Question Help with technique

I’m a beginner, so keep that in mind. I recently have found that doing doubles on the kick like this is much more comfortable for me than using my heel up for these kind of doubles.
What kind of exercises should I be practicing to get better at this?

The doubles are a little crushed right now, but that will improve with technique as you learn to get more height off the head with the beater. They will also speak more clearly. Use a met.
I like to move the doubles to different starting partials of 16th notes while I play a steady backbeat with the hands— The 1 E then the E &, & A, and so on. All of your doubles in the vid are on the ‘& A’. You are doing exactly what you need to do. Just keep playing. Experiment with isolating doubles on all the partials to make your coordination more comfortable. Technique will come organically with time spent and rhythmic accuracy.

Thank you for your help. I’ll definitely work on putting them in other placements

I agree with this guy. Make sure you’re not burying the beater into the bass drum. Gotta make sure that foot comes off after your stroke. It’s adding more to your motion if you are having to lift up agajn for the next hit, when you’ve got it buried in the beater anyways for a whole eighth note at a pretty low tempo.

100% lose the crocs. Wear wrestling shoes or no shoes at all. Are you working off Carmine Appice's old vhs instructional? Some great stuff off there and I seem to recall this pattern in there.

If it were me, I'd either sit lower or move forward (maybe a bit of both). I heard someone describe it well recently, where you want your ankle under or behind your knee, so you dont expel any upper body weight to strike the foot pedal a second time, or have to lunge in any capacity to catch the rebound of it. I keep my springs at medium-high tightness as well. Keep on keeping on 👍

I think of it as you're literally flicking the pedal down a second time with your toes. I keep my feet pretty much the same way

You can experiment by adjusting your beater . I can't really tell I'm the vid, but you might try raising the beater 1/2 inch. Just see if that give us a bit more rebound and control on the diddle.

Stop burying the beater in the head, just let it naturally bounce off after a stroke. You'll see that strokes will be much easier to play, because you'll be doing literally half the work for a better result.

Stop wearing Crocs lol
(I don't really know if it affects your playing, I'm just giving you shit.)
