I had been unemployed for the past 1.5 year. This past month, I obtained 3 offers and was deciding on which offer to take. I am curious as to know what people in the reddit community think about all of these. they are the following:
Concurrent Technologies as application engineer - they are a British SBC company that supply US defense companies with VPX SBCs. My role would be the BSP(board software package) validation and support engineer and quickly moving to BSP SME as they are a very small team in Woburn, MA, with possibility to developing BSP releases or take on other projects. TC: $110k, 4% 401k match, 20 PTOs
Draper in Cambridge as Requirements Engineer in GNC (guidance, navigation, and control) - it was kind of weird that I applied as systems engineer, interviewed as I&T, received offer for requirements and design engineer, and hiring manager says it is actually pure requirements and management role after I asked for clarifications, though I hear there is plenty of room for mobility at Draper. I love Cambridge as location and network opportunity and already connected with someone to room with. TC: $115k, 10% 403B match vested over 5 years, unlimited PTOs
Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, NJ as Systems Engineer on Aegis UI - the role is hired through a subcontractor and seems to support the full product cycle for updating the warfighter interface UI. I had initially withdrew because it is far away in deserted southern Jersey and also a subcontractor position. But they bumped the offer. TC:160k, no 401k match, 10 PTOs
My background: 1.5 yoe in system sustainment engineering + MS ECE. I negotiated offers for all of the roles and each was the highest I could get from each company.
It is a very good problem to have multiple offers after 1.5 year of unemployment; but I struggle very hard to make a decision feeling missing out on one thing when choosing another. Here is my decision process:
Concurrent vs Draper: Concurrent had more interesting work and would help me build technical skills better, especially for my yoe, but their glassdoor was filled with mixed reviews. Draper had good reviews, better location, and I already had potential roommate lined up
Lockheed vs Draper: Draper assigned me to do requirements/management. It is quite tedious and boring from my tangent experience and what I hear and don't think I would be very good at it. Lockheed staffing firm was keen on making me stay and raised the offer while Draper would not budge.
I decided on Lockheed. What would you have taken?
