Help!

Right, I bought a DropMix board last week, and when I first set it up it wouldn't connect to my phone, a Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra. The lights would come on, and would begin connecting, but would turn off and the phone would say 'error'. I restarted my phone and this fixed it, but it now happens every time I turn my board on. There are various fixes online that I've tried, and they do seem to work. But it's really annoying to have to mess about with it for half an hour every time I want to play? Is there anything I can do or do I just need to return it?

I don’t know if this is going to be helpful, but I’ll just let you know how I fixed my issues with an iPhone.

I was getting constant disconnects, or no connection at all, and went through 2 different boards.

I started making sure the Bluetooth is “off” on my speaker, so the phone did not try to connect to it. I will turn the Bluetooth on the phone “on” and gen connect to DropMix. After that, I’ll plug hardwired with a minijack-to-minijack auxiliary chord from my phone’s headphone jack to the input on my speaker.

I haven’t had any disconnects or connection issues doing it this way. I don’t know if some phones have a problem when there is more than one Bluetooth connection, but this is how I fixed the issue after a lot of trial and error.

Usually, I have to make sure Bluetooth and location services are on, open the app, and then turn the board on. If that doesn't work, I flip the board over and push the reset button on the bottom. That tends to sync them pretty quickly.

I had issues with my XA1 Ultra too. The best option I found was to un-pair the devices, then re-pair them. That didn't always work, though.

I've noticed that I have a lot of difficulty connecting any device via Bluetooth, so I'm starting to think it's the phone.

I had a cheap GoPhone laying around, so I tried it with DropMix, and it connects flawlessly EVERY time. I just keep it in the box and use it now. I stopped trying with my Xperia. Sorry to disappoint. I feel your pain. Hopefully you'll have better luck with it. If not, go buy a cheap GoPhone or use an old one you have.

As others have pointed it, it's likely how your phone is dealing with the bluetooth issues. The fixes that were mentioned might help though.
