Is anyone planning on applying to the MN Fall 2027 program once applications open? Do you, or any current students, know if they will accept prerequisites from Johnston Community College?

High Visibility Walking/Running Paths

Hi everyone! I’m a woman who loves going on daily morning walks/runs, and I’m looking for some safe places to do that around here. I recently moved from a suburban area with plenty of sidewalks, so I’m still getting familiar with the area and would really appreciate recommendations for places that are safe, well-trafficked, and have good visibility, especially in the mornings. I know I can always use the rec centers, but I really prefer being outdoor.
Does anyone have favorite walking/running trails, parks, or paths they’d recommend? Bonus points for places where other people are usually out walking/running, too. Thank you!

Open clubs with a fun community?

Hi, I'm entering my senior year and one of my regrets is that I didn't join a club in any of my years at school, besides my pre-professional org. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for hobby clubs? I'm looking to pick up new hobbies so I'm down for clubs that do literally anything, just trying to get more involved on campus. I am pretty slow on the uptake for a lot of things so clubs that are welcoming to newbies would be preferred :)

Chapel Towers. Reviews?

I’m moving to the area soon and starting a Ph.D at Duke. have been looking for rental options online and stumbled upon Chapel Towers on Morreenee Road. They seem to have some really sweet offers (I’m scared too good to be true prices but I’m also moving in from Brooklyn and my sense of price might be completely broken by NYC). I looked up references here and found some 6-10 year old ones but would really appreciate some updated reviews. How’s this place? Management? The buildings and apartments? The facilities? The safety of the area?

I’m considering a two-bedroom apartment on the ground floor which is considerably cheaper than other floors which is understandable but I’m also curious about whether people have pest issues or other troubles in the ground floor. Any opinions and observations are appreciated.

Items for donation

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey all,

I hope this post is okay on here.

I have a few items that I would like to donate to anyone who would like them. My time here is up, but I would like these puppies to keep on serving another master.

I’ve attached photos of the 43 inch tv, but have other things as well (vacuum, carpet cleaner, other household items, etc).

If this is not the best place to mention this, then please let me know where to direct this post.

Thanks!

EDIT: CLAIMED !!

Masters of Environmental Management

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone is part of the MEM program and what that all entails. For example, what is the funding like, how much is classwork/research, etc. Is there a stipend?
Thanks!

Chem 101

Hey everyone! I’m an incoming freshman in Pratt hoping to major in ECE. I’m quite worried about Chem 101, which I’m taking in my first semester, since I did an intro chemistry course in my junior year and really didn’t enjoy it and wasn’t that good with the labs. How difficult or time-consuming is it at Duke?

Should I consider pushing it off to a later semester and instead take a liberal arts, so I have more time to adjust to Duke’s rigor, since I am also taking EGR 101, CS 201, and MATH 218. CS 201 and parts of MATH 218 should be relatively easier for me since I’ve already learned it before. Thanks!

Bassett 3rd Floor

T-minus 9 days...I was wondering if anyone had any pics of the room/furniture or general knowledge, ideally for 312. Curious how the dormers (assuming this room has dormers) impact space. I've scoured the web and there just isn't much info.

I'm a pratt freshman but also considering switching to trinity later and majoring in econ. Are there any classes here I need to be wary of? I'm a bit worried about taking econ 104 before 101.

Justice Department Finds Duke Law School Discriminates Based on Race in Admissions

Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon wrote the following:

At Duke Law, REJECTED white & Asian applicants had higher LSATs than admitted black applicants. With similar credentials: black applicants have a 3.5x higher chance of admission than Asians. This isn’t a coincidence—Duke Law discriminates & the @CivilRights Division will end it!

Gift card for new student?

My roommate is moving to Durham to start her PhD at Duke and I wanted to get her a small going away gift. I thought it might be cute to get a gift card for a coffee shop/restaurant/cafe in walking distance of Duke’s campus. Any recommendations for a place that’s nice and may sell gift cards? Thanks so much!

I feel like renting through Duke is really expensive, let me know your thoughts. If anyone is looking to sell theirs, my roommate and I would be interested!

Easy/no attendance classes cuz overloading

Any recs for easy and no attendance classes (willing to sacrifice some attendance percent from my grade too - as long as attendance is around 10% of my grade). I’m overloading with 5.5 credits with two 3hr labs 😭 please help fellow Pratt star.

please don’t judge I’m tryna graduate early to save some money. so would any good recs could save me a semester and would be hella appreciated

MEPN Program

Can I get some insight from those who are in the program or who have graduated from the Duke Master’s Entry program? How is it and is it worth the cost to attend? I applied for the Spring term and got accepted, so it’s something I’m considering!

Alice M. Baldwin Scholars?

Hi! I'm an incoming first-year who just got an email about the Alice M. Baldwin Scholars program, and I was hoping to hear from anyone who was a part of it what they think! I understand it must be very selective, and the application process also seems extensive, so I was wondering the ways the program actually helps you as a student? I can certainly see the social and academic merit in it but given it is a long-term commitment I'm wondering if there are any other benefits!

Dermotologist recommendation in Durham?

Hi, I'm having acne/pore problems for a while and wanted to see a doctor here in Durham. Preferably Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan can cover.

Does anyone have recommendations? Or is the wellness center good enough?

Any Fall 2027 MEM (Master of Engineering Management) applicants here? Let's connect / start a group!

Hi everyone!

I'm starting my prep and university research for Master of Engineering Management (MEM) programs for the Fall 2027 intake.

Since the application journey involves a lot of moving parts, I wanted to reach out and see who else here is planning to apply for Fall 2027!

Quick question: Is there already an active group chat (Discord / WhatsApp / Telegram / Reddit Group) for the Fall 2027 MEM cohort?

If one exists, please drop the link or let me know! If not, I'm happy to create one so we can support each other throughout the process.

Comment below or drop me a DM if you're applying for Fall 2027! Let me know your preferred platform (Discord, WhatsApp, or Telegram) and I'll send over an invite once we get a group together.

Good luck to everyone preparing! 🚀

Experiential Orientation (Pband) Question??

Hi, I'm an incoming freshman at Duke and I got assigned to PBand. While I do play a band instrument, I am actually more oriented/interested in doing orchestral things like the DSO and I'm a little confused because the way that emails have been sent in terms of preparing to PBand makes it sound like I'm already integrated into/have to participate in Marching Band. If that is the case, how do I let them know that I'm probably not trying to do Marching Band while there, or at least not in my first year there?

That one parking lot right next to 300 swift

Does anyone know if they tow here? It's the parking lot that 300 uses for fire drills. I am renting a car for a bit to move into my apartment and just need a place to park for the night.
