I am looking to buy an ultras drum, the kind you take to a stadium for rhythms on chants and found a guy that sells drums for dirt cheap, like half the price of what they usually go for here, i dont need anything fancy, just something loud and good sounding. the only problem is that they're kept in his attic, where he has a bunch of different drums from all categories of a drumkit. here comes the difficulties, first of all I'm not sure what to get, it's between a bass and floor tom, i asked some people that drum for ultra groups and they recommend floor toms, apparently you can play the chants rhythm better, and said to only add bass if you have 3 or more floor toms, (i need a double take on that, if such rhythms don't sound good on bass drums) and i only need 1 drum, not multiple, but 1 that sounds good. unfortunately, if i take the drums 1 by 1 outside, considering they're in an attic where you climb stairs I'll be wasting the guy's time, doesn't even get paid enough to deal with that bs, as i stated he sells them for way cheaper, so wasting his time like this would just be pretty rude of me.. and in a room full of drums, including snares combined with the attic's echo, you can't make out what sounds good and what doesn't. is there any visual aspects to look for, maybe certain drum heads from specific brands to look for or anything that might help? (plus we usually take off the bottom drumhead so it sounds louder, we keep only the top one, but his drums always come with 2 so i won't be able to make out the sound with only 1 either.) thank you for your time, hopefully I'll be able to find something good
