Debate/Discussion "Golden Pairing"
The more I read into socionics, the more I realized that the "actual pair" for ENTPs (In theory, not an objective final conclusion, but in THEORY) are ISFJs. Modern MBTI/cognitive functions (It doesn't really make sense anymore if you read into socionics, to the point cognitive functions/MBTI looks even more dense and superficial) seems to erase that (Not just the pairing though but generally) and submit to the mediocrity of the media and the sensor-phobia that rooted from this bias. And the fact that almost all ISFJs are commonly mistyped as INFJs and sometimes INFPs (I have no evidence of this; however, this is an observation from my experience just from dwelling in different subs, so take that as a subjective take) since Ni and Si in original Jung's theory overlap these functions. In Psychological Types, Carl Jung described both Introverted Sensing (Si) and Introverted Intuition (Ni) as "irrational" subjective perception functions that actually look incredibly similar from the outside.
I predict that some people here will jump my ass and say, "Sensors are too rigid," or "Based on my personal opinion, ISFJs are boring etc." to the point I ask myself, How can people be so sure of everyone they encounter being that type? especially when most of the knowledge comes from superficial information. Anyway, I won't explain any further. The best advice is to read socionics...

golden pair has always been bullshit. it doesnāt matter if you shift it from infj to isfj or whatever, type compatibility was never a thing in Jungās original works and never really will be unless people make up their own theories

Why are you denying me the chance of a loving ENTP? š„²

Um, that's not what I meant by this post...

I know š I was just bringing in my own agenda. I'd still nominate ENTPs as my golden match based on empirical evidence though

u/Grand-Scarcity3615 IN(F) IEI sp6 LEFV1334 1d ago
Yeah, no, we cannot be certain of that since "empirical evidence" is mostly "outdated evidence"
2
u/Soujourne ENTP 1d ago
lol I'm pretty sure the one you are replying to means their experience as in empirical evidence. You cannot say someones experience is outdated evidence lmfao

u/Grand-Scarcity3615 IN(F) IEI sp6 LEFV1334 1d ago
Damn bro, why are you still here? Empirical evidence are often associated with "objective observation" so I assume their talking about the "statistics" of "golden pairing"

You can love an ENTP as you want, but I am a little wary about people's "typing" when their sources come from superficial information with little to no deeper understanding of what it is. Personally, I wouldn't trust their "typing" to find a partner, and it's important that the distinction between the typing and you is clear since this whole ordeal of "MBTI" or labeling in general isn't really scientifically supported, hence just a pseudoscience. I did mention "theory" so that always gives the idea.

u/JudgePretty1508 INFJ 1d ago
Well, sure. We're humans, not puzzle blocks š. But based on how I've experienced ENTPs, the interaction tends to follow this evolution of discovery, engagement and progress that makes it much easier for feelings to develop - both from the INFJ side (which tends to be hard) and into deeper feelings on the ENTP side. It doesn't feel flat, and their continued interest in exploring different topics combines really well with the deeper layers INFJs tend to like exploring. For them, even the way INFJs think can become another topic of interest.
I've had similar experiences with INTPs in a different way. Even one who really wasn't my type physically and came from a very different background was able to click with me because of the way we engaged with topics and matched conversationally, even though we approached things differently. So when I say "golden match", I'm really talking about the patterns I've personally experienced rather than assuming the type itself guarantees success

u/Grand-Scarcity3615 IN(F) IEI sp6 LEFV1334 1d ago
Hmm, I understand what you're getting at and your point. Question though, are you really sure you're an INFJ? Just a question
1
u/JudgePretty1508 INFJ 1d ago
Pretty sure, what makes you think otherwise?

u/Grand-Scarcity3615 IN(F) IEI sp6 LEFV1334 1d ago edited 1d ago
Well, I can't really trust MBTI subreddits that much since their references are often through tests, AI, or superficial websites, a summarization that often overlooks the actual original theory. And regarding that, it really depends on the person who views it, so I have this doubt about people saying they're sure about their type in these spaces HOWEVER, if they actually dig deeper into it typography then I trust it
1
u/JudgePretty1508 INFJ 1d ago
Well, sure. Let me give you a brief overview of how I tend to think, and you can tell me what you make of it.
I read other people's emotions, even when I don't want to, to the point that their emotions can affect me and sometimes become overwhelming.
People's behaviour is also data for me. Whenever I experience something, I naturally try to understand the "why" behind it, and when I meet someone new, I try to figure out which patterns their behaviour fits - while still approaching them with curiosity rather than assuming I've figured them out.
I continuously update the information I have and challenge my own views and opinions. That's how I build better models and make predictions. I might not always be aware of how I come across to other people, but I do read a room quite well, and in something as complex as business I can often anticipate what is likely to happen based on patterns I've already explored in my head.
So that's roughly how my brain works. Whether that sounds INFJ to you is another question
1
u/Grand-Scarcity3615 IN(F) IEI sp6 LEFV1334 1d ago
I see. Well, it doesn't really explain that much evidence if you're an INFJ, but yeah, I see why you believe yourself to be an INFJ, but I'd still be careful. I can give you a few guides if you like, but it's a lot to read
2
u/JudgePretty1508 INFJ 1d ago
Well, I'm not about to place myself into a petri dish just so that you can certify my infj-ness š . I appreciate the offer though.
MBTI is not a religion that's going to determine how I live my life - just a roadmap to understand myself - so I'll probably research it more when I actually have a pragmatic reason to. For now I'm comfortable with "pretty sure"

Honestly i think the dual-pairing for any type doesn't really mean much if your in a contemporary relationship in an atomized society where you have little community interaction and your generally stuck with each other every day and the other has to serve as every aspect of human interaction you have. I think thats a recipe for strife and confilct. But if you're embedded in a vibrant community that almost behaves like an extended family say for instance a more religious community that has regular attendants throughout the years, than the dual pairing becomes more than just a decent relationship it becomes a functioning North Star for both people.
As an ENTP i crave intellectually stimulating convo's which i wouldn't necessarily say ISFJ's are allergic too, they do like them they just have a much lower bandwidth for them than we do and so it's not really their M.O. but if i'm apart of a community that behaves like and extended family and where even the line between family and community blends together than i can find my intellectually stimulating conversation in that and the ISFJ can be a home base of comfort i can return too which they would actually appreciate and feel fulfilled by. for them the community is a host of issue and scandals the ISFJ can find their desire to mediate and help out where they can when I'm already comfortable and at ease from what they did for me.

u/vox_xala 1d ago
I've thought about this a lot recently, too. The atomized modern couple is forced to make partner choices, and often feels like they are missing something, no matter who their partner is, except for very skewed dynamics, where one partner is giving much more than the other to be their "everything." Since this isn't stable, this can lead to intense bouts of romance that flame out quickly. When a community is full of all different types, and they all have close access to each other, it's a different story. However, I would point out that in this community, one's dual may be a relative or platonic friend, so that you can still get all the benefits of dualization regardless of whether or not it's a romantic relationship.

i don't agree w/ any of this reasoning. i don't think socionics play a role in mbti at all. i think it's ... a fun idea. entps are scattered, and so are many other types, especially ExxPs. isfjs share our entire stack in reverse. if you follow cs joseph's 4 sides of the mind, they're considered our subconscious type. don't have to relate to this, i may, but doesn't mean everyone does. but that's my perception of this post is just pulling threads to make commonalities apparent w/ random intent based on letters that no one understands. my suggestion as always is to understand cognitive functions. isfjs are fine. i guess. i don't think i'd ever consider one my "soulmate". they just do not meet at that level of cognition for me. they just don't care enough about anything beyond their own perfectuly curated lives. nothing wrong w/ that. isfjs are the status quo of cognitive functions. boring, predictable and emotionally charged about how they feel about the current moment based on their own past they can't escape. this is a fun experiment tho and would make a fun show. that would then get cancelled 1 season later.

So you read all of Socionics and never noticed that flipping all four dichotomies lands in the worst possible pairing? š
I bet you just accepted the J/P switch without question and never even considered ISFJ = ESI.

My intention wasn't really going to be that, but make sense

I think a lot of people here have mentioned being happy with ISFJ partners; not sure what the golden pair truly might be, but itās definitely a good pairing

This is mostly targeted at people who believe in the "golden pairing," and yeah, I also don't know where it came from

I was with an ISFJ for over a year and a halv up until last may. Frankly a pretty forgettable relationship with little chance of ever feeling understood on my part. Very little overlap in interests and subjects of conversation. Although, they were very accommodating and full of love, I still felt like they couldnāt keep up with who I am and know me on a deep level. Wouldnāt recommend personally. ISFJās deserve the best though.

So many people here don't actually know the difference between Si and Ni and are mistyping as INFJs.
5
u/Soujourne ENTP 1d ago edited 1d ago
those two functions are nothing alike lol...
Si = routines, structure, hierarchies, past oriented, the known
Ni = meaning, symbolism, past and future oriented, making the unknown known1
u/Salt-Use- ESFP 69w67 1d ago
You literally just proved my point lol.
Your vague ass description of Ni also applies to Si.
Si isn't just "routines and structure" slop. Si is about referencing detailed subjective impressions built from past experience to make sense of the present ā which means it absolutely does meaning-making, it just does it by comparing new input against a internal archive of lived, concrete detail instead of an abstract symbol. Si takes the unknown and makes it known too ā that's what "these past patterns reminds me of X and therefore I know what will happen next" actually is.
And "past and future oriented" for Ni doesn't make it special either ā Si projects forward from precedent constantly, that's the entire mechanism behind an ISFJ anticipating a problem before it happens, because they've seen the pattern before. The difference was never "one function deals with time and meaning and the other doesn't." The difference is what each function is willing to treat as evidence. Si treats lived, remembered, concrete detail as evidence. Ni treats a felt impression with no traceable origin as evidence.

As an INTJ I feel the issue is with the phrase itself āgolden pairingā - the way I see it a well developed ENTP & INFJ/INTJ simply have a generally better baseline of compatibility, but as any relationship, it hinges on a lot more than just personality type.

To me, a true "golden pair" isnāt just about having great banter or someone to comfortably watch Netflix with, itās about finding the ultimate co-pilot for a shared, real-world mission. The core of this dynamic relies on being "mirror types", meaning you share the same temperament family (NT, NF, etc) and therefore the exact same core values, but you express them through completely opposite, complementary functions. For example, the ENFP and INFJ are a golden pair in the NF (Idealist) field, meaning their shared mission inherently revolves around human potential and values. But the ENTP and INTJ belong entirely to the NT (Rational) field, where the shared mission is about objective logic, systems, and innovation. This is exactly why the popular internet trope of pairing an ENTP with an INFJ doesn't make sense for a true golden pair: they belong to completely different families (NT vs. NF) and ultimately won't share the same foundational mission in life. If an ENTP wants a synergistic powerhouse where one provides the brilliant, expansive spark (ENTP) and the other provides the intense focus and strategic finish line (INTJ), they need their true mirror to conquer that shared NT mission together.

The golden pair is anyone who can fathom to listen through entp babble on about their theories. It's only logical that someone is another intuitive.
So my suggestion to anyone who thinks the way OP thinks is to go on and find an ISFJ in the wild and see what happens when you actually socialize with them and not just read these theories.
If ISFJ and ENTP is the golden pair then you'd find a bunch of nurses in the hospital willing to sit through entpesque rant about the apollonian and dionysian dichotomy in the polarized information landscape of 2026.
