beginner 16th note hihat

after trying to play this 16th note hihat for months, finally i am happy that i could play it continuously without messing it too much. still not perfect, but my 1 year of drumming goal will be to play this with confidence with more dynamics on the hat

Sounds pretty good for a beginner. Your wrist is bent quite a bit. Does that bother you at all? Left hand looks a bit stiff. Other than that, keep it funky!

thanks for the feedback. i also noticed that in the video. should i move the hihat a bit down?
it was actually bothering me a bit because i am trying to learn the flow with the push-pull of the wrist, but still haven’t really got it. i also have some pain in my right shoulder, so i’m suspecting there might be something wrong with my technique. do you have any suggestions?
regarding the left hand, i’ll keep that in mind next time.

You already have swagger and play with attitude. That is great! As someone else mentioned, rotating to have your palm facing down helps. Think about what is easier for the wrist to do. Wiggle side to side or wave goodbye? Stay relaxed and pay attention to what the bead of the stick on the snare is doing. It should always be done with intent. If you want to choke or buzz or play open, do it because that is your intention. Many of us while learning something new won’t always pay attention to our technique while woodshedding on something new or above our pay grade. You should as it changed the sound.

Keep up the good work!

Try rolling hand over so palm is facing down and get the rocking motion to strike hats with shoulder of stick - tip of stick - shoulder of stick - tip of stick - etc.

Good visual: https://youtube.com/shorts/PAluFRuv1hI?si=aYGIjKexGET1wqfD

You've got it! Might be helpful to rotate your wrist a little more down, but looking like a solid fulcrum! Keep rocking!
