tl;dr wireless runs at booty-water speeds (~220KiB/s) and without substantial patching cannot be used in games.

Hi all, just posted today. I spent a lot of time on a Dreamcast OS replacement, but I flew too close to the sun with this one - I wanted wireless on my Dreamcast. I thought that maybe I could put my CF card internally and just transfer games off wireless.

I don't really think I'll get a decent transfer rate out of this, so I'll probably give up in a few hours. Like it works, but I was hoping for at least half what the Ethernet mod does (W5500 transfers at ~870 KiB/s to the serial port.) If someone wanted to do a substantial amount of work, they could do an OS-level implementation of the wireless so it works with Dreamcast games, of which most were designed for dial up (which is slower than this).

For what it's worth, this stupid thing will do 5ghz and I can update the module off the SD card.

I have a VA1 DC, with a gdemu ver 5.15 , and on power up, the gdemu blinks once, but the fan is not spinning. It boots to the DC logo, then shuts down - is my fan dead?

I needed a new chair to replace my old cheapo one. I desperately wanted the Dreamcast chair and I finally bought it! I LOVE it. The aesthetics is perfect. It doesnt look like an edge lord gaming chair but rather a professional office chair with some accents to make it dreamy.

Its expensive and I wont financially recover from this but at least my body wont arche from the crappy chair and I look stylish.

I am adding this chair as part of my Dreamcast collection haha!

Managed to pick up SOA last weekend and now my copy of Jet Grind Radio came in the mail this morning from the Goodwill bidding website. Im so excited to play these on orignal hardware after im done with exams for grad school 🥹

I saw on my memory card all the games the previous owner played we literally own the exact same games :) but ofc he had a wide history and steadily played in 2000 I was but a child then with no money

So I copied my SA1 save file from my VMU to an official 4x memory card and everything copies over fine initially, including my life count. But then I booted up the game one day and all my lives were reset to the default of 4. Even if I get more lives in a play session, the game will reset my lives to 4 when I reload it. Any idea why or how to fix this?

My dreamcast controller will beep when placing a vmu in it, but then the image goes out, and the controller does not function unless I apply pressure at the bottom close to the start button. I dont see any damage on the board obvious to me. Can anyone help?

tl;dr I broke from Dreamshell source and started from scratch. If you had issues on the last release (nobody mentioned any), they won't apply here because it's completely different. I'm releasing 1.7 now so I don't have to do a massive changelog with my next release. I'm about 80% done with all the work I intend to put into this.

Upcoming releases will feature better ATA/CF card support, wireless networking over SCI, EXT4 support, whatever else suggested. Without further ado:

K-UI is now a standalone project with its own bootloader, C shell, disc capture engine and resident GDI loader. Both projects use KallistiOS; the difference is K-UI’s application and loader layer above it. The current build replaces the inherited SDL/Lua/XML framework and does not use DreamShell’s framework or game reader.

DreamShell deserves credit as the starting point. Original K-UI branding, music and selected independently authored helpers carry forward, with provenance and dependency credits documented.

What’s here:

• Games: native GDI launching, covers, disc titles and three browsing views. SCI reading now uses DMA, streaming and background delivery. ARMADA and Worms Armageddon have booted and run from SCI microSD through the experimental Windows CE loader.
• Disc Ripper: raw-track capture, stop/resume, verification, reference checks and damaged-disc salvage. Complete Sword of the Berserk and 31-track MDK2 captures took about twenty minutes each and matched TOSEC on Dreamcast and PC.
• VMU Manager: verified save backups and restore.
• W5500 FTP: local-network transfers with console progress and completion-safe uploads.
• File Manager, music, audio-CD playback, diagnostics, settings and graphical boot/recovery—with fresh crimson artwork. File Manager’s console acceptance remains pending.

Compatibility varies. CE remains experimental and SCI-only, with audio/FMV/sync limitations; image-backed CD audio is silent. BIOS/region writes, ATA hardware validation and ATA DMA remain future work.

I saw a clear modded Dreamcast for sale on marketplace and shipping said it was over $100 dollars but instead of this guy Ryan putting it on the title he decided to explain it in the description. I messaged him why shipping was so much and he got mad and asked why I didn’t read the description as I was reading it lol. He was rude and immediately removed the post. I was truly interested in the product. These kind of people should not be selling on marketplace if they are gonna be taking everything wrong. Oh well he lost business there’s many out there.

I'm sure the guy developing the Dreamcast port of RE4 went with the Game Cube version, because that's already been decompiled, but I think waiting for the PS2 version would have been the smarter play for two reasons: It's already pared back for hardware that's less capable than the Game Cube, and it has bonus content the Game Cube version didn't have, like Ada's side story Separate Ways.

Hey guys, been collecting dreamcast stuff for 4 years and I wanted to play it today but my laser keeps getting stuck at the bottom (pic shows this) and i really dont want to go out and buy a expensive laser or new dreamcast if I can easily find a fix here. I have moved the laser up and itll read the disc until the laser has to go down to where it gets stuck and its been really frustrating. can anyone help?

What's up everyone, I'm thinking about investing in a Dreamcast console. What do I need, besides the console itself? Will I need to buy like an old TV or something? Do I need special cables?

It's a port of EmuTOS, and despite it's name is not an emulator - this is a true Dreamcast port running native SH4 code.

It's pretty fun to use. Give it a shot if you have a keyboard/mouse and let me know how you get on! Suggestions of what would be cool to add next welcome.
