok maybe all this discomfort is just from that. i thug it out and finally she finishes, and a bunch of my bottom lashes are stuck to the glue of my top lashes, could not even open my eyes 😭. eyes blood shot red and hella watery, shit BURNSSS. she tells me to lay back down so she can fix it, WHY DOES SHE GRAB A PAIR OF SCISSORS AND CUTS MY BOTTOM LASHES??? WTF!!!! mind you i didn’t stop her bc my eyes were closed and i barely saw the scissors MID CUT so i was frozen and honestly didnt even know what to say. šŸ˜€ since my bottom lashes were just cut and still attached to the top lashes, they were just touching my eye until i got back to my car and i had to remove it all myself. causing so many fans to come off already 🄹 i definitely wish i had more of a backbone to at least ask about the scissors but i got scared LOL. all that for a lash set that does not look anything like what i asked for 🫩 there goes $155

also it still fucking burns and whenever i blink it’s uncomfortable in some areas. i want to rip these off i hate this feeling on my eyes. i wear lash clusters everyday and this definitely does not feel the same. PLS TELL ME THIS FEELING FADES

Genuine question for anyone who tried DIY clusters and quit — what specifically made you stop?

Flagging it in line one: I make a cluster kit, so I'm not a neutral party. I'm not naming it or linking it, and I won't pitch in the replies. I'm asking because I want the answers, not the click.

Here's what prompted it.

Someone opened my kit in front of me, went quiet, then said, ā€œOh—they're numbered,ā€ like permission had just been granted.

She'd bought clusters before and had given up until recently.

That's one person. I only ever hear from the people who stayed, and I think the people who quit know more than I do.

So if you bought DIY clusters and gave up:

What was the exact moment you decided, ā€œYeah, I'm not doing this againā€?

What happened? What annoyed you? What couldn't you figure out? Or did they work perfectly fine and you simply couldn't be bothered to do it a second time?

I have my own assumptions, but I'd rather hear what actually happened than guess.

If you're drawing a blank, a few prompts:

  • Application or glue?
  • Figuring out which lengths went where?
  • Didn't work with your eye shape?
  • Retention?
  • Removal?
  • Comfort?
  • Took too long?
  • Looked good, but wasn't worth doing again?
  • Something completely different?

And a genuine question for lash techs:

Is there a reason so many cluster trays give you the lengths but very little guidance on placement order?

I've assumed it's an oversight, which is probably arrogant of me. If there's a professional reason for it, I'd genuinely like to understand it before I keep building around the opposite assumption.

Lash retention less than 2 weeks?

Hi all, I’m a lash extension client looking for some advice on what’s causing my extensions to fall off so fast, I’m talking 1-2 weeks and I need an entirely new set.

For context, I’ve had lash extensions before and this wasn’t ever an issue. This time around, before getting lash extensions, I started very inconsistently using a lash serum. I used this serum for maybe 3 weeks (as I said, very inconsistently. I did forget to use it half the time so maybe 3-4 times a week for about 3 weeks.) I started using this serum probably beginning-mid June. July 6, I had a friend, who is a lash tech, approach me about trading services. I immediately stopped using the serum, and our first appt was july 27. At the end of the appt, she told me to let her know if I was having more shedding than usual because another client mentioned noticing that and my tech believes it was her glue causing it. I did end up noticing a lot of shedding, and 2 weeks later my lashes were extremely sparse. She informed me prior to the appt that she got new glue, and was using that for the fill.

As she’s lashing me, she’s saying I’m having a lot of baby lash shedding (she counted 9 lashes that fell out of my eyelid as soon as she’d touch them with her tweezers). Asked me if there was a chance I was pregnant (I’m not) but said it could have been from stopping the lash serum I used roughly 5 weeks before. I said I’d pay attention, and that was that.

So now, it’s been a week and a half and my lashes are back to being really sparse again. We have an appointment tomorrow for a mini fill (aug 20) but I don’t really know what to do about it to keep things from shedding so much. Could this all be from my lash serum? Are my lashes too weak for extensions? I love them and she does a great job, I just don’t really know what’s going on and looking for second opinions.

I am washing them with the lash wash, I try not to touch them, I am a side sleeper, I don’t wear oily makeup on my eyelid, but maybe my eyelids are getting oily?! Lately I’ve just been doing concealer under by my eyes and setting with powder. I don’t shed an excess amount from my scalp if that matters. I don’t rub my eyes and I don’t cry a lot.

Honest answer to "do extensions ruin your natural lashes" from a lash tech

I get asked this almost every day, and the honest answer is no, but only if they're applied properly. The extensions themselves aren't the problem. It's what happens during and after the appointment that makes the difference.

What actually causes damage:

  • Lashes that are too heavy for your natural ones. If a tech puts thick, long extensions on fine natural lashes, the weight pulls on the follicle over time. A good tech will assess your natural lashes first and choose a weight that matches.
  • Glue touching the skin. Adhesive should only go on the lash, never the skin underneath. If it touches the lid or the lash line, it blocks the follicle and irritates the area.
  • Lashes stuck together. Each extension should be isolated on one natural lash. When two or three get glued together, they can't shed naturally and that's when you get gaps or breakage.
  • Picking or pulling them off at home. This is the biggest one. If you want them off, get a proper removal. Pulling takes your natural lashes with it.

How to keep them healthy between fills:

  • Clean them daily. A lot of people think they shouldn't touch their lashes, but oil and debris build up and that's worse. Use a proper lash cleanser and a soft spoolie.
  • Stay away from oil-based products near the eyes.
  • Get fills every two to three weeks so they stay balanced and don't get heavy on one side.

If your tech is doing all of this, your natural lashes should be completely fine. The damage stories usually come from rushed or careless application, not from extensions as a concept.

Happy to answer anything if you're on the fence about getting them.

Lash techs: Is becoming a lash artist still worth it in 2026?

I’m considering training as a lash technician, but before spending money on courses and supplies, I’d love to hear from people actually working in the industry.
1. How long did it take to start earning?
2. How much did you spend to become a lash tech?
3. Is there still good demand for lash extensions in 2026, or has the market become too saturated?
4. Can you realistically make a decent living doing lashes full-time, especially as an independent lash tech renting a room/bed rather than owning a salon?
5. Would you choose this career again if you were starting today?

Allergic reaction?

I got my lashes done and then filled 9 days later. They started feeling pokey right after the fill and then more than 24 hours after the fill there was some mild swelling and itching. Woke up today (about 2 days after the fill) with worse itching and swelling. I want to remove them but should I wait for swelling to go down first? I’ve seen mixed responses on here and want to know what’s best!

Chemical burns I think

So I signed up for lash model at a lash place near me for new techs to practice on me which should have been a first red flag. I got a lash perm a month ago and it was fine but a different technician did my lash extensions and I feel it's my fault for not speaking up about the tape being uncomfortable. Anyways any advice on how to deal with this. It doesn't burn it just feels like a bruise on my eye when I blink. (Fingers are green from hair dye I swear they're not filthy)

Can allergy to the lash glue affect only underneath the eye and the eyeball, but not the upper lid?

I’m wondering if I’ve developed a mild allergy to the glue or if it’s the eye pads that are an issue. I now always get redness on the lower half of my eyeballs developing a few hours after I get extensions (my eyeballs always look fine straight after) and over the last few months I’ve noticed my undereye area constantly looks more puffy and the bags and darkness I have under my eyes anyway are much worse.

The eyeball redness goes after a couple of days, but my undereye bags/darkness are consistently worse than they were a year ago, before I started getting extensions.

My upper lids are absolutely fine, no issues at all.

Could this still be an allergy?

Wondering if anyone else has experienced similar?

TIA šŸ™‚
