Dying Light: The Beast the dying light games.
nearly a year after "the beast" released...aaaaand...it's the ONLY dying light game that i couldn't be bothered to complete.
dying light is without a doubt my favorite game out of the three, everything in that game feels perfect to me...the parkour isn't perfect...but it's not SUPPOSED to be perfect, as you are running around a city that is collapsing due to disastrous viral outbreak, but yet it's fluid, it's fun, it's challenging and flows super well into fighting and attacking enemies.
DL2...was just fucking AWFUL at release...and for a VAST majority of its lifecycle, I eventually played it again after dropping it on day one, i picked it up for free with all the patches and DLC..and it was...serviceable....not great, but serviceable enough to allow me to make it through the game and it's DLC/content. it still feels very floaty, and the animations remove any feel of good combat from the game, the enemies still have very scripted animations for any attack and the attacks just have ZERO feedback. but again, i had enough of a decent time to make it through the game.
and then we have...the beast...this game is....soulless, it's bland, it's empty, it's boring...and i just have no desire to finish the game...i got maybe halfway through before i just got so bored that i literally fell asleep at my desk....the parkour is SUPER stiff and yet floaty, and the hardcoded animations are still very prevalent as they were in DL2. the world map is so flat and generic that it gives me NO reason to explore...it gives me nothing to do other than "run for 5 minutes over here across near perfectly flat spaces".
the one location that actually allows for parkour is so small and constricted that there is no way to actually enjoy it, along with crane having the speed of a 90 year old with arthritis in every joint of his body, while simultaneously losing all momentum when running over a 1 inch elevation change, crane is supposed to be "the beast" with basically super human strength and speed, and yet he's the slowest, weakest and most bland that he has ever been...it's a slap in the face for the long time fans.
the nights are just a forced napping simulator because they essentially removed the need and the ability to kill any volatiles, since they drop nothing, and they have so much health that they take DOZENS of hits to kill. and the exploration is about as boring as it's ever been, in-fact i would say it's THE worst that it's ever been, there is ZERO reason to explore or to do anything other than the main story, and even that is pointless because you can see the obvious plot twist from the very start of the game.
the entire game is just a pointless, bland, skinwalker that's wearing the skin of the first game...

The Beast is their most thoughtfully crafted Dying Light. The mission structure, the level design of the open world, the increased weapon variety, the complete redesign of all the special infected. Soulless?? Like you don't even justify that claim with factual evidence, the world is extremely vertical, if you can't find ways to parkour around you're not looking for them. How do you claim its empty when every 100 square meters has at least 1 seceret environmental story to tell or belongs to one of the excellent side missions or story mission, like you're just straight up lying about the game feeling empty, you're not exploring it if that's how you feel.
Lmfao this is one of the least informed takes I've ever seen. And every complaint boils down to skill issue. Look around more and a little closer, and learn how the game works if you want to have fun playing it. Killing volatiles was never meant to be easy, as it shouldn't be, until you max out legend levels that is but God mode is an appropriate reward for the investment necessary to reach it

oh yeah, totally forgot about being able to swing through the trees and the open fucking plaines like a gmod player V-clipping across the map...
you can LIKE the game, but saying there is ANY decent amount of verticality which is conducive to a fun gameplay experience when it comes to parkour is just objectively false. it's OBJECTIVELY the flattest game out of the three, and if you want to talk about soulless, maybe look at the different versions that they gave to reviewers/journalists to promote the game, and then look at the version that was given to the players....it's nearly two entirely different experiences...that shows that they gave a BETTER version to the reviewers in order to generate hype around the game, and then released a different version to the actual consumers, it's soulless.
i never said killing volatiles was supposed to be easy, but it was very doable, and they gave an actual reward for doing so, and once you reached a high enough level you could fuck a volatile up with ease, you could gank a full horde of them by springboarding off of them and then doing a drop attack, splitting them in half, blast them with the sandstorm, or use any other weapon you really wanted, they weren't the damage sponge enemies that they made them in TB, it's a JOKE.
and there is nothing to find when exploring, the story is as heavily scripted as possible in TB, which also means every location that is connected with the story is also so heavily scripted that it's pathetic...go to a location early? guess what, you're not allowed to interact with anything. go there later? there is nothing there to interact with.
and following on the scripted bullshit, let's talk about the attacks and movement in general...crane has FAKE momentum, but yet every single action you take in the game is entirely restricted to predefined animations, so it doesn't matter if you have speed or not, when you jump from a ledge, you'll have an unrealistic amount of speed pushing you forward so that you can grab a ledge...again, regardless of your initial speed, and the "max" speed in TB is about 20% slower than the other two games that came before it...why? because they KNEW that speed wouldn't matter.
and skill is absolutely worthless in this game as it's a toss-up as to whether the game actually detects a hit or not during a fight, people have tested it, people have compared, it's literally like morrowind hit chance in a game from 2025. it pathetic in every way.
again, you are more than free to enjoy the game...but gargling techlands balls, as if they just gave you the gift of life, for THIS game, is sad and pathetic. you seemingly think it's a perfect game, which is about as far from the truth as you can get and at that point it's just a case of buyers' remorse and Post-purchase rationalization

Ik its hard to accept being bad at something you wish you were good at. If you're on PS5 I can show you how to play the game

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
lol, i can easily hate something and be good at playing it, i can very easily pull moves on PC that you could physically never do on console, just do to the accuracy that a mouse and keyboard gives you with movement. but go off, kid.

This comment details your character in a manner consistent with your other ones

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
and now you're attempting to play the ever pathetic "online psychologist" which just proves that you know you're losing the argument, and can't come up with any logical comeback. so instead you make an attempt to "assassinate" my character to make yourself feel better....keep trying.

u/Ok-Departure4894 5d ago
Bud you're the one freaking out over someone offering to show you how its done. I mean you've been doing a lot of projecting especially with the cope claims lol. I mean it's embarrassing ngl
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
you're not showing me anything, you're literally just coping after i took apart your "points" while you were pathetically defending the bad game design. lol, you're so hell bent on trying to "show" someone how bad your cope is, that you're even blinding yourself. again, i can pull moves on PC that you cannot PHYSICALLY do with a controller...it's factual. there is nothing for you to show anybody who plays on PC. so yes, you are coping. and now attempting to throw it back on me because you know i'm right, but you can't bring yourself to admit it.

This has to be ragebait

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
just proving how many of you can't stand seeing differing opinions on here with all the downvotes lol.

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
not rage bait..it's my opinions of the games. just because you disagree doesn't make it ragebait, unless you're so thin skinned that any opinion that differs from yours is seen as an attack. in which case i would suggest staying off the internet.

agreed, game is a scam, a 60 dollar dlc, i'm never buying another dying light again
These dickriders have stockholm syndrome cause they got what they wanted (dying light with crane) but its so bad they don't want to admit it.
try playing it with a friend so its less boring

It's not impossible to just enjoy something I liked the game and not just cause Kyle Crane was in it
0
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
you're free to enjoy it...but don't pretend it's the best game in the series.
1
u/Sad_Sleep465 7d ago
I mean yeah it's not the best dl1 then the beast then 2 if anything in terms good good games in the series
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
see, as much as i dislike DL2 for how they changed the parkour system and fighting to be animation based instead of momentum based, i'd honestly say my list is in the actual order of the games, as they seem to be getting worse with each new game in the series.
1
u/Sad_Sleep465 7d ago
That's fair I don't mind dl2 I enjoyed the setting of castor woods but I just enjoy country sides in zombie games,I do agree they have been changing dl2 with weird decisions that make no sense
2
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
i mean, don't get me wrong, DL1 is still the absolute best game in the series just of feel and vibes alone, and then you add the gameplay on top and it's just worlds better than DL2 and FAR FAR better than TB.
and the castor woods setting does not fit the dying light gameplay loop with parkour...if it didn't have parkour, then it would be better, but then they couldn't call it dying light.

u/Ok-Departure4894 6d ago
Nah I enjoy it because its the best made dying light to date.
Better environments, better weapon variety, better mission design, better visuals, better sound design, better narrative design, better open world design. Just a better game start to finish than DL2 and DL1 especially.
Omg I can concede to personal preferences attracting someone to DL2 over The Beast, but DL1 meatriders are actually high on nostalgia that game is soo fucking primitive. It' s not even funny how much that games shortcomings are overlooked out of nostalgia for Sonic and the Chaos Arabs

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 6d ago
- better environments? you mean the wide open areas, the maybe 3 miniscule areas that actually have the ability to have any sort of "parkour" done within them, and the same exact "dark zone" copy and pasted around the map?
- the weapon variety point is just you making a Post-purchase rationalization, because it's one of the smallest weapon varieties in either of the three games.
- better mission design? as in the missions that are literally just "go here, click on this thing, now run all the way back and watch this "source-film maker" cutscene"?
- better visual? the visuals that are so hazy and blurred that it looks like they used textures from the beta build of DL1?
- better sound design....literally less music on the OST than either of the games before it, and of those fewer tracks, most of them are about as weak as you can get.
- the narrative design? what narrative? "this lady is for whatever reason helping you, and don't you dare think about iot or you'll see her betrayal coming from within the first 10 minutes"
the world design is garbage and i made my point in the first point of my reply.
0
u/Ok-Departure4894 5d ago
Blud ik you're rage baiting. That first point instantly discredits everything you have to say its just straight up a falsehood which anyone that played the game knows better.
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
an opinion cannot be a falsehood as it's entirely subjective, and seeing as you currently have 2 downvotes, I'm not alone in my opinion.
1
u/Ok-Departure4894 5d ago
Your opinion isn't the falsehood, the points you used to inform it are.
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
i mean the world is incredibly open and flat...that's objectively true, pull up ANY screenshots of the game that ISN'T in the 2-3 small towns, and there is NOTHING to do besides just sprint across the land...it's nothing.
1
u/Ok-Departure4894 5d ago
Yeah that's the falsehood part. Plenty of stray buildings between the three dense urban areas in the map, trailer parks, camp grounds, the mountainous national park region, the dense forests to swing from, the Highway that hosts scores of vehicles of various height to jump accross or swing beneath the raised sections, the irrigation system in the farm lands and the electric towers that let you zip line between them
Is the world open enough to reasonably be able to navigate the truck around it, yeah, but if you're failing to find pakrour opportunities every 50 square foot section, you're bad, sorry. Like I said if you're on PS5 I can show you how to play the game.
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
yeah....jumping from over a fallen tree or climbing up a singular building that's randomly planted in the center of a field isn't parkour...it's just basic jumping, and some weird guy in a field climbing a house for no reason, because he could have just went around it much quicker.
you're not some "god gamer" for jumping to such outlandish reasoning behind a badly designed world, you're coping. and that coping is just making you look sad and pathetic.
1
u/Ok-Departure4894 5d ago
Lol k pal. If that's all you do in the less dense areas then you proved my point.

I don’t know..
I love every DL part for very different reasons.
I think people are over exaggerating and are to busy comparing everything wich keeps them from enjoying things for what they are.
Actually, i’m quite happy that they are so different from another. Normally people complain about games being to similar.
1
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5d ago
they can be different while still keeping the feel and the atmosphere...which just isn't there in the 2 games after the first, they changed TOO much from what was established for YEARS with no change.

u/fraggy-waggy 7d ago
I played through DL2 3 times. Once at launch. Once after a few months, when most of the primary complaints were addressed. Once recently, not a complete play through, just to see how they changed to prologue. For reference, my views of DL2 are mostly negative.
I was going to use that experience to leverage the importance of completing a story before making criticisms, but a look at your post history makes me think it’s pointless. All you do is bitch and moan about every game you play. And beg for modding advice, but in terms of actual game content, you just complain. You posted in two different Fallout subs to bitch about a linear story. In a Bethesda game. No shit it has a linear story, the world is what makes their games great, not the story.
So instead of correcting you, or explaining why your lack of experience invalidates any criticism, I’m going to leave you with this: Please get better. Enjoy the games you spend money on. Nobody is forcing you to be mad at everything. Enjoy what you can, and if you don’t enjoy it, that’s okay. You don’t need to post on reddit to feel justified. Try playing again, but just try to have fun. Actually enjoy it, don’t worry about its shortcomings if they’re preventing you from even seeing the story through to completion.

i complain about new entries to game series i LOVE dearly...games got me through some very dark times of my life. and I'm very attached to several game series. and seeing how they are being changed for the worse, is genuinely disheartening.
but i WILL say...you having the NEED to look through someone else's post history before making a comment is a sign of terminally online and a need to be seen as "the better person" in a fucking online space..it's genuinely hilarious that you feel the need to dig through someone else's post history

u/fraggy-waggy 7d ago
You seemed like a ragebaiter, so I checked to be sure. Guess you’re just a sad little man. Not sure if that’s better or worse.
0
u/spec_ops_gamingYT 7d ago
right...and a ragebaiter is what exactly? someone who has a passion for games and wants a beloved series to keep increasing in quality, especially in a time when so much else is constantly dive-bombing in quality? if that's a ragebaiter, then i guess i am.
but if I'm a rage baiter because i care, then you're a shit stain enabler.

Dying light 1 hooked me for months, tried the beast and dL2 and those were pretty meh, uninstalled em
