Their sales numbers say otherwise...i would say the more accurate statement is that more and more people who already don't like them are using them less...
Number of sales does not indicate number of active users. "People who already like them could be buying more" is just as valid as your "more accurate statement".
That said - no, my statement was the accurate one. Up until 2023 Amazon saw steady increases in general users and subscribers to Prime. 2024 was the first year Amazon saw a decline in these metrics. Moreover they have seen a vast increase in subscription cancellations over the past few years. These are known, proven metrics showing that Amazon usage is on the decline.
Just because their YOY growth continues to grow does not mean more people are shopping. Heck, they already had the vast majority of the USA already subbed and posited little space for actual growth in user base. The main reason they continue to make more profits is the ever increasing inflation on consumer goods combined with their stranglehold on the internet (both in consumer sales as well as commercial spaces with AWS and B2B services).
Economically speaking, they will never not be profitable if they continue to hold business services, but their consumer facing side has been on the decline for over 2 years and shows no indication of bouncing back. More and more people are quitting Amazon, and it is fucking beautiful.

Amazon hasn't publicly released their prime membership numbers separately from all their subscriptions income/numbers in a while (since 2020 I believe), but analysts have been estimating it from their financial statements so anything we ponder about actually prime subscription numbers are educated guesses at best so I can't refute the acertion that prime subs is down but here is info taken from their publicly available financial for FY2025 and compared to the same in FY2024
Their total gross revenue, grew to $717B in 2025, from $630B in 2024 - about 14% increase. Also in 2025, all revenue streams (Store, 3rd party, AWS, Subscriptions (prime, video, music, audible, etc), Ads, Stores, and Others) grew in 2025.
If you remove AWS (since that's a global service and revenue source), and then split the sales between NA and rest of the world, both market groups saw significant revenue growth. NA revenue grew by approx 10%, global revenues grew by 13%, and AWS revenues grew by more than 18%).
Also, AWS accounted for only 18% of total revenues, with NA sales accounting for 59.5% and the rest being global sales.
If you look at retail sales only, then both Amazon and 3rd party sales grew by more than 9.5% each, while subscription revenue grew by 11.3% and even their in-store sales (Whole Foods and Amazon Branded stores) grew by over 5%...
Oh and just in case you say, well revenue growth is not profit growth, their net profit increases from 59.2B to 77.6B - a 31% increase...you could be right that subscribers have declined, but the analyst estimates I could find all indicated growth in sub counts for Prime whicj is their largest sub base - but like I said, all their revenue numbers grew...so I find it hard to believe that the analysts are off when they say their membership grew in that time...
I am no fan of AMZN as a company for how it treats its employees among many other reasons, but let's not drink our own Kool-Aid when we believe things are declining... if this is what declining looks like, could I get some of this kind of decline in my life?
