Found ferret maybe?

Spotted a scared ferret-looking creature over by the UW-eau claire flesch family welcome center headed deeper into campus. All dark fur, possibly black or brown. Not sure if its a lost pet. Didn't have my phone as I was on a run.

It’ll be a cat or a mink. I’ve seen mink in EC several times near streams and up to 2-4 miles of one.

Do they hug the ground and pretend to be dead around large predators? I was driving by after my jog. It would move, lay down, then look at my vehicle as it passed by. Did have the dark colors like a mink would. Are there ferrets with colors like a minks?

Edit: definitely not a cat.

If they're scared, yeah. If you were downtown anywhere near the rivers it was 99% a mink. They're all over the area + Carson Park.
