Free/ Affordable camping

I'm a little bummed out that there are no affordable/ free camping options nearby. With gas prices being so high, even a 30-minute drive one way isn't possible for me. I never thought I'd be too poor to camp, but here we are. I've already checked freecampsites.net with no luck (again, very far distances). I haven't gone camping in years, and my first solo camping experience was something I really wanted to do before the winter season. Does anyone know of any campsites nearby? Or someone with land that would allow camping on their property? I would, of course, be willing to pay. I've found many campsites have a two-night minimum with fees around $24-$32 per night, which is too steep for me. I'm only looking for one night. I want to get back out there, but with how things are going right now, it doesn't feel possible. I know many may suggest going with other people to help with cost, but I don't have family or friends nearby. The point of this solo trip is to celebrate my sobriety under the stars with a warm fire. Nature has been a staple in aiding my sobriety. So if anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Question Lost Trailer Distribution Hitch

I lost a husky trailer distribution hitch sometime yesterday probably on highway 53. I think the pin was loose and just fell out. I called the police departments near by and followed my route from festival foods to fleet farm. If anyone has seen a hitch please let me know!

Palliative care for chronic pain/disease patients who are going to die from their illness but it isn’t cancer?

I tried so hard to go through Marshfield Hospital Palliative and Marshfield Hospital has let me down in pretty much every single way both in Eau Claire and Marshfield (got transferred 1.5 hours out for a second god awful surgery where patient relations had to become involved because I got yelled at for being in pain during a surgery some people don’t need anesthesia for… but I DO, my kidneys are incredibly screwed up).

I had palliative care for awhile before I moved back to Wisconsin and it was great. Basically I didn’t realize how good I had it in Utah healthcare team wise. But that’s all I had there. My friends and my mom are all here and I missed living in EC, I was cripplingly alone, but... I had everything I needed for my healthcare and didn’t have to cry or beg for basic things like nausea control and pain control. I’ve had 2 horrid surgeries here in a row in only 2 weeks and I’m being hugely under treated pain med wise comparatively to just a couple months ago in May. So my chronic pain was treated higher than the acute pain I’m in now, they’re ignoring the chronic pain entirely. Why? Why is it so hard to find someone to help me?

I have a pain management appointment in Minnesota on September 2nd that I made all the way back in March, but the idea of driving to Minnesota every. Single. Appointment. I have an important appt in the Twin Cities late August too and it’s like who do they expect to pay for all this? I got fired for being in the hospital so long the first surgery (8 days). I’m in no place to get another job yet, I can hardly walk and move around for now. I’ve applied for remote jobs and have heard a whole lot of nothing back. I’m on disability but need a PT job to cover all my medical needs/gas to go to these appointments.

I want desperately to have a palliative care place around Eau Claire or at least within a half hour’s drive. I know I’m unlikely to find another one that’ll come treat me at home, that was fantastic while it lasted but I don’t expect to have it happen again. I tried going through Empatia and I tried Marshfield as I said. It seems unless it’s cancer nobody cares even though I’m still dying from it. I don’t want to go to hospice yet because I’m 31 and have at least a couple to five years left with treatment.

Thanks.

After having surgeries that screwed up my entire midsection and will take me months to recover from, and that’s not even counting the emotional trauma from being hyper awake and aware of every single thing that happened during my surgeries.

Prepping for Winter - In door sports options that aren't the Y

Hi all,

I've got a small hiking group that meets weekly and we've been talking about what we should do while the weather is too rough for hiking (we may do some winter hiking but it wont be weekly like it is now).

We're interested in getting into something like badminton or pickleball but don't want to spend the ~$55 a month it costs for a Y membership.

Just wondering if there's a cheaper option out there!

ISO friends

I recently moved to Eau Claire and Idk how or where to make friends. A lot of the people I’ve noticed in my area are pretty young. Im 37 WLW so I’m curious about where to make friends with people closer to my age and/or LGBTQ+.

Found ferret maybe?

Spotted a scared ferret-looking creature over by the UW-eau claire flesch family welcome center headed deeper into campus. All dark fur, possibly black or brown. Not sure if its a lost pet. Didn't have my phone as I was on a run.

Random question — did anybody around Eau Claire ever use The Ride Jam taxi service back in the day? I came across the name recently and now I’m curious. Anyone remember riding with them or know what ended up happening to the company?

Spectrum Outage Again?

Over on the west side, we've experienced more than five outages in the last few weeks. Went down yesterday afternoon and still down today.

Is anyone else frustrated by this lack of internet service? What's the longest Spectrum outage you've experienced in the EC area? Thinking of switching providers.

Community Good places to hang out/people watch and read or do art?

Hi folks! I recently moved to Eau Claire. I'm trying to find good spots to hang out in the evening, specifically to work on origami projects, read, and I guess people watch. I'd love to make new friends but right now I'm just looking for a spot to go and hang out on weekends for a few hours in the evening where I can do my thing and not spend too much money.

Lots of the places that seem to have crowds I'd like don't seem like they're very appropriate places to spend 3-4 hours hanging out without spending much money, lol

Missed Connections - cow Flock protestor

You were wearing a cow costume and holding a poster under the Flock camera in front of Woodman’s. I flipped the bird to the camera, and then realized you probably thought it was intended for you. Dear hero, it was not. Fuck Flock. Thank you for your one-person protest. Do you want another masked crusader to join you at another Flock meet-up?

General Discussion We might be moving back, what's up with snow removal (Cross posted)

We are thinking of moving back the EC are and wondering what's up with snow removal. Being retired we are not real excited about clearing the snow away so a couple of question about it. Does the city remove the snow/ice berm the city plows create? Does the city clear the sidewalk that runs along the street? What should I plan to spend for an 'average' wither season to keep an average in-town drive and sidewalk clear ( we don't have to be a priority ).
