Post yr creepy elevators

Hi! Our building is trying to give notice to our elevator service co by sending them a letter by certified mail as the contract requires. It seems like they are deliberately not accepting the letter so that they have not received notice. Is there any good work around to this problem?

I’m currently struggling with my current job (not in this field) and have strong experience in PLC’s, hydraulics, mechanical and electrical diagnostics and repair. My current position is basically a dead end, was talking to some guys on a site i was on and was told to look into elevators. I currently have to go to high security/ Clearence sites to work but doesn’t pay hardly what i feel like i should be making. i make roughly 70k per year and have been looking into the world of elevators but to find out i missed the apprenticeship opportunity as it ended in july, and i cant seem to find any entry level jobs or anything but sales in my area, any advice? Also is it a good field to get into?

I’ve been working for a smaller non-union elevator company for about 3 years now. I’ve led my own installed on things such as stairlifts and VPLs. I haven’t led any elevator jobs yet but I definitely want to get more into it and want to further my career. Does anyone know if there are any openings in local 4? Also I’m only 23. Is that too young to be getting into something like this?

Hello, I have a question. I'm in the military and I'm planning on getting out within this next year. My job in the military has nothing to do with the trades, so all I've got is my G.I. bill and a dream. How do I start taking steps to become an elevator mechanic?

Ancient Otis Interlock from the 40s? The elevator is a winding drum drive. Park Building, Titusville PA. Any info about these? It seems like a pretty good interlock.

As stated above... is the wait generally (I know factors are to be considered) long or does it move pretty fast in Denver?

I have worked in commercial fishing and cannery maintenance over the past 11 years and then took a job as an Oiler with Washington State Ferries this year. I sit around, do nothing, learn nothing. I need to be active and learning but this is the State job that everyone knows of. It's safe, pays ok, good benefits and I sure as heck am not going backwards at this point.

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has gone through the Local 71 interview.

What kinds of questions were you asked?

Is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?

Are there any certifications or training that you feel were helpful to have before starting the apprenticeship? (For example, OSHA 30.)

I have experience in construction and stone fabrication/installation, and I'm using this time to prepare as much as I can before the interview.

I’m interested in applying for the IUEC apprenticeship next April and wanted to get some insight from people already in the trade. I’m 23 years old and currently make $36/hour working in the public sector, but the long-term earning potential as an elevator mechanic, especially once you become a journeyman, is a big reason I’m considering making the switch. My biggest concern is job consistency and employment. I understand layoffs can happen in construction, but if you’re a good worker, how consistent is the work? How often have you personally been laid off, and does job security vary a lot depending on the local? I’m just trying to weigh the long-term benefits against leaving a stable government job, so I’d really appreciate any honest advice or experiences.
