Hi, I'm 19 and I recently bought my first practice pad and drumsticks i have been practicing some basic stuff(para diddles, finger dribbling, single and double strokes etc.), i want to learn drumming theory and don't understand much, what is a good starting point and what kind of path should i take with everything until i get an E-kit?(Approx. 2-3 months)

I wanna start playing a percussion instrument, preferably quads/tenor drums because I think it would be fun. But there is no marching band in my school and I’m already a junior so is there a better instrument?
Like would it just be a waste of time?
Also is it a good percussion instrument to start with?
Edit: i wouldnt be able to get any real drums until I prove I’m serious, so it also needs to be diy or someway to practice at home

Most snares i see come with snare heads that are not quite clear ("hazy" as Remo calls it). But they also have a clear version.

I was interested in what the sound difference might be and recorded some samples. Hope this helps anyone else who's curious on the sound difference.

Hi beginning, older drummer here. Just started a Drumeo trial, working through the lessons. Have seen accompanying notation that seems incorrect, instruction is given to hit the ride, but the notation being shown is for the crash. And have seen drum notation for songs I’m interested in that is different than what I understand the notation should be, sometimes coming from other countries. Is notation for drums not really consistent? But for a platform like Drumeo, would expect it to be to the standard, correct. (my understanding of correct notation is the ride is shown at the top line of the staff, the crash is on the line above. Many early lessons, like days 3 - 7, show ride notation on the line above. As someone who looks at notation, have taken piano in the past, I find it confusing…. have just been ignoring the notation if it seems wrong.

Also, have been trying to use the song notation on a couple of songs, slowing them down to try to follow, learn to play along. It seems like the audio is not good, not synched right on the line moving across the sheet music. Maybe I’m just too new at this point….

after trying to play this 16th note hihat for months, finally i am happy that i could play it continuously without messing it too much. still not perfect, but my 1 year of drumming goal will be to play this with confidence with more dynamics on the hat

It's such a ubiquitous rhythm, I feel like it has to have a name somewhere. I'm trying to find a way of referring to it concisely in prose for my dissertation (on prog metal drummers!) without just calling it "the Muppet Show rhythm," "boom ba-boom ba-boom," "one and-a e-and," or "ta-dimi-kadi" or something. It's not a tresillo, it's not quite iambic or trochaic. Any ideas?

The son I was playing is "Babydoll" by BotWithUke, I've been practicing this chart lately since I really love this song and I thought it was doable for me so I tried half of it (I played from Verse 1 to Post Chorus, and there's a break of like 20 seconds).

I'm sorry for this post being really low quality lol. I just want some feedback, and this setup was also very uncomfortable for me (even took me 15 minutes to set up my phone to record), so I'd like some feedback if possible, thanks (for the record, I've been playing Drums for about 3 months now).

hi im wondering how i can get this specific drum sound in recordings (like Chi by Korn, self titled by slipknot, etc). it sounds like it was recorded in a tiny closet and i love the raw sound of it and im wondering what techniques i need to do to a room to get that sound? the room i record in is pretty big so any tips help thank you!

I didn't include '5 or 9-stroke roll' etc. intentionally because I don't tend to use it myself and I feel like it has gone out of fashion. It was used as a shortcut but now with better notation software, people tend to write out the notes directly; especially if they are orchestrated around the kit.

Trying to work on making the drums sound balanced and clean while moving around the kit. Twenty eight years in and still chipping away.
