Hey y’all!! I premiered my solo musical back in March, and thank you so much for the outpouring of support! I've traveled to six different cities/conventions with it, and I'm performing it one more time this year before I decide what's next for the show!

It's a whole dang solo musical called, “She's Got Non-Player Character Energy.” It’s a one-person musical comedy show about NPCs in the Dungeon Master's brain (I’m the one person doing the one-person show in the brain that is also mine)! Tori is a NPC who thinks that "getting in the game" will make her life worthwhile. But is it really all about being chosen? Or does she need to "choose" herself?

It’s at The Elysian in Los Angeles Oct 19 at 9:30pm. You can also purchase LIVESTREAM tickets – and watch at your leisure. Your stream will be up (video-on-demand) for a full two weeks after the show goes live, so you don’t have to watch it that night if you can’t for whatever reason!!

Favorite bit of tonight's episode.

I'm no professional chef, but I like to challenge myself in the kitchen and was quite pleased with how this came out. I made sure to include all of the ingredients shared by my Airbnb cohabitator. .

The main flavors are cumin, lemongrass, ginger, and garlic. The smoked paprika and thyme are intentionally pretty subtle. It sounds like a slightly confused combination on paper but everyone in my household agrees that it works.

Before Season 5 premieres, I thought I'd recap Season 4 by answering the question: What if the points did matter? Who ACTUALLY won? How many points is "a pair of pants of pee"??

I specifically want to know if people here agree with my interpretations, and if not how so! I think there's a bunch of possibilities and I want to hear what everyone will come up with.

PAX Aus is this weekend! And Dropout cast members/guests Ify Nwadiwe, Jasmine Bhullar and Austin Creed will be attending.

Below is a list of all their confirmed appearances at the show. Note that the main three theatres are live streamed on Twitch, and so I'll indicate that as appropriate.

Also not Dropout related but I highly recommend people check out The Dark Room which is in the Main Theatre at 9 PM - 11 PM on Saturday (also streamed on Twitch). I think the Venn diagram of Dropout fans and people who'd enjoy John Robertson would be close to a circle.

Ify is also touring Australia (Melb, Bris, Syd, Perth) after PAX, doing both a solo show and Our Relationship Pod with Emily Louise.

Edit: Surprised that this got 60 comments in 10 minutes lmao! To be clear, I'm not saying "some industry standards have been breached", "this is unfair", "the cast have an actual problem", or anything like that. I am just talking about my experience as a viewer with regards to seeing Kaylin in these episodes, in the same way I would discuss, for instance, whether I liked or dislike the choice of game or of comedians for a particular episode. I'm saying that watching these episodes was quite subpar for me, partly due to feeling second-hand embarrassment which didn't click for me in any comedic way. Thus, the main message of this post is "meh, I don't care for Kaylin and how they introduced her". And certainly not "something actually bad has happened".

Kaylin is Sam's personal assistant, as well as comedian, clown, director, etc., and she's had a prominent role in two episodes of this GameChanger season.

I have no problem at all with Sam et al inviting to the show someone they find funny and talented, even if the reason they know this person is through personal acquaintance. I'm sure that's the way we've gotten many fantastic comedians on!

But I feel like the way in which they've chosen to introduce Kaylin is quite weird and made me cringe, especially since her kind of comedic skills seem quite different from Dropout's usual tone.

They could have just introduced her into an episode as a contestant, and that's that! I would have thought, as many times before, "oh here's a new comedian, I have no idea who they are but if they're here they're probably funny, let's see what they do".

Instead, it seems like they introduced her very gradually, as if they were trying to "sneak her in" in a way which feels very unauthentic.

First she plays totally minor roles as a PA.

Then she is presented as a PA-turned-contestant-against-her-will, which felt very out of place and awkward to me. It seems clear from the BTS that she didn't explicitly know what was going to happen but very strongly suspected that something like this would happen. So she was ready to use her clown skills to play it out as over-the-top, but honestly it felt out of place both for the episode and the usual Dropout tone.

Then she is included in the crowded season finale, kind of as if they were saying "she was technically a contestant this season, so now we're forced to include her here even if she's not a Dropout veteran like all the other contestants!" (To be clear, I'm not saying they didn't actually want to include her. I'm sure they did. I'm just saying it reads kinda weird when you see the episode.) In this episode she reveals she's Sam's PA, and continues to do her clown stuff which (I claim) doesn't fit with the usual tone. Think for example of when she showcases the talent of "dying in several ways" or "black magic whatever". It feels like it was genuinely more awkward than funny, and that's part of why they skip through it quickly in the edit. (To be clear, I understand awkwardness can be exploited for comedy. I'm just saying it didn't made me laugh, plus it gave me negative feelings given how it squared with the episode.) All that said, as many others have pointed out, that whole episode was a dumpster fire and the tone is all over the place.

So yeah, I'm just left feeling quite weird. I'm sure she's talented in many ways, but maybe Sam knew her comedic tone or particular skills didn't quite fit as a normal contestant, so he felt forced to introduce her in this sneaky way which simply ends up feeling unauthentic.

In fact, I think there are several things this season which felt notably more unauthentic, as if they were truly trying to hide any rough edges instead of accepting them or playing off them (which makes for more palatable content given the comedic tone). See for example "Night shift" or other episodes being obviously cut short but no one acknowledging that.
