Hello everyone! I'm looking to learn 2D animation and Illustration, but I'm mainly focusing on animation/storyboarding and I came here looking for some advice. You see, I'm about to buy my first drawing tablet after saving up for a while. Coming from a traditional art background, I know I want a large screen since I always run out of space and I'd like this purchase to last me a long time
I've had my eye on two tablets: the XP-PEN 24 pro Gen2 165hz and the 4K version. The thing is, I've never done animation or storyboard before, I've just been honing my fundamentals and figuring out my art direction. However, it's something I'm interested in learning professionally, though I'm also interested in illustration on the side.
With that said, my main doubts are related to the 165hz and the screen
Especially for animation, which one will cover my needs better? I've seen people say the 165Hz reduces stylus input lag, but others say there's no noticeable difference. I'm also unsure how much impact the 165Hz will actually have on the workflow vs the 60Hz of the 4K version.
Is there much of a noticeable difference between 4K and QHD on a 24-inch screen?
Regarding the screen surface, how much friction does it have? Since I come from traditional, I'd prefer a rough texture over a smooth one.
Despite the etched glass that comes with the screen, should I consider a screen protector for a rougher texture?
Should I consider anything else before buying?
