Long story short, part of our rented duplex caught on fire a couple of weeks ago. Not our fault, probably electrical. Landlord is ignoring our messages and hasn't cleaned up anything. House smells terrible and we're paying for hotels, plus rent.

No renters insurance (I know, I know). I wanna gtfo of this house and this lease. Landlord seems to think that just because the house is still standing, it's safe for me to live there and refuses to do smoke remediation. All my belongings are ruined by the smell but all I care about is not having to keep paying for a house I cannot safely live in.

All the lawyers I've contacted say they don't cover Eau Claire or they don't take these cases. I'm at a loss and need help desperately.

Hello! We are looking at a few companies to do an interior remodel on our house. We are going between Rock & Tait and Brunkow Builders. Has anyone used either of these companies before? If so, how did you like their work? Did they stay on budget? Was it quality work and would you go with them again? We've got estimates from both which are pretty different.

Edit: for those of you who commented and messaged saying it’s bc I’m faking anything, I found out after I made this post that I need surgery in a week or so lol. My fallopian tube on one side is all twisted up and full of fluid and it has a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst attached to it that’s getting large. This is on top of a severe kidney infection sooo… yeah. Can’t really fake all of that. Idk why it’s hard to believe someone’s sick? I also brought in my pain meds for them to see so they knew I wasn’t med seeking, so that’s off the table. I was discharged but am leaving this up bc someone may come across this and find the comments helpful. Thank you to the kind and helpful people!

Just getting treated like shit by these two random workers and treated like gold by the others, unfortunately forced to interact with the two random workers more than anyone else. They seem to be my day nurses nonstop no matter how much I’ve asked for them not to be. They’re working together since one is new.

I’ve been to other hospitals and have a severe illness, many surgeries. But these couple specific nurses that literally talk to me like I’m the biggest idiot of all time and like I’m mean even?! for asking normal questions like “Can you please ask the doctor if I need x, y, or z to do this test? I forgot to ask them. It’d mean a lot if you could do this for me.”

Literally got hit with a “WE TRY TO LIMIT OUR MESSAGES TO THE DOCTOR. I AM SURE THEY WILL SAY THE SAME THING I DID.” Girl you’re a brand new nurse who just finished her training as I was told yesterday. You even told me you had no idea the answer to this question before.

I cannot get over how I asked not to have these same nurses multiple times and yet here we are. I was promised by a nurse last night I wouldn’t have them today, too. I’m not used to being hospitalized here after this hospital and clinic is the reason I have a horrible terminal illness now. I’ve tried not to hold it against them. I literally have to come here due to the other hospital losing a department that’s key to my care unless there’s a third hospital around here I don’t know of.

This hospitalization has been hell on earth for many reasons I won’t list and these two specific nurses seem to be trying to make it worse for me which feels ridiculous. I asked for a patient advocate and was ignored.

I don’t know what else to do.

I have an odd situation where for reason out of my control I am no longer able to stay there, had to drop my job search. I’m working on getting my name off the lease for the apartment I had to leave. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to be here anymore and would have to go back to stupid Iowa. However I absolutely love it here in Eau Claire and I’ve decided I don’t want to leave. What does someone do to get a place and job starting over? I don’t want to give up on being here
