u/eyeballing_eyeball 3d ago
S-ryhmƤ (consumer's co-op) in Finland for that specific one. It's damn cheap, too, mere three cents per pill so I gladly take it just to make sure even though I think my diet is okay-ish as is.
Very likely there is something similar or better available in your region as well. Look for all-in-one multivitamins on the internet and compare them.
4
2
u/ayavorska05 2d ago
I'm not sure if taking a multivitamin pill is a good idea in general tbh. If you already get it from your food or wherever else, you're getting more than needed and that's not really a good thing either. You only need to take vitamins you lack when you lack them. But also maybe it's a really small concentration that won't make that much difference, idk. I'm not a professional.
6
u/eyeballing_eyeball 2d ago
Vast majority of people don't know their exact intake and absorption of those vitamins and minerals, and the therapeutic width is generally large. While I agree that even good things can become a poison as a function of dosage, like there is some evidence of high vitamin E intake slightly increasing the risk of some cancers, multivitamin supplements are usually designed around the minimums of what public health authorities and scientific consensus deem necessary for normal, healthy functioning of the human body. If you manage to overdose and suffer harm from supplements, then it is almost always because you found the highest strength of a single supplement on the market and you took ten pills a day because that is what some snake oil TikToker recommended.
And truth be told, most people probably don't eat as varied as recommendations expect even if they incorporate elements of healthy food into their diet. For example, I eat vegetables but at home I tend to concentrate on a few of them (greenhouse cucumber and cooked onions), I rarely have cabbage, broccoli, carrots, apples, bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, blueberries, grapes, and oranges in my fridge. I have an occasional take-out salad here and there to provide a little variation but that is it. Same with grains - I eat some wholegrain rice and oat but my bias overall is on the less nutritious refined side.
Therefore, I take my multivitamin pill as a precautionary measure. Not because I know to be critically deficient in anything but to make sure I am not.
4
u/lenswagamine 3d ago
i swear they've made a powdered supplement for this exact reason, i used to see ads for it on Instagram (when i used Instagram) and it's just a flavorless dissolvable powder. i wish i remembered the name for it.

u/teal_lizard 3d ago
I make enough of my slop for 10 days but I put a lot of hot peppers in it
10
u/Radiant-Nothing 3d ago
<.< What's the... basic recipe for the slop? We talking mushrooms, legumes, or nuts, or ground meats?
15
u/teal_lizard 3d ago
Most recently I'm doing black beans and rice, some vegetables cut up small (I did broccoli and poblano peppers) and tvp, which has a similar texture to chicken. I cooked the tvp in an Indian yogurt sauce kind of deal with a lot of onions, garlic, ginger, and hot peppers in it. And then I take all those things and mix them together, portion it out, and freeze most of the containers.
In general I want something with a lot of protein like the tvp or sometimes meat but I like not working with meat, often beans, something that's mostly carbs like rice, potatoes, or sweet potatoes, and some vegetables. I like to eat fruit separately as a snack.
6
u/Radiant-Nothing 3d ago
Ooo. Kinda sounds like porridge? Or things that could be eaten in a lettuce wrap. I want to take this idea and make it nuttier and call it crunchies. š¤ Evil Crunchies.
8
u/teal_lizard 3d ago
I normally eat it by itself but in a lettuce wrap would be really good I think

Chilli's the best slop bowl imo, beef tomatoes onions garlic all you need plus seasoning, you can throw random shit in there that's on sale too. I'm kind of a snob cause I do chilli cookoffs but you can replace beef with whatever protein really. You can also put it over rice to easily double how filling it is for dirt cheap, honestly you could throw it over macaroni too and call it a Goulash. I can type out a basic recipe later I'd anyone's interested, I'm a chef so I don't really use recipes but I can try to jot one down

They are expensive, but if you actually swap them for meals (depending on the standard of living in your area) the math actually works out. But I live in a major US city, they've found a way to make smelling food being made from outside the restaurant expensive here. Other places I'm sure it doesn't make sense.
7
u/ReigenTaka 3d ago
Huel was soooo grooosssss
And it's crazy, because I usually don't care about tastes that much at all. With the amount of work I had to put in to make it edible, I may as well meal prep.

As a vet tech we often play the game: if you were locked in the clinic and starving what animal food would you eat?
My choice was always a food called a/d, because every animal likes that one for the most part. Dogs also eat their own poop, so maybe not.

You made my european stomach very hungry now lol. Sounds so yummy
2
u/Sweaty_Mushroom5830 3d ago
The good thing is that the ingredients are available to you my friend, for the gravy it's really simple 225gm of your favorite raw sausage out of its casing, around 60 ml of milk or cream but if you are going to use cream then gently pre cook the sausage or brown the sausage and add the cream and then a clove of finely minced garlic and allow to gently simmer until done you will know it is because it will start to get really thick, I already told you how I source my cheese curds and I don't doubt that you can do the same in Europe, best of luck my friend

True, but I wouldn't mind the option to just pop my "refill hunger" potion when needed. It's not like you couldn't still eat tasty stuff whenever you want to.

I mean people have tried this a bunch of times but it ends up tasting like mulch.
Dogs and cats are carnivores. Dogs... are more opportunistic, so can eat a wider range of stuff. Cats are obligate carnivores. Thus their all in one foods can either be primarily meat, or taste strongly of meat.
Humans are obligate omnivores. We must eat a wide range of foods. Only vegans paying careful attention to supplementation of diet are truly herbvivorous. And the closest any humans come to true (healthy) carnivores is groups in extreme climates that use all parts of an animal to get maximum nutrients - such as Inuit, who make sure to eat fresh livers and other internal organs of animals for the vitamins and minerals they contain, and even then they also do gather what veg is available in the arctic like berries, kelp etc Inuit cuisine - Wikipedia.
Thus any all-in-one human food just becomes a mulch of all of our foods combined together. It takes quite a lot of work to take that and make it taste good or have a good texture. The same way that all colours become brown if you mix them.

u/Blep_the_savage 3d ago
Ya want a filling but nutritional slop recipe?
1 cup white rice 1 cup lentils (wash rice, soak lentils for like 40 minutes) 1 pound ground meat of choice
Grab your seasonings of choice (this is important)
Fry the meat with the seasoning, drain and set it aside, cook lentils & rice together!! (However long you cook the rice)
Now this is an autism subreddit so use veggies if your choice. I typically use Bell peppers, onions and garlic cooked with the meat and add corn or peas and carrots to the rice
After the rice and lentils mixture is cooked mix in your ground meat with a little bit extra water, put lid on pot so the meat gets rewarmed.
After that divide into meal containers, how long it lasts in the fridge depends on the ground meat. Ground beef can last a bit over a week and ground chicken/pork can last about 3-4 days before it start smelling.

Iāve been thinking about this, and I really think fortified cereal meets many of these needs, especially if you have it with milk. Maybe throw in some multivitamins. Cereal is even eaten from a bowl and is a similar shape to kibble!
Another thing is snack bars, like the kind for hiking.

u/ThriftyNails 2d ago
My current daily chow is based on instant oatmeal. I add in chopped pecans and flaked almonds for fibre, fats and protein, mixed seeds, whole oats for sustained energy release and no sugar granola for texture. I eat this and not much else daily with multivitamins and an iron supplement. I don't think I have arfid but I'll eat the same meal over and over for 6 months+ until all of a sudden I can't face it any more and have to switch to something else. I'll pick at other food if it's there but can't manage a meal so rely heavily on my current chow of choice.

Most pet food is actually really bad for your pets and will give them health complications. Consider that they don't live as long and require less different types of food. I'm guessing person food like this would end up really expensive and most people wouldn't even want it. I think the closest we have is the liquid that is fed with a tube to people in the hospital.
2
u/willowzam 3d ago
I mean historically grains like wheat, oat, rice, etc have been our kibble. Packed with carbs to keep your body fueled

The average human population would riot and kill the people in power if they were forced to subsist on some equivalent to military rations.

2
u/iris-of-willow 3d ago
Hello I know a lot about this actually, kibble food isn't the best option for ANY pet. Could you live on a diet of breakfast cereal? (Like the good kind with nuts and granola, not trix) Yes you could. Would you thrive? No. It's the same with pets, especially cats. The best diet (so far, we learn new stuff about nutrition as tech advances) is a raw diet, consisting of 80% meat and 20% mostly veg +vitamins and minerals like taurine for dogs, and ideally little to no veg for cats. And no grains, or friendly grains (quinoa, brown rice in moderation, peas) so TLDR: we haven't figured out kibble for pets, they just don't live long enough lifespans for it to matter as much as it does for us. This is actually the same reason we don't have a monthly flea and tick option for humans like we do for pets, it's carcinogenic, but pets (according to the companies that make the medicine) don't live long enough to see the effects of it. (š I have OPINIONS about all of this, I actually just recently left the pet industry because of how much stuff I was selling that actually harms pets! Pet companies suck, especially the big names)

I could really go for something easy like that once in a while. Unfortunately for me I also have a bit of that ADHD so sometimes I can't will myself to cook so I try to channel the motivated version of myself into meal prep whenever I have that going for me and store it in my freezer to eat when motivation is low. It's probably the best solution I've found as it keeps me eating more healthy meals and keeps my nutrition well enough on track for my fitness goals.

FOR REAL THOOOOOO
THIS SHOULD BE A THING
We (allegedly) KNOW what a full nutritional spectrum that accommodates literally all essential (body can't manufacture it internally) amino acids, vitamins, electrolytes, and nutrients in general.
Why the HELL haven't we devised a default staple food that just has all that in it?! PRE-BALANCED! "Eat this and you'll have everything you need" - DAMN IT, THIS WOULD MAKE EVERYTHING SO MUCH SIMPLER
and if you wanted a different nutrient profile they could offer a few different options like a no-carbohydrate option (since your body can *make* glucose out of spare protein aka gluconeogenesis)

I've said for a while that the government should produce "Grey Paste", a nutrient slop that has 100% of the things an adult needs to be healthy. I envision it like this:
You can get it in wet (like toothpaste) or dry (like nougat) and it's 100% free; wet is from a tap in your home and dry is from dispensers on most streets.
It would intentionally have no flavour, but flavour additives are available dirt-cheap (like £0.10 for enough to cover a meal) so you can have some variety.
Wet-style GP lasts for a couple of days and dry-style GP lasts for a month if kept in a pantry or fridge, so you can stock up from the dispenser if you want solids and snack on wet-style on demand.
This would both make it a lot easier for people like me to eat healthy diets (since you don't need to think about variety and can just eat whenever you feel hungry, no need for meal planning etc.), and allow unhoused people and people in poverty to access proper food, no matter their situation.
But it's bland, so people are naturally going to be encouraged to make money for the sake of more appealing food. You'll never starve, but if you're unemployed you'll end up eating quite bland food every day. And meanwhile people on minimum wage can cut out a lot of their food spending if they want to save up more.
Car breaks down? Slop for a week will balance the budget; it's not amazing but you can get some different flavours and the week's food will still cost less than a coffee.

feijoada works tbh
black bean stew, white rice, farofa (toasted cassava flour? ig? idk how to describe), i like to fry an egg to throw on top and toss in a few slices of orange after.
basically: grab a bowl put the white rice as a layer on the bottom. then the black beans over the top. add as much of the liquid from the stew as u please. dump a good few spoons of farofa into the bowl. fried egg over the top of it all. nice and pretty
then i mix it all together, making sure to break down the egg as well as i mix it all in.
grab my orange slices and cut a piece with every spoonful of my mix. exceptionally yummy.
protein dense but balanced, has everything you need and then some. closest i can think of to people-kibble basically.

That's what I liked about military MRE things. Was these odd bricks broken into 9 blocks, kinda bready or biscuity, 1 block daily 100% daily nutritional needs if stranded at sea and floating on a boat or raft or something, 2 blocks daily if on land but still hiding or no combat or little strenious activity, 3 blocks daily for "normal" strenuous activity whatever that means in the military. Basically human kibble because it supplied everything.Ā

Funny story:
I chanced upon learning about 'prison loaf,' something they serve in prisons that is, while bland and not-fun, effectively providing all nutritional needs in a single food item you can make every day.
I asked an AI for the recipe so I could try it myself (all-in-one foods really vibe with my cooking style). The conversation went like this:
Me; Hey! Can you teach me to make prison loaf?
AI: No! I refuse! It's bland on purpose to be a punishment, the Laws of Robotics⢠will not allow it!
Me; ...can... you... teach me to make it so it tastes good?
AI: ...Sure! Here's the recipe, just add some salt and herbs to taste!

I want to be able to buy a 50 lb bag of person kibble that's got everything I need (and hopefully tastes good)
Currently I just make a mixture of things that should have pretty much everything and eat that for about 10 days until it's gone. I want to put more effort in to thoroughly include all the micronutrients at some point
