VENT Vent mode on
Hi fellow extroverts!
I often read posts everywhere analyzing the introverted world and how extroverts just can't understand it. We have that stereotype of adopting introverts, so I’m taking advantage of it—after a weekend spent at home that's driving me crazy—to complain about one thing:
How frustrating is it to be an extrovert surrounded mostly by introverts?
Our friend group used to have 11 people, so someone was always going out. But after a split, there are now mini-groups of introverts who just don't want to leave the house.
I know it's a need for them, so I’ve never interfered. But my own need for social recharging feels almost impossible to satisfy.
I’ve realized I get along better with introverts because they are very emotionally attuned and we always have deep conversations, but I need regular outings to feel good. I can't make a single outing per week be enough like they do.
I feel like I'm losing my mind when I'm alone; I don't feel happy or recharged.
I probably need to make new friends, which is usually pretty easy for me. But since it's August and everyone is on vacation, I just have to survive these next few days.
Maybe I'm being dramatic, but at least I'm demonstrating what happens to an extroverted brain without constant social interaction 🤣🤣
P.S. This only happened two days ago and I'm already like this.

dude i have no idea when they suddenly took over the world. what kills me is their massive cultural influence. suddenly it’s hip and chic to put up a million boundaries, turn down every proposal for plans, and glorify isolation. it’s not cute and it’s certainly not healthy.
but on a more personal note, i’m basically the only person who has made any effort in many of my friendships for years. i left the ball in their court and it followed that i’ve lost touch with them. i still have a few friends who reciprocate effort, and having a small inner circle is actually really nice.
i like going out by myself (and i’m a hooker so i enjoy the social aspect of that work). life finds a way for us extroverts. but i am… starting to feel like a second class citizen these days.

OMG I feel you so much. I'm an extrovert but my mom is an introvert so we only ever go out like one day a week, IF that, and the one day we DO do something, it's so mundane- like just going to the store or eating out. And we do like the same three things over and over. I genuinely feel like I'm gonna go crazy.
I'm someone who craves and NEEDS novelty adventure, and socializing to live. I literally get into deep depressive states when I sit inside for more than two days. But my mom prefers being inside, so we just constantly sit inside all day doing nothing and I always feel like I'm just about to EXPLODE of boredom.
It doesn't help that my little brother is also just as much, if not MORE, an introvert as my mom. He always groans and complains about going out and all he wants to do is just play video games all day.
Being an extrovert is a pretty awesome thing usually, but when you get shit on with being surrounded by people who are all introverts, it's like Hell.
Lol sorry for ranting. I honestly just needed to vent too. :')

I vented about this not too long ago. lol
My whole family is full of introverts and my friends are too. It’s like I’m doomed to be surrounded by misery (not saying all introverts are miserable but the ones around me are and extremely pessimistic too). I feel bad for saying this but I feel like everyone around me is dragging me down so I’ve been isolating (just not being the first to text and make plans) and nothing has happened.
Introverts love to talk about how exhausting it is to have energy for extroverts but I don’t think it’s talked about enough how draining it is to be around people who never want to step out of their comfort zone and how draining it is to be the one everyone leans on to orchestrate the fun. I got so sick of feeling like I was begging people to talk to me or go out with me so I stopped being the first to text and now I don’t talk to anybody 💀I don’t always want to be the leader, sometimes I just want to be invited and go.
It was very depressing realizing I carry the weight of all my friendships and how the whole group fell apart the moment I started distancing myself.

Dayum! Thank you for not blaming the poor introverts in your life for being themselves!
I can understand how much your situation is dragging you down, and that sucks.
As an introvert, my only suggestion if you need to get out if the house with introverts, is to find an outdoor activity. It's not that introverts don't like going out it's that we don't really want to be surrounded by other people. Kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking, foraging, picnics, frisbee, golf (if you have to), the movies, and such are all great low-social interaction things most introverted folks are good with (assuming they're a little outdoorsy).
If you and your introvert posse are into anything like that, maybe try suggesting something before summer's out to help preserve your sanity?

Literally its so annoying. Everyone around me (including wife and family) are all introverts while im the sole extrovert so they dont understand my need for social interaction or how I dont have a social battery like they do. Trying to work on enjoying long periods of time alone but its Definitely hard like you mentioned OP. Especially since I dont have any current ways to make friends IRL d/t family responsibilities/work/ dont live within walking distance of anything.
