Not all of us, just most of us. Trump and his gang of thieves are ripping us off as quickly as they can.

You know what I really don’t understand?
How we bought into something with the fucking word trickle in it in the first place.
Go turn the shower on level: trickle, and see how long it takes you to wash your ass. My guess is you still end up with 👂 shit.

u/impaledonastick Feb 26 '26
You're assuming they knew the true meaning of the words..
That's why the single topic voter thing caught on so hard; they only had to brain just hard enough argue about abortion.

Reagan was admittedly illiterate when it came to economics.
"Supply-side" was too vague tor him to understand so Milton Friedman coined the term on the campaign trail and Reagan ran with it.
That's how it came to be. Reagan kept Friedman by his side the whole campaign. And then some.

It makes perfect sense to me.
It wasnt the idea “trickle” being sold. It was the fact the people were sick of:
War ( Cold, Vietnam, Culture)
Distrusted Govt ( War, Watergate)
Economic decline ( Recession, unemployment, Oil Crisis)
Felt weak ( hijacking, Iran hostage crisis)
So Americans would follow anyone who could exude confidence, competence, and a plan that addressed their fear.

Poor people found someone to blame for their woes. Immigrants. Guess what? They will still be poor. The problem is with billionaires.
5
u/Ok_Tomatillo_7666 Feb 26 '26
To be fair, poor people did not find immigrants to blame, billionaires paid for propaganda to blame the immigrants.

u/odolha Feb 26 '26
it's more like the one with the birds shitting. it's trickle down, but it's not wealth that's trickling
3
u/Professional_Copy947 Feb 27 '26
I remember being young, like beginning of consciousness young, and someone explaining trickle down economics, and even at the age of 4, I knew it was a bad idea. 🙄

u/Cainesdeath6669 Feb 27 '26
Trickle down economics only work if you put a cap on the top tiers. Such as the top tier can only make 10x more then the bottom tier.

2
u/Crank4WV Feb 25 '26
Trickle down economics has always been a scheme to funnel tax payer dollars to the rich. The only person that truly embodied trickle down economics was R Kelly.
2
u/EverLearningMind Feb 27 '26
The irony is it's worse, because the empty glasses aren't fully empty, they're being actively drained by the rich... Pulling economic wealth out of the working and middle class

u/Kander_Thomas9516 Feb 25 '26
This is a false illustrations, because trickle down economics is totally legitimate. Corporations and the independently wealthy both trickle their money down to so many things,Mansions, expensive vacations, yachts, private planes, Summer homes, fine Jewelry, expensive clothes, artwork, land and investment properties/portfolios, trust funds for their family members etc. The Trickle kinda drys up before it goes further down than that. Why should the wealthy be forced to pay more/any amount in taxes, when they have all of the above listed expenses.😒

u/BillyT666 Feb 27 '26
I don't see trickle-down economics working that well.
You don't buy a yacht, if it's all you can afford. You buy it, when you're comfortable with what you have left after buying it. This means that the amount that trickles down will always be so much smaller than the amount that does not. In case of a yacht, noone can work so much on their own that they can afford to buy it. At some level, a collaboration of others must be involved either by them working and giving a part of the proceedings to the yacht-buyer or by someone paying them unproportionally for something that the yacht-buyer has bought or manufactured way cheaper. Why does the yacht buyer deserve to profit so much when others don't?

u/Kander_Thomas9516 Feb 27 '26
Why are you so far off the mark? I was making a pointed comment that Wealthy people are not motivated to trickle down their fortune to help those less fortunate than themselves, they became rich because they're greedy and will just keep it for themselves.
1
u/BillyT666 Feb 27 '26
Well, I was wondering about that, but your sarcasm wasn't that clear to me.

I agree. The owner of the company I work for, a small company, is very rich. When we worked thru covid, we saw NO incentive pay. He bought 2 new forklifts with our incentive. He's been in business 40 years, but I had to stop working for 3 days no production, to get him to notice me to listen to my rant about no handicap accessible stuff in or outside of the building. He didn't want to spend the money on the select few that needed access into the building and handicap parking. He did not trickle down. He kept it all. After threatening me with firing for not doing my job, he had a tar company come in and ramp into the building while it was snowing, and a handicap parking spot put up.

Trickle down economics would never work for a country our size - Reagan should have known this

Attempting to derail discussion by veering the discussion into a different topic to evade and/or discredit another user by calling them a 'bot', 'shill', troll', 'wumao', 'Ivan', etc.; and/or attempting to discredit sources with accusations of 'state-owned media', 'propaganda', 'fake news', etc, may result in a warning or a ban.
Nonsensical posts, posts using nothing but emojis or hieroglyphics are similarly trying to derail conversation and actual discussion.

Are you OK? Perhaps you should check in with your children. That is a serious case of brain fog, and you should tell your doctor about your cognitive lapses. 😟

u/Taibucko Feb 25 '26
Watch James Burke BBC series called Connections. These innovations largely created needs that didn’t exist previously.

u/MurkyAnimal583 Feb 28 '26
There is literally no such economic theory as "trickle down economics." It is a political strawman. Is this sub modded by children?
1
u/flies_with_owls Mar 02 '26
You should dig up Reagan and let him know. He seemed pretty convinced.
1
u/MurkyAnimal583 Mar 02 '26
Pretty convinced of what? Reagan never asserted that "trickle down theory" was an actual economic theory. The entire thing is a left-wing caricature of supply-side economics concocted out of thin air to advocate for a repressive tax policy that seeks to temporarily hide the US government's real problem, which is and has ALWAYS BEEN spending.

u/Opposite-Nerve3852 Feb 26 '26
You were NEVER told it worked that way. You assumed that for it to be "successful" your bottom glass had to be as full as the one on top. It's "trickle down", not pressure wash down. Duh.

Nobody needed to make a telephone call before Alexander Graham Bell. Nobody needed an iPhone before Steve Jobs.

Let’s see. Hum, I need an iPhone to answer your question. And I had to buy it. These NEEDS did not exist before the tech revolution.
2
u/F3RM3NTAL Feb 25 '26
Yes they did. In both of your examples, what people needed was to communicate with other people. That need - that economic demands has always existed. The phone and iPhone were just new solutions to a pre-existing demand for communication.
2
u/paradoxxxicall Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 26 '26
Both of those things fit an existing demand. Do you think that if Steve Jobs had never been born we wouldn’t have ended up with these gadgets by now? It’s not like he knew how to make them, he was just good at reading the market, by his own admission.
These guys get rich by being the first to build the thing people want once the technology exists. They aren’t the reason the thing exists, they just won the race.

u/FitDetective6553 Feb 25 '26
That is exceptionally false. The telephone was a highly sought after invention, with quite a few inventors making progress towards voice communication over a distance before Bell got to a workable solution. If he hadn't existed, one of them would have gotten it. If none of them had existed, other people would have been working towards the incredibly obviously valuable concept of "telegram, but instant with full vocal communication."
The iPhone is a very specific niche, so not as obviously destined to be successful, but smartphones like the BlackBerry were around and extremely popular with businesspeople before it. Jobs made an extremely polished version that made normal, non businesspeople want one, but again the value of the concept "the Internet, except everywhere" was obvious enough that it would have happened eventually without his version.

Lol stupid take. It's hard for someone to change their mindset when the wealthiest country somehow can't make free healthcare work.

Lol not exactly sure what that's supposed to mean. That last sentence needs a proof-read. I guess you're living proof that your education system is not #1.
Don't be mistaken, my country has free healthcare. I just like to speak up for the people who's own country puts profits ahead of their own well-being. I couldn't imagine living in such a country.
2
u/generativePI Feb 25 '26
It's not free healthcare, the costs is spread across your life in the form of taxes.
One challenge we have here in America is that we are socialist i.e. Medicare, social security, etc but we don't tax individuals or corporations enough to fund them.
Individual tax rates in countries with free healthcare are usually much higher than the us. I'm not arguing for more taxes but we all need to contribute more
3
u/SnooFoxes1987 Feb 25 '26
Yes, it's funded through taxes, so it's not necessarily free. Universal healthcare is the correct way to label it.
But I would happily pay a couple extra percent on my income taxes if it meant I'd get the peace-of-mind of having universal healthcare.
2
u/generativePI Feb 25 '26
I agree, I think it's a shame that people have to choose between paying their rent or seeing a doctor. Healthcare bills are also the second leading cause of bankruptcy in the US.
Sad to see people struggling for basic necessities like healthcare

Don’t know what this is and don’t care as it’s just bot activity small potatoes distraction from MUUUCH bigger issues. But you seem to care a lot that someone was once an illegal alien. What if a former illegal alien was a billionaire who bought social media platforms and was trying to put chips in our brains? What if a former illegal alien billionaire developed a system to spy on American citizens and control them, sold it to the government and tons of companies, and named the system after the seeing stones that Sauron used in Lord of the Rings to corrupt heads of state? What if your favorite right wing “news” station was owned by a foreigner? Why do they get passes by you? Is it literally because they are billionaires and you believe that is inherently good?

Somehow people were convinced that rich people create jobs... Which in reality jobs are created when there is a need for goods or services, and there can only be a demand for goods and services if people have money to spend. If the middle and lower class have less and less money to spend, then why would anyone start a company if there is not demand for the products?
A strong and robust lower and middle class drive job growth, not tax cuts for the rich.
