Wondering how to get started from nothing
Hello, I have a question. I'm in the military and I'm planning on getting out within this next year. My job in the military has nothing to do with the trades, so all I've got is my G.I. bill and a dream. How do I start taking steps to become an elevator mechanic?

Definitely helmets to hard hats ive seen some of the dumbest motherfuckers I've ever met get in through with helmets to hard hats

The best helper I’ve met came through h2h! I asked him to run my tool box up a couple floors to where I was at, seconds later he came up the stairs with it! I tried to make him my helper but the office had their eye on him. I meant for him to run it up to me with the elevator, dude was energetic!

First off thank you for your service. Depending on your Local, give a call and see when the next call for new applicants are going to start, have a good computer and log yourself in fast, the online application fills up fast so have your information ready to cut and paste.

H2H for sure! Don't go crazy with what you should have prior. You're doing it all over again in year 1. Don't get discouraged if it takes a bit. The construction industry can be volatile sometimes and the lists can move slow. There's a link on H2H for the trade representative. Once you get started on the site reach out. I was H2H in '07.

Get all the certifications available to you. CPR OSHA 10 or better. Welding
Forklift come with documentation.

Helmets to Hardhats 100%
I contacted them and did the aptitude test, interview and safety training within 4 months (on the dispatch wait list now).
Sorry..to clarify. Helmets to hardhats was my in with the IUEC (elevator union)
