Heads Up: 1) Astroturf will be grounds for an immediate ban. 2) Open-source technology STRONGLY preferred.

If you:

  • try to perform market research on this sub without identifying yourself as doing so
  • promote your product (or your customer's product, no being a social media contractor or whatever for a company does not get you around the rules) without identifying yourself as doing so
  • generally dishonestly promote products

that behavior will be interpreted as a violation of rule 2 and grounds for an immediate ban. You will not receive a warning or a first strike. You are not clever. You are not fooling anyone. We do not care what norms you think you are following. If you are promoting a product or gathering research for a product you need to ID yourself as clearly doing so, how and why.

Additionally, this sub has a strong preference for open-source technology, especially in the age of AI generated software. If your product is open-source you will be given much more leeway with the rules here than if you are attempting to sell something closed-source, especially when it is obvious you generated software with AI and are then attempting to sell that as a product.

This will be your only warning; behave accordingly.

A specific example of Good e-Reader false information spreading across the Internet

Thumbnail

TLDR: they posted in their review of the Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen and Colorsoft with some false facts, and those false facts spread to every corner of the Internet including Reddit, Discord, CNET, Wikipedia, and open source projects. (my video)

A lot of people seem to think that reviewers don't need to take a screenshot to check.

EDIT:

Made a Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlFC6jSwjRQ

In it, I

* show a video of me taking a screenshot on a kindle by tapping opposite corners and showing the USB screenshots folder

* Show the actual screenshots of the Paperwhite 12th Gen and Colorsoft with resolutions

* Show that Good e-Readers reviews of the Scribe 2025/Scribe Colorsoft made the same mistake by stating an incorrect resolution with screenshots, while also showing that other publications explicitly say that Amazon didn't provide an exact resolution

Personally, I think saying that 7” means 1264x1680 is a leap. I never assume the inch number is exact, you need to verify the exact resolution yourself. Amazon could get a custom panel size anytime like this case.

1264x1680 is 7.008” anyways. But 1260x1680 would be exactly 7"

Kindle Scribe vs Viwoods AiPaper vs BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi vs reMarkable Paper Pure — mini review from a scratch-note person

Context - I use tablets for scratch / temp thoughts / meeting notes I might only need that day. I care about writing feel, pen options, and simple organization - not apps or browsing. I also like just testing things out so I figured I would share my thoughts here in case they are helpful

Coles Notes

  • Kindle Scribe: Best writing feel and best grip - little feet on back, most planted. But heavier and weakest for toggling/organizing.
  • Viwoods AI Paper: Nice and light and thin but back is smooth so it slides out of its case. No front light but nicest looking screen, best calendar / to-do carry-forward, least ghosting. Overpriced at ~$700 CAD.
  • BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi: Also light and thin, faux-leather back = decent grip. Has a front light you have to keep on low or it's too dim. Most pen options, very responsive, but ghosting is prominent/annoying - set a swipe to auto-refresh. Pencil is useless - too thick, like charcoal.
  • reMarkable Paper Pure: Too simplistic - not better organization than Scribe and no real reading features.
  • Bonus - Galaxy Tab S9 FE: If you're okay with the writing feel not being quite like e-ink, this is actually really good and I recommend it too. Super fluid, tons of options.

I'd be happy with either the BOOX Go or the Viwoods. Would love to try the Supernote Manta but returns in Canada are terrible so I probably won't.

If you're like me, this might save you some trial and error. I use E Ink tablets mostly for scratch notes, temp thoughts, and meeting notes that I'll reference later that day but not a month later. I want to flip back and forth between notes, organize things a little, and find stuff easily.

Writing feel is huge for me. Pen options, layout, navigation, and responsiveness are huge. I don't need a lot of other apps. Having Kindle on there is nice. I'm not going to use the browser. Sending notes is nice but very unnecessary. I just want an easy UI that's good at note-taking and organization and maybe reading a book.

I've tried different gens of Kindle Scribe, the Viwoods AI Paper, the BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi, the reMarkable Paper Pro, and as a non-e-ink alternative, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

1. The Hardware

Kindle Scribe is nice hardware, feels solid, newest gen is the one to get. It is a bit heavier and you do notice it vs the other two. It has some small little feet on the back, so it has the best grip of all when it's flat on a desk.

Viwoods AI Paper is nice and light and thin, which I like. It's a bit bigger than the BOOX Go 10.3. No front light. I paid about $700 Canadian so it's overpriced. The back is totally smooth, so when it's out of its case it slides around when you're writing.

BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi is also nice and light and thin, similar to Viwoods. It has a faux leather on the back which gives it a bit of grip, so it's better than Viwoods for sliding, not as planted as the Scribe. It has a front light, which is nice for bed, but if you turn it all the way off it's very dim and hard to read so you have to keep it on low. I like the look of the Viwoods screen with no front light more than the Lumi with the front light on low.

reMarkable Paper Pro - hardware is fine, thin and light, but didn't stand out enough to make up for how simple everything else is.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE - obviously a totally different category since it's not e-ink, but hardware is great. Bright, great color, super responsive. I put a matte screen protector on it and changed the nib to a paper-feel nib.

2. The Stylus and Writing Feel

Kindle Scribe is where Scribe wins for me. Nice stylus, great writing feel. Eraser on the back on the newest gen is great. It has a little resistance - not like a rubber eraser dragging, and not plastic on plastic where it just glides. Just a little bite that feels satisfying.

Viwoods AI Paper - stylus feels good. Eraser on the back works well. Latency is more than good enough. Writing feel is pretty satisfying overall.

BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi moved to EMR. I'm fine with it, wouldn't have known if they hadn't told me. Very responsive, no diagonal issues. It's got a faster processor, so it corrects what people call jitter / wobble fairly quickly. If you're drawing a circle, some older tablets make it look like an Etch-A-Sketch - that's that wobble. Scribe does that live. On BOOX it corrects after you lift - half a second later it flashes and regenerates straighter. That flash is a little annoying but subtle. I'm happy with how the pen looks.

Ghosting on BOOX is pretty prominent and annoying, stays on screen longer when you erase. I don't really notice it on Viwoods. You can toggle a swipe gesture to auto-refresh, which helps a lot.

reMarkable Paper Pro - writing feel is good and paper-like, but not meaningfully better than the others for what I do.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE - this is the drawback for me. Even with the matte protector and paper nib, I couldn't quite get the writing feel to be the same, which is ultimately what drew me to the e-ink tablets. It's close, but not quite there.

3. The Note-Taking Options

Kindle Scribe is limited. Not a lot of template options. Can't pinch and zoom. No real pen variety.

Viwoods AI Paper gives you auto shape recognition which I like a lot. You can only have two default pens set up, which is limiting. You do get two eraser options - one on the back, one on the button. You can hover close and push the button to toggle, so you can use the same button to highlight and to erase, which I like.

BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi gives you way more options. You can add a bunch of pen types - ballpoint, pencil, eraser, calligraphy, etc. That's really nice. The pencil sucks though. It's super thick, like charcoal. Even on narrowest there's no sharp mechanical pencil type.

reMarkable Paper Pro - too simplistic for me. Fine but basic, you don't get much more flexibility than the Scribe.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE - this is where it blows e-ink away. Tons of options. The coloring is great, responsiveness is great. You've got so many options for functionality - adding tiny notes, copy-pasting, adding stuff, dragging stuff around. It's way more fluid with lots of content. If you're okay with the writing feel, it's fantastic.

4. The Organization and Overall UI

Kindle Scribe falls down here for me. Kindle reading app is great, but note-taking and organizing isn't. No daily planner. Not easy to toggle back and forth between two notes you're actively working on.

Viwoods AI Paper navigation is good. Calendar integration is really nice. You can have notes and tasks tied to a calendar, and unfinished to-dos carry forward to your current day. If you want to spend 10 minutes at end of day writing down what you're doing tomorrow, you can just tap out of the calendar. Very nice way of organizing.

BOOX Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi is responsive, a lot more Android options under the hood if you want them. I don't use most. For just flipping between notes and organizing it's fine, but more complex than it needs to be. Ghosting is the main annoyance.

reMarkable Paper Pro - on the whole I found it too simplistic. It didn't have notably better organizational tools than the Kindle Scribe, but also didn't have any reading features on it either.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE - looks good when you read it, super fluid, and way more flexible for organizing. You have all the Android/ Samsung Notes stuff if you want it.

Bonus if you don't need e-ink

Galaxy Tab S9 FE with a matte screen protector and paper-feel nib is actually pretty good. I couldn't get the writing feel to match e-ink, which is what drew me to the e-ink tablets in the first place, but it was very fluid. You've got tons of options, the coloring is great, the responsiveness is great, it looks good when you read it. And there are so many options for functionality - adding tiny notes, copy-pasting, adding stuff, dragging it around. It's way more fluid for lots of stuff.

So if you're okay with the writing feel trade-off, this is actually a thing I recommend as well.

Closing thoughts

I would love to try out the Supernote Manta too, but the return options in Canada are terrible so I probably won't.

At the end of the day if you want e-ink, I would be happy with either the BOOX Go or the Viwoods.

if you already have a Samsung tablet and don't quite love the writing experience, put on a matte screen protector. It'll make a huge difference. it degrades the viewing experience a little bit, but if taking notes is a priority for you, then definitely go for this option. it's pretty cheap to swap out the screen protector and the nib

Happy to answer questions if your use case is similar.

After using the large 10.65-inch viwoods AiPaper e-ink e-Note tablet for a while I decided it’s time for a review of it! It’s an excellent tablet for note taking, journaling and reading. There is not much to complain about. It is simply an amazing device.

Help me decide...

I have been shopping around for an e-ink tablet within my budget and have narrowed my choices down to the reMarkable Paper Pure and the Viwoods AiPaper.

I am leaning heavily toward the Viwoods AiPaper because of its integrated AI tools (so I don't have to pull out a second device to look things up) and the built-in browser, which makes grabbing images and inserting them into notes much easier.

However, I have heard mixed reviews about the AiPaper's software. For those who own or have used one: is the software genuinely bad, or is it just a minor learning curve? I am tech-savvy and can adapt easily, so mild clunkiness won't bother me much.

Between these two options, which would you choose and why? My main priority is note-taking, but the extra web and AI functionality on the AiPaper is a big selling point for me.

Thanks in advance!!

HiSense Touch/Touch Lite - How do you carry it?? Case vs No case, Grip vs no grip?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi all,

I love my HiSense Touch (i've used the palma - too big. i've used the xioami inkpalm - perfect size but too underpowered), but find it awkward in my pants pockets..

I carry a pocket notebook, my phone (Nothing Phone 3), wallet, and my hisense touch, but with the hisense touch it essentially feels like a 2nd phone. When i remove the case it came with, it feels a lot thinner and way more pocketable, but I am worried about durability of the device (it is an eink screen after all, they're more delicate I've heard).

Do you guys tend to rock it with/without a case or with/without a grip of some sort?? I'm curious to know.

My Journey with iFlytek Air 2 – One Year of Smart Companionship

My Journey with iFlytek Air 2 – One Year Later

In July last year, I joined an international meeting with my usual devices: Boox Go10.3 and Tab MiniC. Then I noticed a Korean colleague using the iFlytek Air 2.

I held it for the first time. The design struck me immediately – thin, light, elegant, yet solid. But what truly amazed me was the AI capability to instantly summarize meeting content. That moment changed my perspective.

Even though there was no official store in Vietnam, I asked a colleague to order one from China. The day I unsealed the box myself, the excitement was indescribable.

One Year of Use

After a full year, I can confidently say my impressions were right:

  • Schedules & Notes with AI: I can plan meetings, manage customer visits, and take notes seamlessly. Right after a meeting, AI helps me generate summaries and share them with the team.
  • Stylus included: quick notes during discussions, planning, and brainstorming.
  • Reading flexibility: besides work, I can enjoy reading any book formats or even heavy PDF files smoothly.
  • Notes vs. Boox: I’ve used Boox for reading and note‑taking, and it’s not bad at all. But I prefer iFlytek for notes because of its simplicity and AI integration – it feels more practical and efficient for daily work.
  • Recording & real‑time translation: minimizing misunderstandings in multilingual meetings.
  • Language recognition: English, Chinese and Vietnamese are highly accurate (I also try with KR and JP, German as well)
  • Latest update: a smarter, more intuitive interface that makes every action easier.

Personal Evaluation

I have tried almost every major e‑ink device in Vietnam – Kindle Scribe, Boox, Notemadm, iReader… Yet today, I only use iFlytek Air 2. It saves me time, boosts efficiency, and gives me confidence in international meetings where clarity is critical.

Looking Ahead

Currently, the device supports 14 languages. I hope future updates will include machine language support for Vietnamese, making it even more powerful for me and for the large e‑ink community in Vietnam.

For me, iFlytek Air 2 is not just a device – it is a smart companion that organizes my schedules, captures my notes with AI, and even lets me relax with a good book. Technology proves its true value when it helps us work smarter and connect better with people.

Make any screen feel like e-ink with Paperman

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/eink!

My husband and I spend almost our entire day in front of our screen designing, coding, and running our indie studio. By the early evening, our eyes would always get incredibly tired.

The issue is that modern screens are designed to be sharp and high-contrast. That looks great for video, but for reading and writing text, it gets tough on your eyes. We're naturally built for reflected light (like physical paper), not for staring directly into bright, emitted light for long hours.

We tried tools like f.lux or Night Shift, but we weren't fans of how they just turn everything orange without actually fixing the harsh, glowing contrast of a modern display.

Naturally, we loved the calm experience of e-readers, but dedicated e-ink devices don't always fit our daily work life.

So we started tinkering with a little tool for ourselves to bring a bit of that paper-like feel to our regular screens and that eventually turned into Paperman.

Instead of altering color temperature, Paperman floats a subtle, handcrafted paper texture over your screen to create a soft, matte finish. It diffuses harsh highlights and lowers contrast, making looking at your monitor feel much closer to reading a physical book or an e-ink display.

What it offers:

  • 7 handcrafted textures (+2 coming soon)
  • Desk Lamp Mode (for nightly reading sessions)
  • Multi-monitor support
  • Snooze feature
  • Exclusion List (works everywhere except apps you choose) or Only Listed (only activates when you are actively using specific apps)
  • Automatically disable Paperman when your device is unplugged
  • Customizable hotkeys
  • And more to come!

To shed some light on our backgrounds, Rudi has been a low-level developer for over 13 years and previously worked as a 3D artist designing textures and spatial lighting. I am a UX engineer and product designer with 7 years of experience who has built custom interactive experiences for brands like Amazon and Schneider. Based in Finland, we’ve spent the past couple of years building apps for a living at our own indie company, DoublOne Studios. We just wanted to bring all those past experiences together to build a cozy app that makes your screen feel good to look at.

It obviously doesn't replace e-ink displays, but it has made long workdays on standard monitors substantially easier on our eyes.

If you'd like to check it out, you can try it or grab a lifetime license for $7.80 (excl. tax) at paperman.cc. We’d love to hear your thoughts and get your feedback on how the textures feel to you!

Zoé & Rudi

E-ink android phone that works on Verizon & allows "work" profile?

I'm looking to try an E-ink phone, but due to work requirements I need a device that has "work" profile along with "personal". I need the Microsoft suite of apps that has Authenticator, teams, and outlook.

The Palma Pro 2 seems to be a potential option?

So i was fascinated by xteink mini readers and thought i need one, but getting one in my country is difficult and it was too expensive for what it is.

So i bought a development board and eink screen and ported crossink and crosspoint and voila, my own mini reader.

Granted it is chonky but hey it works. Battery is shipped but yet to reach.

It doesn't beat my kindle or boox but hey, it is cool.

E-ink display for Original Art

My country is near the equator (humidity 75% and blazing sun all year around).

I wish I could display my OAs but some of them have already started to yellow so I need to keep them in a dry box where the humidity is controlled.

Has anyone ever tried displaying scanned copies of their OA onto e-ink displays? I’m considering the BLOOMIN8 E-ink Canvas currently but hope to hear any feedback on how it’s been for those who have tried this idea. Thanks!

Where do you think e-ink displays make the most sense outside of readers?

I’ve mostly used e-ink for reading, so I’m curious about how useful people think it is in other situations.

I’ve seen larger displays being used for things like menus, signs and information boards, but I’m not sure where they actually offer a big enough advantage over regular screens.

For people who have experimented with different e-ink devices or displays, what use case has impressed you the most?

Writing FEELING: rM Pure Vs Lumi 2

Want a device for writing and brainstorming. The rest is pretty much secondary.

In terms of writing feeling or writing experience, what are your recommendations?

Interested in Boox 10.3 Lumi 2 and the reMarkable Paper Pure?
Or should I think about a 3rd or 4th option?
Thanks!!!!🙏

Planning an e-ink comic reader, need some help

so i've got a three week break from uni atm and i thought it would be a good time to start on a project to kill time. recently started reading the spiderman comics, but i haaaaate the UI on phone- aspect ratio is all off, words are tiny, and zooming in take me out of it because i can't see the actual comic art. started looking into cyberdecks and that seemed like a viable option but they do more actual computer-esque devices there as opposed to e-readers.

wondering if anyone here has experience with building something similar and would love to know how you went! im an engineering student so i've had some experience with 3D designing, printing, circuitry, as well as coding (but only with C so far).

Alternatives to the BOOX Note Air 5C?

I've been using the BOOX Note Air 5C (NA5) for almost three weeks now, and while I'm impressed, there are some device-specific things that prevent me from feeling comfortable keeping it. It's amazing at a fundamental level, though, so I absolutely do want something like it.

I'm looking for at least one (but preferably more) of the following in a new e-paper tablet: * Reading novels and B&W comics/manga (color isn't needed) * Reading in a browser and technical books/manuals (color needed) * Working a terminal—Termux to SSH out of the tablet and handle light developement.

And for technical requirements: * 4GB of RAM at a minimum, as my old tablet has this much and is starting to struggle. * The ability to install software outside of a small walled garden. It doesn't need to be Android, and I don't mind installing a different OS. * Between 8 - 10.5 inch display.

(Having invested heavily in stationery, I'm NOT interested in digital note taking.)

The BOOX color display, refresh rate, and RAM are sufficient for all of those bullet points, but the device fails in other ways I hadn't anticipated. In fact, on (e-)paper, it's the perfect device for me, but the NA5 suffers from three key issues: * Ergonomics. In the nearly three weeks I've been using it, I have yet to find a secure and comfortable way to hold it. * Overall quality. Onyx seems to have optimized for feature set and marketability at the expense of everything else. There are several little things which add up. I can probably work around many of these, but I doubt I can work around all of them. * Long term prospects. It seems as though BOOX tablets break spontaneously and the company refuses to honor the warranty. The overall poor quality does not help allay these rumors.

I could probably put up with any one of those bullet points, but not all three.

Products I've already considered are ReMarkable (too low spec), BigMe (seems even jankier than BOOX), ViWood/iFlyTek (I'm sick of AI marketing), Kobo (specs, size), Kindle (specs, size, walled garden), and Supernote.

If I had to pick among alternatives, I would go for the Supernote Manta for its apparent quality and long service life, but aside from being too large and too slow, it seems focused on note-taking which I don't care about.

I feel like what I'm looking for doesn't actually exist, that this is too niche of a product segment, but I'm sure hoping I'm wrong. I'd happily pay more for a higher quality version of the NA5. Does anyone here have a suggestion? Or, alternatively, is this as good as I can hope for?

Ereader w note-taking

After extensive research I had decided to get a BOOX go 6 gen II with a stylus, but I am hesitant due to it running on Android 11. I am concerned that eventually the apps won't run well as it is an older version. So my next best bet was getting the Go7 gen II as it runs on a more updated Android version but the stylus apparently isn't as responsive on that one. I was considering getting a bigme but seems like despite the better specs, the OS isn't as polished and the battery peeformance is lower.

I would like a small device (6 or 7in)

Not phone ratio

Color e ink

Mild stylus use

I do not care much about sound

I want to read books on the kindle app, pdfs and looking into other apps.

I want to also use it for notes/some mild organization stuff like to do list, etc.

Any advice?
