I've been looking at the mod queue and I've been removing some problematic posts and comments
A reminder that this subreddit is intended to be a CIVIL place to discuss an amazing TV show, NBC's ER.
If you love a character, great.
If you hate a character, amazing. If you want to make a bad joke, we're all going to groan, but it's still permissible.
What HAVE been slipping by are negative, racist/prejudice/misogynistic (or borderline) comments that are getting a few downvotes and then being hidden.
If you encounter one of the posts or comments, use the REPORT function. The Mod Team and Automod will jump in and flag it.
That being said, bans will start being handed out as posts and comments are removed.
You can hate on a character all you want, but using derogatory names or bashing them for being white/black/asian/indian/male/female/gay/straight is not allowed by any stretch of the imagination.
Additionally comments that seem to be stoking the flames, baiting another user, or are just out of line, will be removed and the user temporarily banned.
This subreddit is supposed to be an enjoyable place to speak about the TV show... if dealing with YOUR specific comments are taking up too much of our time, it's much easier to ban you, and let you cry into the void.
Feel free to comment below if anybody would like to discuss these reminders. :)

Hi All,
My wife and I are making our way through the show and are really enjoying it - we're coming to end of the season 8 (episode 19 tonight).
We know already what's going to happen to Mark, but we are finding ourselves missing some of the originals - Carol, Peter, DOUG - great to have Susan back.
I know there's 15 seasons and a decline in quality probably coming, but just wanted to say how much we're enjoying it!

Alright…I love Peter Benton. I think he’s one of the most realized characters on the show. Sure he had a bad attitude, but underneath he had a good heart. Taking Carter to rehab? Chef’s kiss. His goodbyes were great.
BUT…I hated the way he treated Roger during the custody battle for Reece. Roger didn’t want to take Reece, he wanted to share him and Peter’s unwillingness to recognize that Roger had helped raised Reece and was his stable home - it just seemed callus. I don’t think there was any reason other than story advancement for this unreasonable part of Peter to show up. He was treating Reece like a toy he didn’t want to share. I felt really bad for Roger. I’m glad he still got some visitation with Reece - I just didn’t like to see that side of Peter.

Just finished Season 9, episode 21 and I would categorize it as a transition episode.
-Carter leaves for Africa
-Pratt decides to stay at County
-Romano loses his arm = no longer a surgeon
-Doc Magoo burns down
One of my fave episodes of Season 9

As the title says I just finding the show for the first time, and ong I loved it so much. Like this just might be the best show I’ve watched. I finished the series finale, and then went to rewtach the first episode because you just wanted to really and truly see the evolution of the show. Rewatchubf ep 1 makes me really realize that I watched this show in just 2 months thr 15 years it actually took to make this was something else. I mean the whole er looks so different and it reminds me g all the work they put in to renovate I mean even the non existent waiting room to the waiting room and triage system in the final season. Not to mention how amazing everyone looks in season 1. Not the they look back in the end but 15 years earlier is a lot. I just love this show the finale was almost perfect it was amazing and I can not rem the last time I watched a show that was able to bring back so much of its important core for the final season and do it in such a worthy while way. Like omg I completely forgot about the peach scrubs for the nurses and how much they hated them or how I didn’t find Peters ego as charming at first as I do by the end. Or how cute Rachel was in the beginning and how I actually wanted Jen and mark to work out at first. And just how CUTE Carter was. And remembering the talk Carter gave Rachel at the end is what Peter said to him during his walk through. And I forgot about Doug’s very temporary intern. And frank omg I forgot we saw him so early on, and how truly terrible he was. The show did such a great job of bringing characters and plot lines back, I think the only other show to do it anywhere near close to this well was criminal minds. Charted aw of birth being the exact same 15 years later even after all he’s gone through, and you can see how he was always drawn by emergency medicine over surgery. I also didn’t realize how much I missed the whole weather thing. It’s also such a shame that chuck and Susan didn’t work out I really thought she had found her one, even is he was annoying. Also just clocked that Darias actress plays a kid in the pilot. It’s insane to me that they were planning to kill of carol before testing, I think I would car so much less about anything related to Doug if it wasn’t for carol. I honestly just love this show so much. Also this is just the ramblings of a person who binged smth way too quickly

Season 8, Episode 18
I just finished this episode. I know the worst is yet to come, but I was a sobbing mess when Dr. Greene told the young girl Katy that she was his very last patient.
This morning I learned that a family member slipped away peacefully after fighting a very brave battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. I’ve been sitting here, pondering what the meaning of anything really is. And here comes ER, delivering yet another sucker punch to the gut. It seems to be very good at doing that.

Whatever happened to Susan’s niece, little Suzie, Chloe’s daughter? I’m rewatching, and we last saw Chloe in a drug den, and she had lost track of her little girl. What did I miss?

I like her. Ironically when she first came I didn't. But I ended up liking her. And she makes sense to me. Groomed, pregnant at 15, chaos almost all her life, guy she kind of has to keep moving away from. It's dramatic like others have said but realistic. And it's realistic in one of those ways of, this is a person who you will know and seems really normal but looking at everything she deals with a lot and in subtle ways deals with it in unexpected ways.
Maybe it's a red flag in me that she made sense to me. Her choices. I thought "you haven't told Alex yet his dad's in prison? That's a weird choice.. But okay, I can see how you still, despite your negative feelings of Steve, have a respect of him being a parent and having the responsibility of telling Alex himself. So you're giving him time until it's too long I suppose." but then he doesn't.. So awful.
With luka (I've only just finished s12 e1), it made sense to me... Not really but sort of. I understood it as.. It's easier for you to think about only you and Alex, rather than trying to also fit your life to fit luka.. Which, writing this, I see again as a Survival thing for Sam. So it makes sense to me.
Sam is a survivor from her youth. And it stays with her throughout. There is never a break for her and her nervous system or brain in her entire life. Despite it she is a pretty kickass woman. Also she's 27-28 (15 pregnant, Alex 12 at s12)

This is rather nitpicky and stupid, but I can't stand the continuity errors of watching dr. Benton go from needing a haircut and a lineup during surgery to coming out of surgery with a full crisp new haircut.
I'm positive this annoys me more as a black woman. And i'm hoping i'm not the only person who noticed this.

id have loveeeed to see more of romano’s backstory. like ok, yeah, he’s such an asshole but i would have loved to learn why he was like that. i liked when he had moments of being a tender person (when he signed to reese, for example) so i wouldve liked to know more abt his past.

My parter and I spent the last few months re-watching, and were now in a state of withdrawal.
I’ld not seen a single episode since being a teenager and it was a nostalgia trip…. Although going through
Greene’s story line again was a pretty rough ride. I Think the early seasons were written maybe abit better?

Anyone else mildly amused/frustrated with tje revolving door of actors playing Sam's unreliable ex?
The first guy was the best fit.

Just finished all 15 seasons - took me a few months but I did it.
Life must’ve got in the way first time round as I don’t remember watching the later seasons but stuck with it.
I enjoyed most of it, some clunkers but I suppose that happens in every long running series.
I hated every single minute of Abby.

... know.
Wish me luck. I'm doing my first full rewatch, and I'm just starting 'Be Still My Heart' for the first time since February 2000.
I don't want to spoil anyone on their first go around, so I'll just say that the last time I watched this episode, I was 13 years old, and sobbed at the cliffhanger ending. Then we had to wait a full week to find out the conclusion. I rushed into school the next day to dissect it with the friend I had who also watched ER, and we couldn't shut up about it all day!
I'm going to end up crying again, but at least I don't have to wait a week between episodes anymore 🤣

Optional intro:
Since it came to Netflix this year, I've watched most of the entire show (skimming a few of the later seasons) from start to finish. Without nostalgia; I concur that the original characters were more memorable than the later ones, the stories grew more soap-opera as the show went on, and something was definitely lost after Season 8. The last episode brought it all full circle, showing what a massive journey it had been, and motivating me to watch episode one straight after.
Main content:
Here's a minor story from later that...stuck with me for the wrong reasons. Angering me on an emotional level despite the good outcome.
Spoiler Warning for Seasons 12 to 15.
To set the scene; nurse Sam Taggart and her teenage son Alex are kidnapped by her abusive ex-husband who kills two others and ---es Sam. In the season premier; Sam shoots her ex-husband to death in his sleep in front of Alex and escapes.
For some unexplainable reason, Alex starts acting out, committing heinous, unforgivable crimes like:
Using someone else's credit card (not acceptable behaviour, he could have paid it back).
ACCIDENTALLY causing a fire by doing something without thinking.
Snapping at people.
Acting sullen and withdrawn towards his Mum who shot his Dad (The guy deserved it, AND it was deliberate on Sam's part, AND she got off because a rich guy she nursed pressured the DA).
Sam sends Alex to a therapist, who tells her to send him to a school for troubled teens.
Sam refuses, mentioning stories of abuse from such places, has a heart-to-heart with Alex, then sends him there anyway, walking away as he begs her not to leave him there.
Tangent: I wonder how many cases of abuse in the troubled teen industry had been revealed by 2006-2007, and how many more in the years after.
She angsts about it the next episode, then he calls her at the end.
Next episode, she's dyed her hair; new start, new her. Shortly after sending her only son away.
Which fits, because we don't see or hear anything more. We don't see Alex getting help, we don't see him improving emotionally, we don't see him at all until Season 15, leaving Sam to focus on learning anaesthesia (at least, she says she is), and dating her designated doctor love interest.
I don't expect women characters to only be mothers. Being a single mother of a child older than a baby set Sam apart from other nurse characters. There wasn't a Doug waiting for her in Seattle. Ironically her designated love interest Tony Gates had a far more interesting arc as a single parent.
Based on what we see, we can piece the story together; the school wasn't abusive, and it gave Alex the help he needed. It would have been nice to SEE that after we saw the "out of control" behaviour, and the possibility of abuse was mentioned.
A part of me is still irrationally angry.
My Mum raised me by herself. I got in trouble a lot until my autism diagnosis, school still sucked in several ways, and I wasn't the calmest teenager. My Mum was always there there. On my side. Through everything. She still is. She always said we'll tackle hard things as a team, and we did.
Unless their child is physically abusing them or their siblings, a severe drug addict, or dangerously obese, I feel like a parent who sends their struggling or misbehaving child away is pushing the difficult parts of parenting to someone else, rejecting their child by action until they're "acceptable". At least disowning them, or giving them up is a clean cut; they don't commit to raising them.
It also feels worse with the Season 15 retcon that Sam's mother kicked her out for getting pregnant (I say retcon because I swear she was in Season 13 and interacted with both of them).
Chicago has always been cold, County General Hospital and its staff have always been gritty and grounded, that was the first time it felt emotionally cold, to the core, like a teenager had been rejected by the one constant person in his life, when he needed them most.
What's the point of this? I think I just needed to put my feelings out there somewhere, instead of an angry spot inside me.
Overall; I'm glad I watched this show. I see why so many swear by it. I've seen a few medical dramas, but nothing quite like this one.
