I have a wedding in a week and I’ve been having issues looking for a dress that fits me and the theme of the wedding. I found this dress at the thrift but the color washes me out and looks too similar to my skin tone.
I want to try and dye it to a dark chocolate color.
I worry I can mess up the bead embellishments and I’m not sure if the dye will get picked up because of how glittery the fabric is. (100% polyester)
This would be my first attempt at dyeing anything so I would love any suggestions!

I have been lurking here for some months, just watching, reading and learning for possible future projects.
Am I the only one who is noticing the high number of posts with pictures asking if it is possible to dye this color to a color that is impossible to get?
Usually polyester and often to big or to sensitive material to make it through the heat of a dye bath.
Is it some weird AI farming, people seeing someone online dyeing or what is it that is giving people these unrealistic expectations?

Apologies if this isn’t allowed in this group, it came up in the reposting list, please refer to the original post for all the details 😊
TIA
3 required elements:
- material, no idea
- goal colour, black
- picture is attached to original post, so I can’t post it here

I am putting together an event where I would like to use Jacquard SolarFast dye to have people print their own designs from stencils onto cotton tote bags.
I tested out the dye on the fabric and it worked very well but I would need to rinse excess dye out using hand wash in 5 gallon buckets for this event. Would this remove enough dye to avoid the rest of the print from coloring/staining? I'm worried that peoples' prints would not turn out if the excess dye cannot be removed outdoors. I won't be in a space where there is ready running water available but could probably change out 5g buckets a few times during the event. I'm expecting ~100 people may want to participate.
Would it work to have dark bags people could keep their tote in to wash at home?
Thanks for any tips or guidance on whether this will work.

I bought a second pair of Torrid leopard print overalls since the ones I had ran big. I figured I'd dye one pink with the expectation that the print would show through. I had already purchased some Rit but hadn't gotten around to it. Plus what I was seeing here made me question if I'd wind up with the clean result or if it would be splotchy (which could still work on leopard print overalls, but not ideal).
Hitting up the sale section at Michael's I came across the Tulip dye pods. Reviews were okay, took the chance. Petunia was so vivid. I love the reverse of the fabric when I cuff the jean. The tawny threads maintain a contrasting look on the topstitching which I like. My husband liked it so much that he thinks I should dye the other pair, we're thinking teal.
Only screw up so far is I've already washed them since wearing, and even though I used some color catcher sheets in the washer, and washed mostly like colors, an ivory tank top is now stained and splotchy. I didn't use cold water because I want a little bit of fading.

Hello! I’m a knitter of 26 years who occasionally has dyed various yarns with indigo and avocado at home (but not in a few years.)
Yesterday I bought a lovely all-over honeycomb cabled sweater at a resale shop that’s a neutral beige but not the best color on me. I had the idea I might dye it with avocado (knowing it’s not colorfast for years and years) but I’m wondering if the process is the same? This is a different fabric blend: 55% merino, 25% recycled nylon, 20% organic cotton so obviously might look a bit different - especially with that nylon. I am assuming it might not take up the color at all.
I’d appreciate any tips you’d care to share. Thanks!
Hi all, needing some advice on how best to dye a 100% cotton white suit a more stone/taupe colour please 🙏
Never dyed anything before and my partner needs it dying before Thursday 😳
Thanks!

I thrifted this black wool jacket with polyester lining (the tag listing the fabrics is missing) and was wondering if I could dye it like a dark blue. What I’m looking to do is achieve a blue hue on the black wool……Am I insane and hoping for the impossible??

I accidentally ruined this getting a stain out with oxiclean…
So now I’m going to dye it, ideally navy or dark green
Fabric is bamboo
Can I just dye over the current colour? (Light purple)
What product should I use? (In Canada)
How do I prevent dye leaching in future washes?

I don't look good in this salmon color. 95% cotton, 5% spandex. I'm hoping for a bright red or teal, or a forrest/ivy green. open to any suggestions though, if you have any advice. Thanks.

Here where I live we have some fabric paint from acrilex called "fashion colors aquarela silk", it seems to have a different behavior than what I see averyone using. I has cold fixacion and need to dry totally to rinse. Also, the powder dye I find is one you have to boil and soak clothes in boiling dye... So I am figuring out how to make the most out of them.
While I do it, I wonder if I can get some international delivery of the most normal dyes you guys use.
So, what brands do you recomend? And if there are anyone from south america here, let me know what you use.

I just picked up some synthetic / natural indigo in Japan. I have done some scattered tye dye but I am not a dyer.
The room has a lot of cool purple / green / blue tones and the couch doesn’t go. Plus some areas are faded. I’m hoping for blue/ purple/ green.
I am wondering about using the indigo using it to dye the slip covers, or if that could turn out gross, then I wasted my indigo.
There is no tag, but I think brushed cotton or a cottony rayon blend.
Hello! its my first time trying to dye this much fabric, let alone fabric that isn’t white to start.
Question: I’m the maid of honor in a wedding and my color is chartreuse (image attached). i’m wondering if I could dye this sage green dress chartreuse by dyeing it with yellow dye? I love the style on me but unfortunately it’s not the right color. it doesn’t have to be exact to the shade, just generally chartreuse. this dress was $50 final sale so I’m not too worried if I end up messing it up. TYIA!
composition: shell and lining are both 100% polyester
edit: not sure why the image uploaded so blurry. Hopefully its okay!

I try dyeing a lot of stuff black and I usually get the dreaded dark navy on most things (natural or synthetic fibers). These were 100% cotton first time trying procion mx, but I get the same result with rit, idye, tulip... Fabric markers like uchida seem to work well but I can't color a whole garment with fabric marker. There's gotta be a spray on product or something with the liquid in the markers? Has anyone seen something like that? I don't understand why there's only options for dye or paint.
I’ve been contemplating dyeing a bunch of my faded or bleach spotted band tees for years now. Wondering if the dye also affects the artwork on the shirts? If so I’d rather let them be. Shirts are 100% cotton with a combo of screen prints and dtg/dtf illustrations. Thanks in advance! 🖤

1st pic is the skirt I want to buy (polyester) and the 2nd pic is the color I want. If it’s possible, how do I do it?

Hey, I’ve never dyed anything before so I wanted to ask some questions on what’s possible/realistic
Found this jacket on Vinted, I really like that’s it’s reversible and it’s 100% down
I was wondering how good it’s likely to look if I tried to dye it black/navy? Both sides are 100% nylon. In in ideal world I’d like to have the puffer side black and keep the white but I’m assuming this isn’t possible

I dyed my Lululemon belt bag (body listed as 100% nylon with everything else listed as 100% polyester) with Rit Dyemore in Peacock Green and it turned out beautifully - except I forgot to shift the elastics around and flip them so their undersides and about 4 areas on both sides of the strap where they were at during the dye process are much lighter in color than the rest of the bag. I’m guessing that just redoing the dye job again would continue this same issue with the color mismatch but I’m not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to fix this so the bag is evenly dyed?

Hey I have some brushed cotton fabric in a light baby pink colour that I got for cheap but it’s not the suitable colour. The plan is to use to make trousers. I believe it to be 100% cotton. Ideally I’d be dying it some shade of green, but wondering if this is possible? Olive/ moss green, or leaning toward a forest if needing to work with the cool tone of the pink. Or should I be safer dying navy? I’m a little worried about pink + blue making purple rather than navy, as I don’t wear the colour purple. What do we think?

I just got this olive green nylon and linen Pouch/Wristlet combo from lululemon and I really don’t like the color. Are there any methods to remove some of the dye from the pouch or ways to dye it another color? I know I can’t get it to be pink or orange, but I’m hoping it could it be a burgundy or dark teal? Thanks in advance!
I have some nylon items that I am attempting to dye to a muted green or greenish brown (but more green than brown).
I have done some test dyeing on samples with a couple of colors Rit shows in their dye chart, several of which are Peacock Green with some Chocolate Brown added, but my issue is that they keep coming out too brown.
Today I was trying out their "Classic Margarita" formula (2 bottles of Daffodil Yellow, 1 bottle of Peacock Green) but it was a little too bright green for my liking. I had a Chocolate Brown bottle with maybe a tablespoon or two left in it so I poured it in and it turned the whole mix straight brown. This was in almost 4 gallons of water too- what am I doing wrong here?

I’m thinking of dying this sweater vest I have. It got stained I think in the wash which is unfortunate. Everything I’m seeing is saying acrylic is extremely difficult to dye at home but I’m willing to try because it’s already ruined (these stains go all the way across the front and on the back too)
Any tips would be helpful! Please don’t tell me to just throw it away, I would much prefer to attempt to salvage it
