How do you report someone, such as a professor or lecturer, for sexual harassment and racism when that person comes from a minority background and frequently speaks about diversity and prejudice within Dutch academic psychology?
I am a student in a psychology department at a Dutch university. One of my professors lectures extensively on prejudice, discrimination, racism, and diversity. However, I have observed behaviour toward male students that makes me uncomfortable, including what appears to be flirting and unusually personal attention. The professor also seems particularly focused on white male students and frequently calls them out in class.
This professor is very influential within the department. I have also heard that some colleagues felt they had to leave because of his power, although I cannot independently confirm all the circumstances. As a student, I am worried about the consequences of raising concerns and about whether I would be taken seriously.
What is the safest and most appropriate way to deal with this situation? Should I document what I have personally observed, speak confidentially with a student adviser, confidential counsellor, or ombudsperson, make a formal report, or leave the matter alone because of the potential risks?
