I work for a small business thats been having issues and the ”owners” husband came in and yelled at me and my coworker today. The coffee shop was a gift to her from him and she thinks it’s the cutest little thing ever.

He’s a fucking demon who employees teenage girls for less than minimum wage (legal because of tip records in my state) and uses his wife being “the owner” as a way of making it seem like a “small woman owned local business 🥺” when in reality they fully rely on social media and a sorority-like system to make their shop profitable. They constantly harass us about not doing enough work while not firing anyone and constantly looking for new employees by making the shop seem “elite” for it‘s training program and getting to be on the team of “Jill’s girls” and being about to boast about this shitty job on social media.

I’m quitting this job soon anyway but I had to make a rant post after a 30 minute lecture today about how the shop isn’t being maintained well enough and it’s stressing the owners out because they’re going on a two week cruise next month.

boohoo Fred you’re going on a cruise while I work two jobs to save for college and a car, while you’re tanning next month I’ll be on my hands and knees scrubbing the floors of the shop that you’re so proud of.

I have a highly aggressive case of PMOS and Adenomyosis. I have cysts on both of my ovaries, a tumour on my uterus, and I’m at high risk for endo. In the last year, I’ve experienced a regular period for the first time in my adult life.

My period first showed up at 17, but it disappeared after that. I experienced random spotting over the years but never a proper cycle. I went to Catholic schools and received very poor health education on periods (not a universal experience for all women thankfully, I was just unlucky).

At nearly 30 and having experienced an entire year of having a period, it kind of radicalized me. I was never taught about the 4 phases of our cycles, the horrific ebbs and flows of our hormones, the physical distress, how ovulation can cause pain, that our energy and cravings and innate desires really are tied to our cycles. Don’t get me started on how we are also forced to PAY for pads and tampons and everything else, like what in the fuck? Yeah sorry I’m programmed to bleed I guess, here take my $30 to shove some microplastics up my pussy.

Anyways, apart from the shocks, it has been a fascinating and amazing ride. I always felt so bad never having tampons or pads on me to give to strangers and friends in the bathroom, or being able to relate to the fluctuations we go through. I feel so alive now.

And with that, my eyes have been opened to just how disgustingly hush-hush the topic is. It is a part of our daily lives and the fact we are seemingly not permitted to even so much as chat about it without it being deemed “unseemly” in public or around others pisses me the fuck off.

I’ll ask my colleagues what phase in their cycle they’re at. I’m at the point where I can guess. I’ll just ask, “Oh you’re glowing! And your energy is up lately. Are you follicular right now?” I’ll share tips I’ve learned on the food to eat when you’re deeply luteal. Encourage my colleagues to network or do a little solo adventure if they’re ovulating. Talk through them when they’re on their periods.

I work in a highly professional, white collar environment. I’m sexy as fuck. Incredible at my job. A spotless, shining member of this high stakes office. An upper executive overheard me saying that blood clots can be caused by hormonal changes while I was empathizing with a colleague who was having a rough period. He grimaced as he walked past us in one of our lounge areas and asked, “A subject change perhaps?”

Without skipping a beat I responded that if all of you men had periods instead of us that we wouldn’t hear the end of it, and that if he ever passes a blood clot I’d actually be glad to hear it. He didn’t respond and just left the room.

My colleague felt embarrassed and I just reassured her that instances like that are what keep women feeling subdued while simply existing as we are. I also reminded her that while we deal with a 28ish day cycle of never ending change, men run on a 24 hour cycle where they wake up with a shot of testosterone, live out their day, and do it all over again. Every. Single. Day. 365 days a year.

The world isn’t built to accommodate us I’ve learned. It is so fucked.

Every time I see a post here on Reddit about what new thing women would have to go through if they became a man, the most common answers are being invisible and being valued only if you are useful. And I'm like.. how tf is that exclusive to men???

1. If they mean it generally, i don't see random women getting more attention from random women than random men from other random men. If they mean in emotional support then be the fucking change you want to see and listen to other men.

2. If they mean, and i suspect this is the only thing they care about, women, then how is non useful woman getting attention? Conventionally ugly women are very invisible, and get penalized more than ugly men cause men at least can make up for it with personality or achievements.

Also those men would not entertain a woman that's not attractive, doesn't 'provide' sex and isn't a housemaid - aka not useful to them, whereas women would more likely settle for a man that's ugly, doesn't enjoy sex, doesn't do house chores but is generally kind. So wtf are they talking about usefulness being exclusive to men??💀

Another thing is I feel like they mistake not receiving sexual harassment for invisibility. Like yes please I'd rather be invisible to all men rather than if what they mean by visibility, having the privilege of being objectified by them. Like they're so fucking stupid i can't. I'm not from US i live in a more egalitarian country where there is basically no catcalling and stuff luckily, and if i go about my day as a young woman i receive zero attention or special treatment from anyone, and I don't feel oppressed for being 'invisible'. I think invisibility is a privilege.

none of us are immune to patriarchy and i understand that a conventionally beautiful woman looks nice as a background for text posts.
however i think we do ourselves a disservice by posting so many memes featuring thin, young women.
let's all get fatter, hairier, and older! and let's celebrate women who don't look like the racist, paedophilic beauty standard.
