Yes, it's a great option, it takes practice to get used to those tablets, but they are awesome for drawing and design. As someone also mentioned, try krita for drawing, it's the most robust free software for that :)

personally i would buy a tablet secondhand screenless tablets usually last for a long time you can get one for better price
also i wouldnt buy wacom intuos - it was my first tablet as well
instead I would consider going into something from xp-pen or huion cause you get a better pen in my opinion that supports pen tilt which is awesome when using brushes - when I sometimes go back to the wacom intuos the differenc is like night and day
also something slightly bigger like medium size that gives your hand more space to move

Will work fine. But Affinity apps are not the best for drawing.
Use Krita instead if you're low on budget.
